I like MvCI but I haven't been playing online because of the Dante spam. Not that I even mind that, it's just not fun and there's no point in taking a dump on my win/lose ratio when there's a confirmed fix in a few days.
I kind of hope there aren't so many characters. I think the amount it has now is okay, and after season 2 DLC it will be perfect. MvC2 and 3 needed a shitton of characters because it was 3v3 - it also made characters less important because you spent less time on average playing each of your selections. Now with only two, you have to get good with both. I really don't think the game needs over 46 or even 50 characters. Do they really need to put in Star Lord when there's Rocket, Gamora AND Thanos repping GotG? Who honestly wants to play Green Goblin over Spider-Man or Venom? Why bother putting Doctor Doom in with no Fantastic 4 characters? Why two Marvel ladies? Can Lady really be called a "Capcom All-Star"? Vergil, Regina, Akuma and Gene, for sure. But Lady? Plus, I guarantee that even when all the X-Men are in people will still complain that they're not good.
