>Meet Jerome Durain, a French senator who wrote to the Autorité de Régulation des Jeux en Ligne (Or Regulators of Online Games). The letter to the agency opens by praising video games and esports in particular for helping contribute to the cultural and economic growth of entertainment in France.
>Despite all of the positives, Durain pointed out in his letter posted on Twitter that the video game world is constantly evolving, with one potential area of concern being the growing trend of loot boxes and microtransactions, as most recently brought to the forefront by Star Wars: Battlefront II.
>He also is an advocate to the solution I proposed in regards to Loot Boxes a few days ago. He doesn’t see an issue with having Loot Boxes that contain purely cosmetic items (Like in Overwatch). But he also sees that Battlefront II‘s loot boxes could be seen as a form of gambling, with the suggestion being that if they are, some amount of consumer protection may be advisable.
>Durain said he also spoke with other key parties in France about this, including the country’s Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, video game consumer and developer bodies, and eSports organizations. With all of their input considered, Durain said he’s confident France can make progress towards action.
>EA is the one to instigate the downfall of loot boxes
God damn, maybe Disney giving them the Star Wars IP has helped.
Camden Cox
>des Jeux en Ligne those damn French and their refusal of English words
Camden Edwards
Oh boy, I wanna know what's happening at EA right now and hiw much Disney must be shitting on their roof right now.
Jackson Ross
>not calling your PC ordinateur

Kayden Garcia
>muh globalism dictatorship fantasies. Just nuke those racists already!
Caleb Lopez
At least DLC is not mental illness gambling.
Lucas Bailey
What's wrong rosbif, did those mean foreign words trigger you?
Jeremiah Roberts
The lootcrate progression system and P2W sucks ass, but this whole EA dogpile has just devolved into blatant anti-corporatism virtue signaling. Very few of you I doubt have even played the game, and are just hive minders looking for upboats.
With that said the game sucks, EA sucks, and so does Disney, but you're only "enraged" because you got your rocks off thinking you made a difference and took down "the man." You dont actually give a shit about the immorallity of P2W.
Brayden Hernandez
>He doesn't see an issue with having Loot Boxes that contain purely cosmetic items NOOOOO Sup Forums TOLD ME THEY WOULDN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE THAT THEY WOULD PUT THEM ALL IN THE SAME BAG THIS ISN'T GOING AS PLANNED ESCAPE ESCAPE DELETE AAAAAAAANOOOOOO
Samuel Smith
>yfw some are actually cheering BIG GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION in video games
Lucas Carter
I give a shit because the "man" that killed all my favorite video game studios is finally getting under. Anyone defending EA is just an EA shill, and if you're not then why are you shilling for EA for FREE?
Gabriel James

GOOD GOY, RESIST THE GOVERNMENT, BREAK THE LAW
Zachary Thompson
vices need to be controlled. especially when they're targeted at children
Xavier Reed
I would have been happier if the publishers restrained themselves but if they aren't going to then something is going to break, isn't it? They went too far.
Lincoln Perez

Well if Publishers had restrained themselves this wouldn't have happened.

Dominic Nelson
How pissed must Disney be?
Caleb Myers
>I would have been happier if the publishers restrained themselves but if they aren't going to then something is going to break, isn't it? >They went too far.
This is argument could be used for > sex in games > violence in games > gambling in games
Basically a repackage of the old "games need to be regulated" spiel of the 80s and 90s
Hudson Rogers
The entire planet will soon want lootboxes removed, any lootbox apologists should be incinerated.
William Peterson
Hawaii is part of America retard.
Jacob Walker
>Hawaii >Country
Charles Barnes
>Hawaii is a country

>sex in games is rated by ESRB >violence in games is rated by ESRB >(fake) gambling in games is rated by ESRB

