How good is Shaman healing compared to the others? Obviously not as good as Priest, but what can players new to Shaman (at least in vanilla) expect?
Here friend.
youtube.com
darealmarkymark is also a good Jewtuber to watch for vanilla wow.
You can expect a raid slot because you have buffs and thus are useful even though you suck at healing. You can't heal as well as a priest and you don't have the multi-target healing potential a druid does who can keep heal over times refreshed on many people, people not even in her party. You also don't have a good emergency button like tranquality.
You also can't DPS due to mana limitations on elemental and blizzard giving you no gear for enhancement.
Vanilla wow raid spots
>The Best
Priests: Best healer
Fury DPS warriors (both one handed and two handed variations): Best dps and the highest survability of all melee dps
Protection warriors: the only tank
>Essential but not the best
Restoration Druids: Off healing
Combat Rogues: Someone needs to wear all that agility gear that drops
Frost/Fire Mages: The best ranged DPS. Not as good as the rogues and warriors in damage output but range is sometimes required.
>You're just here for the buffs
Paladins: Prepare to spend your entire life spamming blessings. If have a a nightfall axe you are permitted to auto-attack, it helps the mages, otherwise you will be cleansing or out of combat ressing the entire fight
Shamans: Totems. Totems. Totems. You can also auto attack if you have a nightfall axe!
Warlocks: You soulstone the priest and keep the mage's dps up with curse of elements. You also dps because you have nothing else to do.
>Seat warmer: You're only there because the guild couldn't find one of the higher tier classes
Literally everyone else.
>Paladins: Prepare to spend your entire life spamming blessings. If have a a nightfall axe you are permitted to auto-attack, it helps the mages, otherwise you will be cleansing or out of combat ressing the entire fight
>forgetting about the one guy who's the wisdom bitch
How is light's hope? Thinking of playing opposite faction while we wait
I play on it. What do you mean "how is it?"
Glad I'm not the hunter.
Okay, so I'm thinking for my male tauren shaman to do herbalism and alchemy. I miss me some flower picking in vanilla. The potions could probably help as well. Especially if I want to drug the rogue.
You needed hunters for tranq shot so they should be in essential tier since no one else can tranq
>tfw want to tank badly but will never have less than 170 ping
would Sup Forums be for or against returning PVE content if the classic realms have 1.12.1 classes/talents from the launch?
re tuning*
Stability, drama or lack thereof, latency, population etc.
So here's what you have to look forward to
>Gathering proffessions: You will have to grind this or it will fall behind no matter what zones you run. Some zones have almost no mats what so ever. The good news is alchemy is the least painful.
>Alchemy: Most of your potions you will not drink because the best recipe to gain skill is the one that uses old potions as a reagent. You can run all the elixers at once which is great for hybird classes. If you're on a pvp server elixirs are far less impressive outside dungeons and sub 30 zones because of how many deaths you will have.
Swiftthistle is a great thing to grind for to get money while leveling
End-game you make lots of money since all the guilds spam elixers and potions on every raid boss. In addition you can improve your standing in the guild by giving out free stuff to the main tank and healer
Yeah, I had toyed with the idea of bribery. Keep your friends close, keep your drug dealer closer. I also do birthday parties.
>population
Population is so insanely dense that there will be at least one person doing any quest in every zone at any given time. If it's a zone below 40 the minimum is 2 people. If it's below 30 the minimum is 3.
There is at least one team forming for every instance at all times.
As a result you will fight over the rights to mark every objective vs both your own faction and the enemy faction. Some quests you will probably find are not worth the time competing over the objectives and you are literally better off grinding. Expect constant world PVP. I got 60 honor kills in 2 hours doing shimmering flats.
Make friends. You will quit the game at STV if you are still questing solo.
The server is filled with Chinese people with weird names. They never do world pvp, but do quest with you. They might be bots who knows. Sometimes they have really stupid builds: I met an agility stacking paladin.
>latency
There is occasional latency issues but nothing major. A 10 minute roll back once a week. A moment of lag once every 3 hours.
>drama
only if you stay in the chat channels: which is like listening to Sup Forums and Sup Forums whine 24/7
I WANT MY CLASSIC SERVER NOW MOMMY
I still have ptsd from the water totem quest chain.
I worry that some of the people new to vanilla will be put off by the difficulty. Games have certainly gotten easier since 2005.
>Chinese people with weird names
>Go to /who tab
>search "Xiao"
>drown in flood of Chinese players you had no idea existed before this moment.
I still have PTSD from the spiders all over Elwynn Forest. The mines... the kobolds still wriggling... god damn. EQ2 was even worse for spiders. That fucking low level dungeon with the gnolls that has a forbidden section overrun with spiders. I still remember going into that god damn room with the queen. The rooms design itself was nightmare fuel.
