Despite the generic-looking box art, this game ended up very good. Took me completely by surprise. Would you consider this one to be one of the best RPGs in the last 5 years?

Yes.
one of the top rpgs of all time imo
It's an RPG as much as DMC is an RPG game. Also sequel never ever
Fucking how?
Bad combat.
Bad characters.
Bad story.
Bad magic.
>DD2 never ever
Dragon's Dogma is a game that's wholly lacking on all fronts. Most can admit the story, characters, and world are uninspired and uninteresting, leaning on the "stellar gameplay" as reasons for its praise. But the gameplay itself is shallow, masquerading as an action RPG that requires player mastery to improve, when in reality it offers combat that in many ways is a simpler, flashier Skyrim, without any of that games' strengths to carry it.
considering it did one of my favorite class archetypes almost perfectly - Magical Archer - it instantly jumped up to my top 10. I have 180 hours on this game somehow. Not even sure how that happened
Great replay value too
nice trolling, mate
TODAY I WOKE AND LOOKED OUTSIDE AGAIN
BUT THE SKY LOOKED THE SAME TO ME
>bad combat
>bad magic
the game has many flaws but combat&magic are it's best parts. The main reason why i played this shit for 500hr
In what way is the combat anything like skyrim?
is that webm supposed to be impressive
This it's like a black hole you can resist all you want but you are spending the rest of eternity with it.
I will never not be mad that they lost the rights to this.
no I'm just legitimately confused how the game even has a cult following. feels like shit to play
Where did you copy this from?
It's either pasta or taken from some shit review. Who knows what went through user's mind when he decided to post that shit.
Friend of mine keep telling me to get it since I liked dark souls and rpgs in general. I played about 8 hours on about 3 different occasions and hated it. The quests and objectives felt boring. The combat felt stiff and unresponsive. Also, the impact that new armor and weapons had felt negligible.
Totally agree.
...
Combat is weak, writing is terrible, graphics are average. What's the appeal?
I don't know what to tell you mate. It's not like the basics of the combat are hard, it's got the same targeting and ability layout as a hundred third person games. What sets Dragons Dogma apart is that the abilities they give you access to are more interesting and unique than in other games, and the combat is a much more mobile battle-royale for some characters than a LOT of this games predecessors.
Are you and your pawn both set up with a good skill set and equipment? It makes a big difference
I'm not saying it's hard, I'm saying it plays like shit. Probably mainly because there's no lock-on so you're just kind of dancing aimlessly across the battlefield.
The character customization was top notch. Plus I got to make my perfect amazon waifu 10/10
I find the combat fun, granted i just started the game, iv been doing one or two quests a day, i find the game takes a long time to traverse. Great game to play on quick spurts.
you sound like a shitter
I thought the game worked fine without lock on, plus climbing shit was great.
>Combat is weak
Sure, if compared to dark souls. But compared to other RPGs, it's great.
>writing is terrible
What? The story is interesting, well planned out, not overly complex and has a satisfying conclusion. The dialogue is also really good, especially the dragon's lines.
> graphics are average
Now you're just trolling. The game looks amazing, even on the PS3.
Just bought the game for PS4. What am I in for?
(My PC is broke so no 60fps for me unfortunately)
go to /dsg/, post pawn info and drown in Riftbux.
Is your question supposed to be this retarded
...
No gatsu armor:(
>No gatsu armor:(
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Now I wish I had it on PC so I mod in Into Free as well. Oh well, I'll just buy it again.
>tfw PC
>No one hires my Strider
>Have to live on Rift Crystal Specks
I can see why people like it, it's like if you were to play an standard RPG like TES but remove the dogshit combat and have faster paced gameplay in its place.
To be honest, it's not that great. If I weren't a hueg fashion/character creation fag I would probably regret buying it at full price.
It had some really cool ideas though:
>Pawn system is unique and interesting. Pawns are a big help in combat and they can tell you about secrets they discovered on other player's adventures.
>Lots of weapons and outfits available and you can mix and match armorpieces.
>Classes all feel different and they are all fun to play around with (apart from the healingwizard, leave that to a pawn).
>Combat animations look cool and feel impactful.
But there's also major downsides:
>The main character is functionally mute.
>Stat points are automatically allocated, and they ultimately aren't as important as your gear stats.
>The world feels empty, with only 1 city, 1 village, and 1 encampment and an overworld with the same encounters at the same locations every time.
>Most of the 'big' monsters aren't that big
>Enemy recolours
>The climbing mechanic sees no use outside of combat even though it could add a lot to exploration (see: BotW).
>Though the combat animations are swell, the actual combat boils down to 'spam the appropriate skill and use regular combos while your stam recharges' (or just itemspam).
Feels good when you get your pawn back and someone said they had a balanced beauty
Just post it on /dsg/, or steam forums if you want to earn some riftbux. I'd hire yours if i was still playing this game, mine is strider as well.
This game is on sale on steam, thinking of buying it, but I don't have a controller and everybody else I've asked says it's better with a controller. Can I still play it and enjoy it without one, though? Or are the controls dogshit for keyboard and mouse?
I've still never found the fucking abbey with the nuns
I forgot:
>Story has interesting ideas but needs better hooks, characters, and dialog to keep you invested all the way to the end, where things finally get cool.
