Is there something holding you at the moment? I'm having trouble finding something that I can sink my teeth into.
Something has to be on the horizon right? Something that even though it may be mediocre it will hold attention for a little bit just because its new
maybe one of the kickstarter mmos will pull through who knows
hows the landscape of mmos looking to you all?
what do you think can improve things?
do you have hope for the future?

I think WoW killed the genre by killing every other competitor. Like blizzard killed RTS and arpg.
Michael Peterson
There are plenty of other alternatives and I think 2018+ is gonna be a real game changer for the MMO genre
Aiden Smith
wow classic

When a 15 years old game causes more stir than any new release, you know the state of MMOs is beyond saving. Perhaps in 5~10 years, where we'll have the technology that will reduce the cost of development, then the genre might be revived.

I want a game tailored for roleplay. it's legitimately the only thing I can think of that consistently keeps these kinds of games interesting
Raids grow stale quickly- dungeons even more so
questing is boring as fuck in most games unless they're really well written, and even then it's just filler for end game raids
it's the escapism that people want, but can't put their finger on- being a character in some fantastical world.
but literally nobody is making games tailored for it because it's such an abstract thing
Jose Murphy
I admire your optimism
Jace Torres
lol you fucking nerd. ERPing as dark elf tranny wont make your life any better.
Logan Bennett
i'll play classic and have minor hopes for ashes.
Nolan Sanders
you probably wont believe me but I dont even care for erp, user
I just like experiencing a fantasy setting through a character and the interactions that character has
William Campbell
I fucking hate action MMOs and hope they die in a god damn fire.
Nolan Wood
ESO and The Old Republic are actually really good now. Swtor is effectively a single player game but the group content is easy. ESO is on another level however. Tamerial Unlimited is not a meme, it's the future of MMOs. WoW might even try it.
I find it funny how great these games are despite being shit at launch. The only caveat is you need to subscribe for both. Swtor you only need to do it once to unlock everything, including expansions - forever. ESO is almost unplayable without a subscription due to the bag space.
Chase Stewart
>Pantheon Will likely be good but janky and autistic as fuck, and played exclusively by actually autists
>Crowfall Will be a breath of fresh air, polished, and fun, but has a niche appeal
>AoC Will either end up like Star Citizen or will actually end up as something new and special, odds are the latter. It looks like it's making really nice progress.
>Camelot Unchained Will be a poorly made meme game.
>Chronicles of Elyria Will be another half-baked, shitty pseudo sandbox
>WoW: Classic Vanilla was shit and people only like it for nostalgia reasons
Mason Scott
ESO is underrated and forward-thinking,
SWOTR is still just a technically awful WoW clone trying to be a CRPG, limited by the fact that it's still an MMO.
Carter Baker
>everything is shit except for this game I like
You are shit.
Nolan Miller
Problem is everyone looks at WoW and essentially wants that in a different package. That's not even going into numbers which are unfeasible in this day and age when online scene is so fragmented. Quality of the community is far more important than ability to roll a dungeon finder and being able to do a dungeon in 10 seconds, or at least that should be the case.
Anthony Roberts
3 of those are positive opinions. How could I like a game that isn't even out yet? I'm just giving my analysis as an MMO fan. I'll end up playing Crowfall most likely. I want Pantheon to e good but I doubt the team has the money/playerbase/technical chops to make it polished. AoC will either be a failure or will be an enjoyable action MMO with some unique ideas everyone else will steal.
Hudson Taylor
It's still on the right track in terms of being not just an ARPG with a 3D camera. The dialogue and ability to actually role-play is nice. The gear system, easy and fast progression, having your own ship. If they manage to implement systems and concepts that merge the role play and multiplayer, it could be great. They need more sandbox elements. Perhaps move towards some EVE-lite type ideas.
Jackson Adams
I think there will be a MMO renaissance when some dev finds a way to blend some of the survival games we've seen recently with the more traditional MMO setting and playstyle. Games like Ark can be incredibly fun and comfy, but they are far too punishing when a 500 chinaman strong tribe wrecks your shit in the middle of the night.
Someone needs to figure out how to blend the best part of open world survival games with MMOs. That's the next step.
Thomas Foster
dungeons are for five players
Ryan Watson
Also it's ironic how scaling enemies is the bane of singleplayer Elder Scrolls but is amazing in the MMO. The scale and way content progresses is key to it working.
Gabriel Jones
You may wanna look at Elder Scrolls Online.
Nathan Clark
EPOCH is pretty great
Brandon Hughes
Genre is dead until VR MMOs happen and that'll be years from now if ever. Sandbox style will probably come back with them though.
Jackson Roberts
Are any of these games actually being released anytime soon?
Angel Gray
That's why I'm interested in Ashes of Creation.
It's got zones like WoW or whatever, but the zones are each like mini sandboxes in and of themselves. The zones can be leveled up from uninhabited to fully-developed, with different content at each stage. The problem is that only a certain number of zones can be maxed out, which will apparently lead to PvP conflict as people will fight to ransack a maxed out zone in order to de-level it and allow another zone to reach max in its place.
Henry Ramirez
what is releasing in 2018? until then i’m just going to stick to my ffxiv and archeage private servers
Aiden Allen
i hate themebox and tab targeting, and hope they die in a fire
Gabriel Lopez
MMOs are like adventure games in that they're going to get sucked up into every other genre.
I mean fuck, even this years Call of Duty has a big third-person hubzone with a ton of players where you can talk and dance, play minigames, take dailies, and shit like that.
In the future, every game will be like PSO.
Easton Garcia

Should I get into Meridian 59? I've heard stories about it and want to experience it, but I'm afraid that time has long passed.