Liam Murphy
Okay, Four Countries and one US state. Happy now choir pedantic?
Mason Morales
Because the people cheering that aren't people. It's the Russians again with their propaganda tricks. The more they force an opinion, the more retards jump on the bandwagon. Worked for Trump.
The goal is the untraceable destabilization of America and its working.
Eli Fisher
Good goy.
Tyler Hill
>vices need to be controlled. especially when they're targeted at children
A similar argument was made by mom's who couldn't say no when their children wanted the McDonald's toy
>McDonald's should stop putting Happy Meal Toys in food so that our children will not ask us to buy them
Alexander Reed
So let's say Disney take EA license for starwars,to whom should he give it? rockstar,cd projekt, ubisoft etc?
Nathaniel Stewart
Post yfw reddit made gaming great again
Ryan Morgan
If they remove loot boxes. That would be a step in the right direction. None of the games I play have loot box systems, but already know it'll improve my games for the future if they are demonized now more than ever.
Evan Diaz
Activision, duh.
Nolan Myers
Good goy.
Michael Evans
Disney has to be phenominally pissed off.
I wonder if they will actually pull the gsme after this. It is just about the only way to save face atm.
Christopher White
What would be wrong with removing happy meal toys, exactly?
Lucas Powell
>FUCK THE LAW FUCK DRUMPFS like a clockwork
Hudson Perry
Kind of sucks they get the credit for this one. At least Sup Forums has GamerGate. This site is ripe with shills anyway.
Owen Young
You forget that lootboxes feature the use of real life dollarydoos or yuropeuros. Lootbox trash isn't comparable to playing roulette or cards inside a video game world with videogane money.
Your sex in video games is also pretty fucking stupid. It would make sense if a video game only lets you fuck after you deposit one shekel and then you don't even know who you're gonna fuck or if the game lets you fuck at all due to RNG.
John Nelson
>pay for a car >get a steering wheel instead
FUCK THE GOVERNMENT! BUY MORE EA GAMES
Landon Brown
>EA/Activision games. >Make a couple cosmetics, >Stuff them in random boxes >Charge retarded amounts for said boxes >Most of the time you get random buffs and shit from boxes with zero value or meaning >Stop supporting game after a year or two >REEE WE NEED THIS TO STAY AFLOAT
>Digital Extremes >Make a crapton of cosmetics on a monthly basis >Sell them ala carte >Each skin and item has a set price that can be purchased directly >Game is 5 years old now and going strong >Offers community a chance to create their own skins that will earn them a portion of the profit when sold >Game still going strong and constantly getting new features
Loot boxes are not a good thing, they're just the highest profit to effort ratio companies can get away with, if they were legally allowed to set the chance of premium items to 0% but still advertise them as possible drops, they would. After all, why would you make 1000 skins selling them for $10 a piece, when you can just make 10 skins and stick them in $2 blind boxes that have 1:500 chance of dropping them.
Lucas Phillips
>tfw you're not anthony burch, Randy pitchford, maddox, or anyone from EA. It just keeps getting better.
Jace Phillips
HEAVY IRON Here are their qualifications: They made this kino.
Zachary Perry
Like the french getting triggered by the mean foreign words themselves?
Adam Gray
They're unironical jews and/or shills.
John White
you know what you're getting with a happy meals toy (assuming you ask them for the specific one you want; they'll do that). its like paying for a virtual hat and not at all related to the gambling discussion
Bentley Hall
Exactly. Why the fuck do I have the obligation to buy a cheap plastic chink toy to my children? Toy which they will destroy in the span of a few minutes?
Fuck off, kids. Go get a job, you subhuman mini NEETs.
Xavier Harris
From software
Jason Hill
IMO this could be the biggest thing im gaming sice the creation of the ESRB.
This just shows that the industry cant self regulate itself and that the government is right to move in.
Brayden Johnson
>Lootboxes are banned worldwide >Suddenly Overwatch loses all of its profitability >They HAVE to pump out a sequel to make ends meet >No one buys it because Overwatch is old news and was never fun >People play Splatoon 2 instead
Overwatch is Splatoon's Battleborn.
Aaron Nelson
Reminder that the ESRB came because parents screeched about pixels and fictional violence in games
Isaiah Wood
Soyboy kill thy self.