After resubbing earlier this week to get an alliance character through story and geared fro BfA release I've begun to crave classic more than anything. Im so fucking done with facebook game missions and welfare epics that get me higher ilvl than mythic raiding. How can anybody enjoy this?
I WANT CLASSIC NOW
Going for the gay tauren route?
...
GIVE CLASSIC FREE ME
There's nothing gay about tauren.
>Restoration Druids
>Not just used to use Innervate on Priests
>Paladins
>Not usually the MT healers because of superior mana efficiency
>Not being the raids designated Shadow Priest
I can't remember if you can heal NPCs or not in vanilla. I think I couldn't, and so it made solo priest for that high elf escort quest in the barrens a pain in the ass.
Druids can actually off-heal better than priests because of heal over times.
Druids also do not cut into the priest's item drops since someone needs to wear all those spell power and heal power leather drops.
I don't know how raiding is on classic servers but I talked to my paladin friend about healing and he basically said it's like this
>all paladins know they are the best single target healer due to mana effieincy
>paladins have such a bad reputation as healers that you can't fucking convience the GM to let you heal the main tank and he will assign you off healing
>paladins suck at off-healing. And the GM will notice your heal per seconds suck which affirms his beleif that paladins are shit healers and shouldn't heal the main tank
>blizzard decided to fuck over paladins in gear. The tier sets have a pile of random stats rather than ideal stats. Why the fuck does the most mana efficient healer get int and spirit, you want spell power dammit! Oh there's no spell power plate! So you try to argue that you should be allowed to roll on spell power cloth and leather
>none of the druids or priests want you cutting into their item drops so you arn't allowed to.
>so you gear worst than everyone else. Which makes your healing worst. Which makes cements the idea that paladins are shitter healers, which is why you never get to heal the main tank
Resto Druids have to downrank their Healing Touch a bunch to make them good at regular healing since their HoTs aren't cutting it for tank healing.
Also, it sounds like your friends Guild is retarded if they don't understand that Holy Pallies are the best for MT heal since they're even more efficient than fucking priests. Seriously, who assigns off-healing to the one class with the best single-target heals?
On the topic of gear - he's not wrong since most of Pally gear is pretty much meh at best. Still, denying someone who can wear plate armor to roll on cloth is retarded. Your friend needs to find another guild.
I'm telling you how the game operated during it;s first 3 months. That's how guilds thought.
That was before the best tactics were just posted online and everyone copied them. Back than they also thought the best tanking gear was the stuff with the most stamina rather than the most mitigation.
Nowadays everyone knows everything so it might be different. I havn't done raiding in vanilla on the private servers but from what I've heard you can practically PUG all the content. Meta-gaming really dumbs shit down.
c-cute
The fact that most private servers are 1.12 is a big factor in content being PUGable.
I'd like to see people puging Molten Core with the older talent trees and no welfare blues from Dire Maul, Zul Gurub and the gear buff that came in one of the later patches.
Oh, well nevermind then. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they tweaked some of the gear. Pally gear especially is fucking retarded and could use some un-fucking.
NO CHANGES
Wouldn't that mean you just need to run the instance a few more times to gear up?
The point is that once all the tactics and strategies are already known the only challenge is passing the gear check and doing the inputs. Tab targeting and cooldown whacking isn't exactly the height of input difficulty (especially with the millions of add-ons that assist you). So the only challenge left is the gear check.
I honestly think that's why no one is going to care about Vanilla wow for more than 4 months after it comes out. Everything is already known, and the new players will just read aowow or get it explained to them.
To give you an idea of what I'm talking about. You are talking about downranking heals. Where did you learn that? You probably don't remember. You certainly didn't figure it out on your own or in conjunction with your guild mates.
The first 3 months people had to think of that tactic themself and try it, than compare it to other tactics. And they had to compare it using judgement and observation rather than some meter that just tracked everything (they did have meters but they were less sophisticated).
That experience will never be re-created. Nor will the experience of learning what classes are best at what. I heard the first time Thunder Fury dropped it was given to a Hunter. That would never happen now: everyone already knows what item belongs to what spec and which one is more important.
I think they should release it unchanged for a year and then see if it needs balancing after that
>I honestly think that's why no one is going to care about Vanilla wow for more than 4 months after it comes out
People care about it 13 years after it came out
delet this
>Wouldn't that mean you just need to run the instance a few more times to gear up?
The improved talent trees make a big difference, and lot of the pre-raid BIS comes from Dire Maul so even if they run the other dungeons a thousand times someone from 1.1 would be considerably weaker than a player in 1.12.
