PLD or RUN are usually the most wanted tanks. PUP tank can be good, but in rare cases.

Went back to the game some months ago. Its still fun. Maybe even more than it used to be as far as straight up gameplay goes. But everything got so streamlined. Not necessarily a bad thing in a lot of cases, but the game really does push you to the end of end game fast. Once it comes down to farming augment gear and running Omen, there's no steam left. Still had a ton of fun starting from scratch, playing all of the stories again, experiencing jobs I just didn't play back in the day for whatever reason.

I have to confess that I never played the game but constantly read up on it and the things that went down in game.

There's one aspect that I particularly enjoy and that's reading up about server drama. I do this with a lot of multiplayer games but I find the stories from FFXI are the juiciest.

One story an user shared in one of these threads involved someone running a linkshell to do end game events and being arrested for receiving sexual favors in return for giving out highly sought after items.

If anyone has any interesting stories, drama or otherwise, I'd love to hear it. Nothing beats listening to gossip.

it should be a crime for a game this old to still have a monthly required sub fee. they don't even use the sub fee to make new story content, it's in maintenance mode.

How do I join play on a private server?

I agree and disagree.

It'd be nice to have a limited F2P option that would allow new players a way to get into the game. As it is right now, there's a Free Trial that you can do but it has some crazy stupid limitations like only being able to communicate through /say. It's kinda steep to expect someone completely new to the game to want to jump in when they have to pay 10~25$ and then add in a monthly subscription on top of that with no way of trying it out.

But that's kinda where I want the F2P to stop. F2P means no source of income from monthly subscriptions, which leads to alternative forms of cash shops and similar things being made available that could really fuck things over for everyone. There's also the aspect of complete beginners jumping into the game and ruining the economy, messing things up, and getting into trouble everywhere, but I think most people talk about this topic to death so I'll just leave it at that.

I want FFXI to have more players, but I don't think F2P is the best option for it. Creating a better Free Trial of the game, promoting it, and rolling out a new expansion with actual major marketing behind it would probably have a very positive impact on the game without hurting it in the long term like F2P will inevitably end up doing.

Install FFXI, update it, install the private server modifications into the FFXI install base, and run the private server executable to log into that private server.

I would be happy with the game just being buy to play like a regular final fantasy game. a monthly sub fee is too much for a old game like this.

Problem with that is that they've stated multiple times that their major revenue from the game came in the form of the monthly subscriptions.

I'd be down for making the game available for free, but the monthly subscription is maintained, but probably at a reduced rate if possible.

that was probably really true at one point, but I can't see them using the sub fee now to benefit the game. the game stopped receiving expansions, story updates, and it's mainly just bugfixes and non major updates from here on out.

if guild wars 2 can do a buy2play/f2p release, I don't see why this 2002 game can't do the same.

According to the Financial Reports, no it doesn't. All of XI & XIV's budgets are distributed accordingly based on subs to house funding for their "HD Boxed & Digital" games. XI & XIV are investments to fund other games, nothing's being siphoned

I did not, but considering the writing style of Square-Enix regarding Thieves, he's likely not what he seems to be. I'm guessing some nobleman that fell from grace or a former notorious thief that had to change names.

I don't think there's any way to play the game offline, maybe if you set up your own private server, but I'm not too experienced with that entails.

Really? I've already cleared CoP about two years ago, but I had forgotten all about Louverance being someone else, he was my least favorite in the CoP Party. Jabbos for example was more memorable to me.

Yeah the Louverance who saves the world with you is Vauderame. The actual Louverance was fucking around minding his family's land in Carpenter's Landing while you were doing all the Chains of Promathia stuff.

The epilogue scenes set up something involving him that seemed to hint at one more storyline involving him, but he never shows up again after that as far as I recall.

No such thing as "offline" FFXI, but you can set your own local private server and just connect to it. It will be lonely as fuck playing by yourself and buggy but it's the closest to "offline" FFXI.

It's amazing how much set up we did get fulfilled with XI, but at the same time a lot we didn't. Isn't there a few continents left unexplored in XI? Or even Lilith's World?

You can see Vauderame standing with the gang in the cutscene, leaving the identity of the man who pretended to be Louverance a bit of a mystery...