>see: BotW
fuck off
i preferred K/M controls actually. If you want to play as an archer especially, having the mouse controls to aim just feels right, and if you have a mouse with side buttons it makes the skill swapping easy and smooth
Is there a barrier or something around bbi that causes pawns to become retarded?
Default pc controls are shit, but it's largely rebindable.
One thing that is not rebindable though is your skills. On controller, you use bumpers to modify what your face buttons do. On pc, you have to assign modification keys. you can't, for example, put skills on your number keys and still have interact on 'e'
It's bland as shit and extremely generic
The only thing salvaging it is the fun combat and the pawn system
It's north of the healing spring.
They were always retarded, it just didn't matter because the content was so easy. By BBI round 2, they basically constantly insta-die anyway, and it's not even worth picking them up.
Got 40 hours in and got reaaaaal bored. The combat could only hold it up so far. The tease of exploration was great, until you realize that there's really not that much to be found. Fuck crafting so much
Too bad this game was unfinished, it had a lot of potential.
Combat is mediocre by Action standards.
RPG elements are mediocre by RPG standards.
Unless you desperately always wanted your fantasy RPG's to play more like DMC/SotC there's not much interesting here.
So the box art has nothing to do with how the game is actually like? Kill yourself, you retarded autist.
THE GAME IS FUN
>Probably mainly because there's no lock-on so you're just kind of dancing aimlessly across the battlefield.
Scrub.
>The world feels empty, with only 1 city, 1 village, and 1 encampment
This was actually a plus for me. It all felt nicely contained and focused. There wasn't a sense of being overwhelmed by having to explore a massive map with no end in sight.
I just wish there was more control over what your pawn does.
Would have been better if it had true online play. Even with only 1 other person.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm starved for a full co op rpg experience that isn't phantasy star online. I want to go on a proper adventure with a friend or 2 that isn't Destiny. Maybe technology isn't there yet.
THE WIND IS PUSHING ME
I know there's no way to directly tell your pawn to do something specific during battle, but have you tried the learning chair and the tonics?
How is the PS4 version compared to the 360 one?
Yeah my pawns fine in main game and combat usually, but fuck me if i get grabbed by a mimic or we have to fight those crazed pawns in bbi
Playing with mouse/keyboard did not hinder me one bit. Granted, I had to rebind some buttons but that's just 5 minutes of groundwork.
It's among the best Action RPGs released in the last 5 years, yes. Many games need to emulate its gameplay and some of its features for sure.
Unfortunately, Capcom is running on fumes and probably won't be around in 10 years so I doubt we'll ever get a sequel to it.
No, true online play destroys difficulty in games. See: Dark Souls/Nioh Coop.
They did it correctly with the asynchronous style. It needs to be developed further, as it really made the game unique. It added a strange, pokemon-like dynamic to the game.
No black bars, better textures and an actually stable 30 fps. The PS3/360 versions are infamous for their bad performance.
youtube.com
youtube.com
It runs at 30fps 1080p stable at least.
PS3/360 versions ran at fucking 18-25 FPS. They never touched 30 fps. Fucking abysmal texture filtering, too. Remember that the original release didn't even have HD textures by default.
This is correct except for
>bad magic
This games potential for fashion is insane
sliders on left qt pls
MASTERWERKS ALL
>adventure game with no adventure
What sort of taste is this
t. skyrimbabbies
CANT GO WRONG
There are enough opportunities for adventure. You don't need an endless map.
half decent combat wasn't enough, dropped the game when i had to collect 20 stones or whatever after beating the dragon (which was a laughable bossfight btw)
felt like i was forcing myself to finish it
It's one of the worst in my opinion, the combat is absolutely abysmal
>hurr let's freeze the screen everytime you hit something with your weapon, just like in my animus
The dragon boss fight was great.
SMASH THOSE BONES
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS, ARISEN
EVEN IN NUMBERS A WEAKLING IS A WEAKLING STILL
What gifts do you guys give other people's pawns? I almost always end up giving them a large nut.
i really liked it at the beginning but 10 hours in it felt like a chore
it has to be one of the worst offenders when it comes to "big empty open world"
What gifts do you give, user?
Yes
If i get a pawn with top tier fashion and they do good I usually try to give good craft materials, but usually I don't have any so I just give rank fish or nuts
user MUST WE PART
I love this game so damn much. I've played it every conceveable way at this point. Shame these threads are always shitposted to death by bethesda-shills, pcfags so fat they got an infinite fast-travel stone and autisticsouls. I still don't know people thing fandom is mutually exclusive.
It's good, but no I wouldn't.
I agree, I've enjoyed all three of those games for what they were, I don't get why people feel the need to latch on to just one of them
You suck.
DONT TOUCH ME.
>7/10
>For more Dragon's Dogma, go to IGN.com
*whoosh*
>Also, the impact that new armor and weapons had felt negligible
Level up and get to about 14h to start getting the new stuff, you low test soyboy faggot
Im still pissed they didnt port it to the switch
They should stop porting it and make 2 already.
There's nothing to do after you're done doing missions in an area and barely any interesting things to find other than your occasional waterfall or spring.
Also the game was going to have an entire continent and island
They should simply release DD Online in the West and finish Deep Down.
If they had released it on the switch then 2 would have come because it. 1 would have sold like cakes there.
You're grossly overestimating Capcom.
