Battle realms

I just remembered this out of fuckin nowhere
god I want RTS to be great again

Who were you playing? Who was best?
>lotus here
>wolf second
fuck serpent and dragon

literally balista men

Serpent Clan. Shinja was my nigga, mass musketeers with scope my army. Lotus clan second, and in my opinion gets the prize for the most creepy faction in the history of rts.

I liked the Serpent. They had the best theme in the game and their units were more fun than Dragon while still being relatively conventional.

>BR 2 died in it's infancy
>BR remaster never came out on steam despite promises
Why does God hate them so much?

The best song is serpent theme, though.

I really liked how boss Serpent Kenji was in the campaign.

I think it would work better if he was cunning and pragmatic instead of full retard evil.

...

>lotus edgelord
>not beinh decimated by a ton of dragon archers or wolves

>idle Kabuki warriors start juggling fireballs, which entertains peasants and makes them work faster
>powder keg cannoneers throw salt around them (like sumo fighters do), giving magic resist to other units
There were so many cool little secondary abilities in the game. Only Wolf clan had none, cause they had built in HP regeneration.

>the steam remaster was supposed to have working multiplayer and a ladder
There is no justice in this world.

this thread makes me happy and sad at the same time...
not many games do that to me

Back then I didn't really understand shit so I just spammed kabuki warriors and their flash thingy with cannoneer mines

there was so much love and detail to BR
>meanwhile in 2017

To be fair the game was awful with explaining its own mechanics. Don't think even the manual give you some stats of the units. I never really knew which units did how much damage, were resistent to what or had how much hp. Also apparently there are many plain wrong descriptions of abilities.

I used to only play Lotus and spam masses of Warlocks. I also loved their hero dude that started a thunderstorm on the entire map, watering rice and summoning lightning at the enemies.

It was simply unlucky enough to be released right around the time WC3 came out.

The manual did explain their abilities, resistances and counters though.

>the feels

For the Serpent
Would 1v1 the ai, destroy all its shit except for a few peasants and a hut, then station a bunch of Ninja to watch over the village being rebuilt before eventually raiding it again

That reminded me how persistent AI was with rebuilding it's shit in the campaign. Every time you think you destroyed it's base some shitty peasant ran away and put down a hut somewhere else. I hated that shit.

Still surprised Feng Zhu was the main artist.
This game was so unique.

My brother did this to me when we were playing multiplayer, had his peasants enacting guerrilla warfare after I destroyed his main village.
Eventually got me cause I kept sending all my boys out to hunt down his huts

Guerilla warfare was great in this game in general, considering you can burn the buildings and rice. I loved the little ninja dudes Serpent had, they did no damage, but were fast as fuck and could set an entire base aflame in a second.

...

Battle realms was the one that had a samurai with an aura, right?

I also remember a faction where you could summon 3 dead(?) Brothers(?) Or something to that effect

>that glitch where you attack the water and generate unlimited yingyang shit
Good times

Yeah, that's the one. The Lotus brothers gain stamina when fighting and can use it to grant your units various upgrades.

did somebody call for a raid on enemy base?
>who's a gud boooi

Crypt of the brothers, yep. Who was the samurai?

Had a whole troop of berserkers that you basically have to kill twice since they can turn into werewolves with full health.
Reading up on it again now though, I never realized you could further bless the werewolf

Fucker has more weaknesses than an aids ridden leper.

Can you be more specific? There are normal Samurai - Dragon T3 units that commit sudoku upon death and do damage to enemies around them, there are Serpent Ronin, who fight with two swords and debuff enemies upon death and there are a few heroes who may or may not be Samurai.

>Ctrl + D D

I'll check em all out and report back. I think he was blue.

