I have never played a Metal Gear game until now. I went into it with the expectation that it would be at least 'okay', but it wasn't, it was just shit. I almost fell asleep two thirds into the damn thing because I didn't care for most of the things happening. Someone please tell me this is the worst Metal Gear game, because its disturbingly high on many lists.
So...that's all there is to it?

Its sort of a litmus test. If you dont like it you should kys
Try Fallout4 or Mass Effect Andromeda.
Nice thread, OP.

mgs3 is a masterpiece
No OP, you just got shit taste. MGS3 = one of the greatest games, ever.
Also, MGS games are meant to be played in release order. No exceptions.
Your opinion is pretty common among small dicks guys. I'm not telling you are one but statistics are against you.
just picked this up the other day, havent played it since around when it came out and didnt get very far. what am i in for
snake going on about muh boss over and over
ocelot throwing revolvers and thirsting for snake's cock
cool boss fights complete with their entry level philosophical rantings, just like every other mgs
>starting a series with the 3rd entry
Boy OP you sure are fucking stupid now arentcha
MGS3 would actually make some sense to start with because the story takes place before MGS1&2 so nothing about the first two games is spoiled.
Even though it's a prequel, playing 3 first is a bad choice in this series.
1 is still the best introduction to the series.
then decide whether you want more sci-fi and keep sneaking in buildings (play 2) or you want less sci-fi and sneak through forests (play 3).
Story wise is the game that smeared shit all over the series.
Gameplay wise, I found Snake Eater borderline unplayable. The fixed camera combined with the irregular nature of the jungle maps makes it feel like trash. I'm seriously astonished that anyone would spend 3-4 years making that crap, then record it in a disk, put it in a nice box, and send it away to stores all over the world so anyone can see it.
the only reason metal gear solid is popular is some sort of shared mental disorder
like that brain parasite from cats
no sane person would ever think it was good
No, the game and entire series is not designed like that. A lot of MGS3 is based on the assumption that you've played the past games already.
MGS3 thread? How well does it emulate now a days?
>got MGS HD collection from a friend
>about to try it out
>it doesn't include the first MGS
I'm a hacker so I ended up emulating the first game to play the games in order, but normies don't care about that. If you bought the collection as your first metal gear game just to try it out, there would be no sense to not start with MGS3. It also makes sense to start with it since it's super fucking easy compared to MGS and MGS2.
Shit.
Just wait for the Android release, and "emulate" that instead.
OR wait for the inevitable PC releases.
You do know that MGS1 is available on PSN Store? And yeah, anyone not stupid with a computer would obviously emulate it.
Finally, there's always the superior Legacy Collection.
>MGS3
>super fucking easy
tons of MGS2 babbys would like to disagree with you. Just because "m-muh no Soliton radar! Muh crawling!!
You can finish MGS3 with zero effort. Once you get the shotgun you can run around knocking down anyone in your way with a shell, and you spend most of your time running from point A to point B.
That's annoying that it's so complex that the community hasn't optimized it yet. I have it on my cfw 3ds. I've beaten the game before a few times but that was back around it's release.
I regret my PS3 dying now, because that HD release sounds more appealing.
Play in release order you cuck. If you just jump right into MGS3 without any experience with the previous games, you're gonna have a bad time. MGS3/4 handle stealth in a more difficult fashion than the previous titles, but the earlier games prepare you for that change. Just jumping into MGS3 fucking blind is pretty dumb OP, have you ever considered it's the third Metal Gear Solid game for a reason? MGS3 isn't like other games, the game was made as a continuation of the series for fans, not just some random buttfuck who picks it up on a whim.
used PS3 bundles have gone for < 150 bucks for several years now. I bet the console alone would be sub-75.
It emulates perfectly. Only issue is in the widescreen patch in regards to water(rare occurance).
The PS3 version can be emulated too I think. It's probably buggy as fuck though.
PS3 has been shitty for me. I can only run P5 at 30 fps with big drops in populated areas.
So do or do not use the Widescreen hack?
Do use it unless you don't care. It's just a minor issue.
you're like a fucking tank in MGS3 compared to the previous game, complete with healing items galore and regenerating health. the only bosses people have any trouble with are meant to be knifed (the fury) or meant to be dealt with in an entirely another way (the sorrow)
peace walker was even easier. must be kojimbo's tricks to make Naked look like a badass compared to the rest of the protag's, it makes absolutely no sense in any other way
Here's a pic. There's only 2 areas with water though and this is the worst of them.