4 faggot countries with faggot politicians want those sweet loot box taxes so they can give it to the rapefugees that vote for them and buy themselves a fancy dinner of frog legs and pizzas with walnut sauce
John Adams
>Worked for Trump. Yeah! It's not like Americans are a pack of racists with a police force that has declared Open Season on black people for years, who saw a presidential candidate saying obnoxious things that struck a chord with them, while the other side of the argument were actively flag burning and bragging about the impending doom of white America which drove even more people into Trumps corner.
No, it was those GOD DANG COMMIE RUSKIES!
Austin Ramirez
Midway with Mortal Kombat single handedly started the rise of concern for violence in games and Howard Lincoln FROM NINTENDO is why we have the ESRB now.
So hey if Midway didnt push violence so hard then nobody would have bothered. Same situation as EA pushing loot boxes.
William Johnson
Yes. The ESRB was the industry's way of saying "We aren't selling these objectionable games to children." And for the most part that's what it was.
Flash forward to today where EA is selling what appears to be a Star Wars themed casino to children and the ESRB's official response is "We don't see this as a problem" This is why government has to get involved.
Caleb Phillips
>help me gubment I can't stop buying loot boxes!!!
Lmfao fucking pussy. Never mind soyboy you literally are a steaming helping of edamame
Nicholas Bell
It's about > regulating vices
Parents are the one's who should tell children not to buy loot boxes: the same way parents should tell children "tough luck no toy"
Getting the govt into stuff usually ends up messy
Asher Robinson
Let them have it. I want them to be a containment site for all the retards rather than a gateway for them.
Ethan Davis
>europe is not a consumer cuck >le god bless murica feels fucking good
Kevin Diaz
Is the ESRB corrupt?
How do they operate? Does anyone know?
Oliver Turner
If it were anything else I might agree, but I'll take anything to kill this current business model
Michael Anderson
Stay bitter soyboy. All your P2W games are going to be crushed.
Jack Bell
I thought Sup Forums defends lootboxes, that's how jewish that place is
Bentley Morgan
>I want them to be a containment site for all the retards That is Sup Forums
Noah Jones
Aaah! un bebè! Alo! commen vas tu? ça va bien?
Jordan Lee
Ok seriously what exactly did Battlefront 2 do in order to be the big offender that broke the camels back when it comes to lootboxes?
Austin Howard
I have to imagine that, while not completely corrupt, there's a symbiotic relationship between them and major publishers. I cannot imagine lootboxes getting ignored for this long without some money changing hands.
Gabriel Lopez
You're right the only thing Yuropoors consume are semen rations and hate speech law
Christopher Harris
Good soygoy
Jayden Campbell
>I’m not buying them, but literal retards and children are, please do something about it Fixed
Jace Roberts
Haha I don't play them. That's probably why I'm not begging some faggot bureaucrat to protect me from le ebil weapons crates
Jonathan Moore
They barely do. If they would play any of the steam """"early"""" access games they would approve it without a second thought just by playing it for 5 minutes (since its still a video game) Same with battlefront 2. They go into a game, see no anime titties in front of them and slap a E rating on it. See any blood? Shit tough luck its now T.
Leo Bailey
>if Midway didnt push violence so hard then nobody would have bothered
That's just like saying > if only your game didn't look any different from every other game, then this shouldn't have happened.
Midway innovated: the govt saw another way to stop innovation
All you have to do is not let your kid have access to your debit card Jesus Christ Yuropoors are such faggots.

Caleb Ortiz
Are you literally retarded? It's the name of a French institution, of course it's in French and not in English
Joshua Green
Very. Would you like to be labeled as the one that associated Star Wars with gambling?
Jaxson Davis
You're not even memeing, I seriously ordered Splat 2 yesterday over all this bullshit since it's a full game. I mean, it's a used copy, but it still adds to the demand of the game I think.
Nathaniel Rogers
>actually defending EA and claiming that EA being gone wouldnt INSTANTLY improve the entire video game industry
