so every single one?
>Le scuttlebug half press
I didn't even know there was a mario 64 ds
the controls ruined that game. you used the stylus on the touchscreen to 'steer' mario around. What in the FUCK were they thinking? I know you could change it, but all the control schemes sucked
>mario 64 had a good art style
>start the game as Yoshi
...
literally this.
Although, I heard all-stars was still good. I never had it.
All-Stars's SMB1 and SMBLL both have fucked up physics where you go upwards instead of downwards after breaking a block
Someone made a patch and script so you can emulate with analog controls, but it includes physics and mechanics changes the guy is using for his romhack, so I wouldn't recommend it yet. Hopefully he'll make a more vanilla friendly version soon.
Do people honestly think the original Mario 64 looked good?
...
This. Fucking Lego rooms.
Link?
I never once had an issue with the controls using the d-pad, who the fuck actually used the stylus controls?
Pic unrelated right?
It could have been a great remake, but the lack of proper joystick functionality really hurt it.
...
I prefer the remake of the original n64 game imo. More characters, more stars, minigames and better graphics(artstyle wise).
Anybody here play the hell out of the ds download play mode with people.
Here you go.

Ignore the unfitting music. The download is in the description, just click the highlighted "Controls Hack" when you open the forum thread.
>ruined the artstyle of the original
the fuck? it used a different art style than the original. The original is fully intact. what is wrong with you?
proof that nintenfags are delusional
should have used

Did people really fucking use the stylus? I used the d-pad
DOOM 2016
As much as I am in love with that game, the enemy design, and the design of Hell itself, pale in comparison to the visceral and surreal designs of the original.
Wrong. 64DS brought the art style to the standard of the series in general.
If it had analog controls it'd be really great. Everything else about the game is superior. People get buttburt over a sea creature being remodeled. It's such an absurd thing to dismiss an entire game off of some sloppy remodels when the game has more content, expands playstyles through characters, and adds portability without compromising on performance.
The controls are hard to get over though.
All fan-remakes ever have worse art than the original, but the people who make it always think that it's a massive improvement.
Updated visuals were nice, but the other changes felt stupid.
ctrl f "color" (and also "colour" in case britfags), nothing.
the colors are what was bad about this; the remade textures are washed out and ugly. the character models are better.
having to hold a button down to run was also bad.
>having to hold a button down to run was also bad.
That's bad in every Mario game that has it
Do remasters count?
Mario 64 DS' multiplayer was pretty dope. Only official instance of 3d Mario multiplayer.
Nah, there's a reason for it in the 2D ones. But in SM64DS, no way, you're running most of the time and only have to go slow sometimes so it should have been run by default.
That's bad in every game that has it. Especially when it's the stick.
Also the shitty dubstep music. Couldn't they just get Trent Reznor to do the music again? I'm sure it would be easier now that less people care about NIN.
Why did they do this? The hard shading looks amazing.
I don't know about you, but I've *never* wanted to walk in any 2D Mario, even when I'm doing precision platforming.
Retardation
>the remade textures are washed out and ugly. the character models are better.
They were washed out to cope with the shit backlighting of the DS. A lot of GBA games did the same shit, especially for the OG GBA.
Wouldn't that mean they'd have to brighten the colors, not make them more dull?
Great, now some asshole is going to come in and defend WWHD, despite it looking like shit.
They did brighten them.
Trent is off winning Oscars. He's too big for games now.
But the remake looks much better user.
This. I hated playing as that faggot.
get out newfag
looking back on things this is actually a decent piece of music
Wii U looks better
...
>you used the stylus on the touchscreen to 'steer' mario around
what? you use the dpad, what are you smoking?
If you wanted analog control you needed to use the touchscreen
Why did they turn Jim into black Junpei?
I'm more concerned about Gore turning into Mr. Clean.
But OC GBA had no backlight and the DS backlight was fine. There are dark horror games for the DS that are readable and there are plenty of games with vivid, appealing and not washed out colors like the Ouendan/EBA games.
I think the remaster and the cell shaded versions both look really good.
Right looks better
Are you kidding? It would have been a great game if the controls didn't suck.
64 looked like ass. Let's not lie to ourselves.
DS' colors are a million times better. 64 was eye-raping, garish primaries straight outta the default colors of MS Paint.
DS Nessie>64 Nessie
t. brainlet
...
Right looks better.
>Right looks better.
Right is N64
Not only that
>hats in the worlds make changing characters pointless
>butchered the power up system
>most of the new stars are boring "collect all silver stars" shit
>minimap ruins exploration
>not many new worlds to explore
>no reason to switch characters besides power ups
>Luigi breaks the game
>Wario is useless
The mini games were great though, part of me wishes it was its own game because it was obvious Mario 64 wasn't made with multiple playable characters in mind.
I know.
>those enemy spawns
Absolutely disgusting.
Don’t reply to me
Allstars has such amateurish ugly spritework with no artistic vision behind it beyond 'give SMB1 more pixels'. Compare to SMW and it's obvious.
...
The original Hell was just so much brighter, hell the entire game was very colorful which was great.
this nigga never paused the game apparently
>game has bloom
>it looks like there is a supernova in the background
It's so hard to find a game that does it right, I can't even stare at BOTW for too long without feeling uncomfortable.
Ok.
All-stars has the best art style of any 2D Mario. You only like the original because it's """"classic""""
I think that the original Super Mario 64 is the definitive version, but I also think that Super Mario 64 DS is a good alternative that should be played after if you're looking for more content.
As for the original Super Mario 64, there are two versions in Japan; the launch version and the later release with Rumble Pak support. Some people are purists and only play the original unlocalized v1.0 of the game, while others prefer the final version of the game as the "complete" experience.
Look it up on Youtube and compare stage 1 on PS1 to stage 1 on Wii. Disgustingly bland color use in the remake.
Is that supposed to prove him wrong?
...
...
Yes, SM64 looked and still looks incredible.
...
Not a remake, and not really outright "ruined", but ever since Puyo Puyo 7 fucked up the art hard the Fever-15th style when they switched art directors the artstyle of the series has definitely been growing more generic with each game.
Chronicles was a fucking abomination, though.
I mean...its alright but I wouldnt go that far
Is this the bad redesign thread?
I would, for a game released in 1996 the visuals are nothing short of amazing.
Wow, did I have a stroke?
What I meant to say is that the art director for Fever-15th left, and 7 was the first Sega-produced game without her. 7 looked like shit, so they shifted the artstyle to something vastly less interesting than Fever-15th. Christ.
Also, for pic related, Sun/Yo~n were made by the company that owned the series before SEGA.
Nigger, you what? Mario 64 looked like shit, even at the time. Look at Crash Bandicoot, for fuck's sake.
>emulated
Even though I agree that it looks good, posting a non-console screenshot is blatant lying about how the game looks
>for a game released in 1996 the visuals are nothing short of amazing
>he said, posting a screenshot of an emulator with a widescreen/high-resolution hack on
I only played the remake briefly. Besides the minigames looking different, and meta knight mode, what's changed?
...
You call that ruined?
You are like little baby
Watch this
Obligatory
KILL IT
The enemies look alright but everything else is just
You mean standardized NSMB garbage. Odyssey already proved that you can have the original 64 designs without making them NSMB shit
And a character who just completely got shafted by the art shift.
