The merit of Sonic Mania soundtrack is that even when its mostly remixes they pretty much sound way better that the originals and any remix Sega has done over the years.
Plus not all of them are remixes but they have samples of other sonic themes

I strongly disagree. It was a self-contained arc done well. It didn't try to be what it wasnt and the music was catchy. The ship had more forgettable themes, and rivers in the desert was not really that great. I can't understand what people found in it. The first half without lyrics felt flat and the second one was not that great. Really preferred Yaladabaoth's theme over it.
