Anyone else here play FFXI?
Anyone else here play FFXI?
I do. I'm on Pheonix playing with a few friends, guys from Sup Forums and a few stragglers picked up a long the way.
If anyone is on the server and needs a pearl, just leave your character name in the thread and I'll hook you up.
Convince me to.
ARR was my first MMO but I've got people in my FC who won't shut up about this game being better but never say why. They just talk about the community.
Can someone clear things up for me on JSE cape augments? I'm kind of confused how Detrovio is working. I guess I wasn't reading enough because at first he gave me a menu to either keep or not keep the augment. I said keep (it's a brand new i.e. blank cape) and then he asks if I "heartily enjoy" the stats or if I "despise them and want new ones." But isn't this what I already answered? The only other thing I could think of is that he's offering to reroll the stats again right there, but that obviously can't be right otherwise people would just spam reroll until they get what they want. Or maybe is it a one-time reroll?
do i need to unlock and level up my subjob?
i just want to level puppeteer REEEEEE
Someone should just make some FAQ page already why pre-wow era mmos are better, and have own section for FFXI since this question comes up in every fucking thread.
Not really not. It's not that useful until you're maybe 50+. But I don't think any subjob has anything useful for PUP since they're h2h users and thus don't benefit from SAM or DNC/NIN/THF sub. You can get to 99 and do all the old content just fine. Do get it after you finish leveling though and want to do the "current" stuff.
I kind of feel like I might have missed out. FFXIV is my first time getting into an MMO on my own, the first one I played was GW2 because a friend bought it for me on release day. I have no real idea what pre-wow mmos were like.
I'm pretty sure you can keep rerolling until you run out of Refractive Crystals or you're satisfied.
I like to think that the market was different in the past. MMOs were only a thing for autists who'd spend all their free time playing it. Nowadays so many people that play casually are into MMOs now so modern MMOs just cater to them since that market is larger and also easier to catch/please.
Oh so the second question is just to speed things up if I have more crystals? Because I read you can trade him your cape to delete the augments for free, so that second question of his just cuts out that "middle man" so to speak if you've got multiple crystals.
In FF11 you can cook Galkan Sausages. You do not do this through crafting. You have to walk about killing horny sheep until they literally spill their guts, and you then cook it over a very specific Goblin's campire in an obscure part of South Gustaburg. The result is a Galkan Sausage, a pretty good attack+ item that cannot be purchased from NPCs or crafted. This isn't even a quest. It's just something you can figure out and do for the hell of it. FF11 is a world full of adventure.
I'm looking through Detrovio's stuff now on wiki, since I don't have any crystals to test out on, and now I'm not sure.
Problem is I haven't used him in a long time since I got some decent augments for my BLU MAB cape. I don't know, try it out and see what happens.
I made a warrior on phoenix but I have no idea what I'm doing. Any good guides for beginners?

However, I suggest wandering around in the game too instead of looking at wiki all the time.
Thanks m8
I'm on Phoenix, too.
What's your character name?
its stupid i have to grind so much when i just wanna fight bosses with puppetbro
I would say you did and didn't. I certainly look at old FFXI with rose tinted glasses, as it had a lot of amazing things but also a few super hard and mega infuriating things.
You needed a group for everything, so if you were in a strange time zone or kept odd hours then you were pretty fucked. I live in Kuwait and while there were many Arab players on my server they were all botter and gilbuyers and I didn't want to hang out with them. Americans were a mix of good and bad but I couldn't play with any of them because of the time difference. Europeans I never played with because they were a minority on my server and stuck with their countrymen (Italians with Italians etc)
In the end I played exclusively with the Japanese. It was fun but very difficult to communicate with them.
I finally found my job guyz, now i need to practice my skillchains and magic burst and work on my MB/fast cast/cure sets and i will be good to go, i already got Akademos so thats a good start
SCH's a fun job. It requires a lot of gear, but once you find your groove you'll be having a great time with it.
POST YOUR TOP 3 AF SETS

We have an LS on Asura.
I'm not online now but if you want a pearl hop in:
discord.gg
and ask for a pearl. We'll get one to you. This also goes for anyone who has general XI questions that aren't getting answered here.
I wish I could enjoy this game without lua scripts...I'm too much of a fucking bird brain to take the time to learn them for gear swapping and other macros.
I just want to explore the world and fight things but I know I'll be gimping myself unless I do gearswap shit.
Thanks, daddy.
...
They aren't required until you go to do endgame stuff. Also, you could just ask in FFXIAH forum for someone's and they'll usually share. Then you only need to replace their gear with yours and it's not so bad.
github.com
Find your job
Equip the gear you want ingame
type in //gs export
Go to your export folder under GS and copy the information from there and slap it onto the GS you obtained earlier.
For example, you're playing a DD job. You've got your TP set,, your WS sets.
So you go ingame, put on your TP set, and then type in //gs export.
WS#1 uses a lot of STR, so you put on your STR appropriate gear, type in //gs export.
WS#2 uses a lot of DEX, so you put on DEX and type in //gs export.
After that it's just copy and paste. It's really not that difficult.
If you wanna work on triggers (like defining what spells/abilities activate what gearswaps) or macro functions (like hitting F9 to swap between TP gear #1 or #2) then you'll wanna read over this
ffxiah.com
But most of the Kinematics Gearswaps covers this.
Not him but thanks.
How much does race selection matter nowadays?
Not very.
Pick the race that you think looks the coolest.
Pick Elvaan F if you wanna be my mommy.
