>spend a long time creating Source 2 engine >when Valve is pretty much done making big games >no talks of licensing Source 2 at all What is Valve's endgame with Source 2? It seems to me they just wasted time, they were making this engine while they were still interested in large projects. Now this thing is supposedly out but Valve's will to create games is now limited to small, shy multiplayer entries.
I understand HL3 is cancelled, it's just weird how they spend time making Source 2 and nothing really is happening to it, I'm curious about other developers using it.
Well as I'm aware the name rather deceitful It's not a whole new engine like the jump from goldsrc to source, just a couple new features and a better UI framework Makes sense when you consider they've updated source near damn constantly over the years, obviously the jump wasn't going to be very impressive
It's supposed to have a better level editor though, so I guess that's cool. Anyway, we know l4d3 is at least at some relatively meaningful stage in development, and there's several other things they're confirmed to be working on
They just don't want any more disappointment than necessary, got the experience to warrant it anyway. Really don't expect them to announce anything that isn't damn well near finished already.
Owen Torres
>we know l4d3 is at least at some relatively meaningful stage in development [citation needed] The info out there is that they are making VR games, so more tech demo shovelware.
Jack Nelson
Isn't titanfall made in source?
Isaiah Baker
Source 1 not 2
Hudson Reed
G-Mod Source 2
Calling it now.
Elijah Peterson
I'm pretty sure Garry's Mod is gonna use UE4, there were threads about this, because Valve can't even deliver on their engine.
Brayden Roberts
here Valve never ceases to disappoint people, even die hard Source developers bailing because Source 2 is a no show
it's ogre, tons of people who worked on HL2 are long gone
Grayson Martin
Seriously why is Valve so retarded?
Daniel Morgan
>Try to target the console market with simple 'it just werks' Steam Machines >Release a bunch of them at wildly different price points and specs to confuse consolefriends Your guess is as good as mine
Grayson Edwards
L4D3 was a joke. They just have to title the folders of their projects, so when a dev creates a "let's port a L4D2 map to Source 2 for shits and giggles" project, the top folder gets named L4D3. This is what the "leaks" were showing. It's fucking common Valve jerkoffery. They also had folders named HL3.
But there was never any focused development on a new game. Their workforce was on Dota 2 and Source 2, the rest of the employees were literally fucking around meaninglessly as their job, cause Valve is trying to be the Google of vidya and have their workplace essentially be a playground.
Landon Campbell
why doesn't Gabe fire half of his company if they aren't required really?
Luke Nguyen
Who knows. I think Gabe just fucked off into a life of luxury with his daughters. He showed up for Dota 2 for a while, because he was a nerd who used to play the original so he got hype that his company gets to make a sequel.
Austin Martin
You know shit's gone south when Valve works on a goddamn card game with the engine, while still refusing to hand it out for public use.
Asher Foster
reminder that gaben is worth more than the president of the united states
Aaron Jenkins
>lel valve don't make games anymore meme
Retard, they confirmed they have 3 games in development
Hudson Gray
dota2 and csgo uses source2 why? cuz they require less power so spices can run the game on their potatoes which increase the revenue of valve selling keys or loot boxes or whichever crap they sell as micro transactions
Henry Taylor
>big games learn to read, faggot Yeah they announced VR tech demo shovelware.
Mason Hughes
All that power and instead of being a guiding light in vidya industry, he fucks off and lets us all rot in capitalism along with his dev and store platforms.
Julian Thompson
VR is the future idiot
Asher Hughes
I'm pretty sure Valve is working on VR projects that use Source 2.
Also their upcoming Dota card game will use Source 2.
>"So let's starve our loyal fans from content and give them the biggest fuck you in Video game history"
Charles Campbell
>portal2 shovelware this!
Justin Bell
>giving them innovation is tge biggest f*ck you in vidya history
Cooper Baker
I don't even give a fuck about Half-Life 3 anymore, but I'm curious about Source 2, what it would allow people to do that Source 1 doesn't, and if it could spawn some interesting mods or whatever. They can't even deliver a fucking engine these days, that they have been working on since forever.
Andrew Johnson
Their endgame was to fire all their competent employees so they can be less productive than monkeys at typewriters and still make fat bank.
James Robinson
So is valve some sort of private company welfare?
Adrian Sullivan
they created source 2 solely for ruining dota because they secretly (not really) hate it
Zachary Cook
Literally why? Why break compatibility with all existing mods and addons (which is pretty much all Gmod is) just for the sake of bringing out a "new" Gmod? The regular one serves its purpose, a new one won't help anything.
Brandon Bell
Valve is not releasing Source 2 to the public and the developers want to make a new game already. I think they're calling it something else, see
Caleb Phillips
Who cares what they call it? They're clearly trying to make Gmod 2, despite the fact that Gmod peaked years ago and most of the modders responsible for all the good gamemodes, addons and maps aren't around anymore to port their shit over to a new engine. It just seems like such a pointless venture.
Easton Adams
Competition with Unreal and Unity I think?
They like the money it can make.
I don't think anyone would take their attempts at game design seriously, even when they hammered in HotS game design into it.
Ryder Lewis
they made source 2 so they could polish dota 2 hats
Eli Adams
>valves endgame to upgrade the engine to lower fucking de optimization 2000+ comsmetic texture and model data will cause on the engine the iteration of souce that tf2 is built on can't take another 10 years of cosmetic bloat
Gabriel Jenkins
well for starters source 2 supports vulkan and it's also 64-bit by default
Tyler Cruz
>>no talks of licensing Source 2 at all ? Source 2 is free to use retard.