But yeah, I can see the classic servers dying pretty fast unless they go with the OS RS route and release new content.
I know, I don't get it either. There's no sense of accomplishment with anything in modern WoW. I remember just getting your first epic item, or even your first blue or your basic fucking riding mount was a HUGE fucking deal in vanilla, because of the grind. Now you are just handed Legendaries and "achievements" for logging on. I don't get how anyone can feel like they've earned anything they get in modern WoW.
Right? I got Sephuz with some good luck very early on and you know what my first thought was? Damn this is that shit legendary. How the fuck do you make it disappointing to get the best quality gear in the game??? I was mch more hyped to clear an npc camp for 10 minutes to find a world chest with a green in it on Elysium. Its so strange how looking back at these two extremely similar situations the reaction is so different.
By "cared" you mean whined about it online. I think a lot of people care more about whining about games than actually playing them.
You can play Vanilla right now yet Sup Forums is filled with threads talking about what would/should happen 'when it comes out'. You'd think all the vanilla purists would be too busy at light's hope too have time to complain.
> I remember just getting your first epic item, or even your first blue or your basic fucking riding mount was a HUGE fucking deal in vanilla, because of the grind
I felt ripped off with the mount. What you are essentially buying is the ability to waste slightly less time traveling. And the moment you get the mounts they make the distance between quest givers and the objectives twice as far while you move 40% slower.
It's also a fucking lazy mount. On the nintendo 64 with Zelda they had a horse which controlled differently, had better animation transition, and didn't fucking clip through shit. It also didn't move at pathetic speeds. Seriously a horse moves 40% faster than a human...or twice as fast if it's an legandary steed! Pathetic.
>Blues and epics
The gear isn't even interesting. It's the same stats you got on greens but the numbers are inflated. Only the set bonuses really stood out as unique. Gear is escpially fucking boring if you're a caster. You get the ability to run out of mana and do nothing less. Every once in awhile you get some spell power but it doesn't add up to much till you get to the 60 stuff.
Unless they massively buff the armor and health of raid mobs/bosses mana is not a issue in the slightest for any weird spec before late AQ40/Naxx.
Shit just dies to quickly. Where you do run into mana problems is between fights. Speed running Molten Core is surprisingly fun so except that from day 1. Guilds fighting over the best times.
But if they just do a polished version of a private server, shamans will always have a spot just to drop windfury totem.
Fill half the raid with 2 handed fury warriors and rogues and you're off to the races.
A warrior in proper blues/pvp gear with a nightfall and hopefully a bonereaver is beyond retarded compared to anything else.
When does this shit release?
Why is everyone releasing their games long after all hype has died down?
>You'd think all the vanilla purists would be too busy at light's hope too have time to complain.
I see you're new here
>Log into Cata a few months after release without really knowing anything about it
>All my totems are now cool downs
WHY THE FUCK DID THEY THINK THIS WAS OKAY ITS LIKE TAKING PORTALS FROM MAGES, STEALTH FROM ROGUES, MOBILITY FROM WARRIORS, FAGGOTRY FROM HUNTERS
It might be shit, but at least it's shit you felt like you actually earned. Nowadays it's just the same crap it always was but instead of having to work for it it's just given to you for nothing.
No they weren't.
Theres a very wierd cycle of
>New fresh server hype!
>Delay
>Release with 12,000 players is crashy and buggy as fuck
>Server turns out to also be buggy as fuck, barely changed from stock core
>People progress to MC maybe BWL
>Repeat
>You'd think all the vanilla purists would be too busy at light's hope too have time to complain
>bugs
>lags
>chinks
>slavs
>corrupt admins
Gee, I wonder, user, why do people want official servers.
There you go. You're too busy complaining. Hell you guys are so busy you have begun to complain Blizzard's own vanilla server before it's even made. There';s daily threads speculating about what features you will complain about.
People on the origenal vanilla put up with all kinds stupid shit.
I've played both Nost and Elysium, but quit in February when first signs of shitstorm began to appear. But I guess I am just complaining you fucking faggot.
You're in a thread talking about a game you fucking quite because you hated it. Of course you're complaining. You managed to track down the thread talking about something you don't even want to play. LOL
I hated the management, not the game, retarded subhuman. Nost was amazing, but sadly died. But at least it died for something.
Your healing is actually better than priest.
Gonna play a shaman or priest, still undecided. Probably going to be PvP focused.
I played a warlock in vanilla so I'm kinda interested in playing something different.
I think the big issue with vanilla is how useless all the items are outside of raids. No drive to grind gold, no impact on PvP, nothing.