Honk if you love Elvaan mommies.
...
what's an easy t1 in reisenjima for fern stones to solo farm
what job should i go as
I spam Crom Dubh on SCH. Not sure if it's the most time effective but it worked for me.
>tfw CPing as COR and shitposting at the same time
Welcome to the good life.
Don't fuck up those rolls, boy
Okay I'm probably retarded and messed it all up, but how do I get gear from Skirmish? Where does the coffer spawn?
So I got UNM THF boots last night for that juicy movement speed bonus and I'm working on getting Ayapec shells to pop some NMs tonight.
Is there a trick to determine what drops you get, or does TH enhance it at all?
i cant remember but i think there is an item you you use on yourself that spawns a chest on you but i could be wrong
It's random what you get, but you can also get nothing. So TH helps a little bit. I would rather go as a job that can kill the NM and and use /THF if I can rather than full on THF.
Shit I think I just failed the primary objective. Thought I'd get at least something. Holy shit where is the explanation in the game. Can't even do basic shit for getting gear lmao just gonna quit now
>free login period ends tonight
It's been fun boys
The old man in Eastern Adoulin and his wife explain everything. You may have accidentally used tougher mats to open it than expected. There are guides on bg-wiki for all those Intermediate Quest stuff
It's gonna be lonely without you nerds.
I just hope your journey back was a good one, user.
BLU AF2
NIN AF2(I just love the color scheme)
SCH AF1
Honorary mention - GEO AF
>Came back to play Run and Geo
>Get Run to 81, enjoying it
>Haven't touched Geo yet
>Wanted to avoid Nin yet it'll be my first 99(again)
God dammit.
I did the same thing.
I just can't quit NIN since it was my first to 75 and I have a lot of good memories from playing it and doing endgame with it. I was the main tank for my first endgame shell, which lead to lots of memories.
its always hilarious when cornelia waves in serious fights
I'm loving. Playing on Valefor with an LS that picked me up. Always something to do.
Levelling RUN right now at 1500+ JP. Then I'll work on BLU, WAR, SMN, BLM, WHM, RDM, and THF.
Having a duo buddy is recommended. Also level BLU because it's like the most versatile class in the game. Look up the right spells to learn though and try to merit/JP asap enough to get extra blue magic skill points.
lets talk about adventure with no help, and Im recalling from memory its been a few years
>get quest from elf dock area
>"Get me some berries from the forest, i dont know where just get me some"
>wander the forest for hours
>chilling to the awesome music while trying to avoid goblins and orcs
>find a tower he mentioned
>nope no grapes
>find another small tower
>clickable ??? in there
>You found some berries
FFXI is an RPG and FFXIV is an action game with RPG elements.
Also FFXI doesn't have all that modern AAA game shit of "follow these quest markers, do these checklists of activities!" It's more of an actual sandbox and less of an "open world" meme
>tfw wanna be a cute Mithra
>all those slut Mithra bringing down public perception of our race
Alright Skirmishtard here again. Is there any penalty for attempting the second objective? If for example I'm doing Yorcia, and if the Cantonment gets destroyed during the second objective, do I also lose all my loot? Or can I attempt it but still be guaranteed my first coffer?
You lose all your shit.
I'm kinda upset about Cornelia. There was a new trust poll and it was between her and WotG's Lady Lilith
I have no idea why anyone would choose Corny Cornelia over Lilith-chan.
honestly it's not worth getting into FFXI now. the game has long changed so it's not the same, the community is long gone and what's left are shambles and jaded people, the only reason to consider playing FFXI today is if you want to experience the story but you can just youtube all the cutscenes.
Wait, I knew they had a poll and Cornelia won, but over Lilith? How the fuck did that happen?
FFXI died years ago
The best part about the game as that it actually felt like a world rather than a hub park like FFXIV. That's dead now.
Community is still there just as jaded as it was in 75-era
I can't find it anymore, but they did a survey where players were able to pick who they wanted as the next trust. Cornelia won out over Lilith.
I think the world is still very much alive and they give you tons of reasons to explore and wander.
I think you guys need to stop being so cynical about things and actually try playing the game with friends or at least make an effort to participate in the server community.
The thing is FFXI is never gonna be the game it was when ~3000 players were on at any hour. It can't be. The game was so designed around having those people there, it had to change when they started thinning out.
But the game in its current state is still so many steps above the other shit currently on the market. It's not even funny. When you say "the game is dead, move on," it's like saying "Oh, that burger used to have tomatoes, onions and thousand island, but it doesn't any more. You just get the meat. So why don't you just forget about it and go eat literal dirt off the ground?"
Oh okay good I bailed when I stayed to watch objective 2 start up. Had like 6 guys come out right at once in similar style to the last wave of objective 1 which costed me a construct. Got the lesser of one of two pieces of armor I was trying to get on my first win. Is there a pattern to how the monsters and flowers spawn or is it randomized?
There's some satisfaction still in leveling up and beating shit up and also going through the game with your own guy. Helps you get involved more, and all the main story lines shouldn't take longer than 2 months I'd think, outside of whatever isn't soloable at the end for RoV and/or SoA.
Random as far as I remember. I haven't done it in a while.
What's everyone up to? Finished doing ambuscade for the month and just waiting around for something to pop up on the LS.
Grinding UNMs so we can have some Escha pops. Friends wanna challenge Tier 2s in Zi'Tah and Ru'Aun.
Encountered this while we were doing Ayapec, haven't seen this kind of character in a long time.