There's the Orc homeland, and a few places in the South.

The Far East is name dropped several times, and is supposed to past the Imperial White Gate in TOAU, but we never get to go there and see it.

For a while some people theorized that the Far East would have come after ToAU, with the two being directly connected and allowing them to expand on Aht Urhgan White Gate due to its popularity as the new player hang out.

But sadly, nothing came of it.

Beyond being at war with Aht Urhgan over the Astral Candy, the Far East was embroiled in some kind of interesting Shogunate War of Succession. It would have basically lead into an expansion that fused the Warring States with Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Also, isn't Reisenjima kinda the Far East? It is after all the home of Iroha, daughter of Tenzen.

Yeah, the south is supposed to have some kind of huge Mithran nation, but I don't think they ever teased anything about it outside of the Shikarees and Lehko.

And yeah, Reisenjima is in the Far East, but it's an island temple-nation off the coast of the actual Far East.

They've created quite a bit of endgame content since RoV hit, despite having a skeleton crew, since magic or something. They even made a new type of Dyna for ilvl 119+

Not sure about modern fishing beyond the update back in 2015 made it really hard to catch harder fish compared to the old gameplay, since they seem to regen too fast with a skill difference. There used to be a fish that was like 20k to NPC, but SE nerfed the prices when people were making too much money botting in Beacidine or however its spelt, instead of adding in money sinks to compensate like today.

I was honestly going to sub past the free login until someone recommended I do ambuscade.. intense is bullshit even at VE and regular rewards a whopping 50 halmarks at VE. What's the reward for E on regular?

Talk about tedious, I'd have to do ambuscade every day for hours to get anywhere and then run the risk of my points getting deleted, which I'm not even sure when that happens since it's based on the version update time

I've been burning through V2 Ambuscade on VD, each run takes about 5-10 minutes to kill the boss, depending on what books he pops.

We go in as DD DD DD + Tank Trust + WHM Trust + Selh'teus.

We just rip it to shreds, then we head to xarc[s] for demon farming.

I've been able to obtain Aynamo+1 set with Total Hallmarks, JSE cape maxed out with Hallmarks, and Jhakri Pigaches+1 from Gallantry.

75 points. Get in a group to kill it faster and earn gallantry. I soloed v2 on VD. Takes six or eight if he pops that DT book.

Monthly, when they do their monthly update.

They always change it out and reset points when they do an update. They update every month. Last update was Nov 10th, the next update is probably on Dec 10th+. They will always leave a server message when they're going to do it like a week before. Server messages are those blue texts that appear first in you chat log when you log in. Type /servmes to make it come up again.

But you should still do it with a group as there's a bonus to how much you get out of it if you participate with other people

DRK. I had a relic though. My non-REMA BLU would've probably done it faster. Selh, Arciela, Ulmia, Yoran, and August.

Selh will do Rejuvenation for aoe heals. Some things to note. He'll only do Rejuv if three or more people are yellow HP. He will do WS if he can SC with your WS and he's at 2000TP. The boss can do a curse aoe, you may want to hold until the curse wears and everyone is reduced to yellow to force Selh to Rejuv.

Arciela hastes only you and can do a phys and mag att/def buff or a healing aoe. Ulmia can be replaced with anyone. Yoran because Apururu failed me for the last time, again. August could probably be replaced with Gessho or Amchuchu.

What's an easy Tier 1 Reisenjima solo for SCH?

Sang Buaya, he's a pussy. He does some aoe stun a lot. Very non-threatening.

Someone else mentioned doing Crom Dubh easily as SCH. I don't really know how it'll work though. He does that darkness aoe that hits for a truck. I low manned it with Amchuchu and he was left barely standing afterwards. Don't know if a WHM trusts will be out of range. Not to mention the ice spikes that'll need to be dispelled. Make fusions and burst fire.

I keep doing Sang but man, he can be a total dick with AoE stun. I read that you have to avoid doing damage from "behind" him but I've never been behind him.

Sometimes he just locks into spamming Stunga and sometimes he never uses it, and sometimes he'll spam Sleepga and get everyone.

Can you silence him?