I used to say shit like, I really wish they would remaster [insert game here] and get it up to current standart without changing the game itself but everyone who tried fucked it up, right?

if they announced BR remaster or even BR2, I would probably expect failure

>[current year] is cruel

I dunno I think it kinda setups the serpent version of the betrayal and helps show how flawed Kenji is. Like in Dragon hes a nice guy and cares for the people but he gets justifiably called out several times for his obsession with Tarrant's orb especially when it starts hurting his clan as hes supposed to be their leader. Serpent already has a pragmatic/cunning leader with Shinja and even then he can still be likable. Having Kenji go to the point where even loyal samurai question him and the local peasantry fear him helps differentiate him from Shinja's brand of serpent

I remember this game, but barely. Always had a soft spot for it though because stylistically it was almost 1:1 with Warcraft 3, and gameplay was pretty similar as well.

I always felt realms was more complex then wc3

>and gameplay was pretty similar as well
No, it wasn't Only if you think all rts are similar.

I'm referring to the fact that BR emphasized hero units and smaller armies as opposed to larger armies with no distinguishing units.

this alone gave me so much joy

BR doesn't have any hero units. And overall, the game plays nothing like WC3. It only uses the same exaggerated, vibrant, low-poly 3D artstyle.

The zen masters weren't hero units?

They're end game super-units. They get the same name but they're a completely different concept. Think Avatar of Khaine in Dawn of War. Super powerful, late game, can only have one, has abilities,...

People probably understand hero units as units that can gain levels and equipment. Technically they are just super units.

Serpent all the way. Boozing dens and whorehouses as far as the eye can see... plus Kenji got a bitching pistol too.

time to replay

aren't they making a sequel?

>he doesn't know

>That glitch where the hotkey for destroying a building works when you've selected an ENEMY building.

Let's just say the game was over when I got my first ninja out.

i don't, all i remember is an article stating that they are working on a sequel but that was some time ago

Canceled due to lack of funds, and focus on porting a remaster of BR to Steam. Which subsequently has gone quiet after running into issues porting.

Mobile game that got cancelled

When I think about this game I realize most of it's parts, graphics, complexity etc aren't too exceptional now. But thematically it still blows me away, something about a dead geisha leaking blood in a river while magical elements clash all around gets me.

I mean, you can call whatever as hero units.
C&C has the commandos, a completely random slightly more powerful unit.
AoM has units that are good against myth units. Could be a hero-ified villager for all they care.
WC2/SC has them as campaign-only upgraded version of real units.
WC3 has them as units that can level up, carry items and respawn when they die.

The term "hero unit" is ambiguous as it gets, but within the context user used as a point of comparison with WC3, it doesn't really make any sense.

Surprisingly enough it's still fairly popular in the Philippines. At least last I saw a few years ago nearly all the internet cafes still had the game installed.

Everything is dead, even the remaster of the original game.

>lack of funds
why not go to kickstarter?
>Mobile game
wew, fuck that

>When I think about this game I realize most of it's parts, graphics, complexity etc aren't too exceptional now.

The game died because it had a lot of issues, not because of WC3. Still, as far as the game concepts go, it is a prime candidate for a sequel which gives a hard look at what works and what doesn't to provide a great RTS to play.

Serpent master race reporting in

>why not go to kickstarter?
They did, right around the time they announced the sequel. But that's not what they were kickstarting - they wanted to make a hearthstone clone in BR universe. Their kickstarted failed and soon everything else died too.

I hope you all played the Lotr-battle realms

The stealth units were really fucked up in this one. It's strange, since BR had no such problems, dunno what inspired them to make them so insane.

oh, i actually remember being disappointed and not backing

what a bunch of morons

Barely remember anything, wasn't that great. It had a nice collection of units though.

Thats how the unclean one looks? Never wouldve guessed. Thought they looked were covered in oil or tar or something.

Gog gave away a copy I think, haven't downloaded it yet

philippino master race confirmed

I love this game as a kid. Something about it's aestethics and feel that was really unique. Sadly can't find a living torrent of it anywhere right now.

Anyone got a Mega download link for the GOG version?
