I'm thinking about getting a Switch so I can play bing bing wahoo.

Is there anything I should know? Are their different models? Do different machines have different storage (ie. GB)?

>Are their different models?
>*there

they have different colored joycons

Just avoid the autistic neon colors and you should be good OP.

Put tempered glass to protect against scratches, the plastic screen will never shatter but can get scratched easily if you aren't careful.

Also, Mario Kart 8 is a great game for 10-15 minutes of play in portable. It may have been on WiiU, but that game so far as the most playtime and that's competing with Zelda and Odyssey.

They all come with 30GB internal storage with the option to expand with MicroSD

It's all pretty straight forward. All the models are the same and come with the same shitty internal storage.

I'd recommend picking up the Mario bundle with an SD card while they are on sale, and an extra game.

Maybe a pro controller if you see yourself playing on the TV a lot

Same, I wanna get a switch too.

Splatoon, Zelda and Mario are the three games I want with Xenoblade 2 in december.

This an alright list for now?

All the different variations you've seen so for are purely cosmetic changes to the joycons (different colors). Different bundles have different pack-in titles, obviously. So far, they all have the same functionality and technical specifications.

In my opinion, the only game worth getting is bing bing, so if that turns you off, I'd wait if I were you.

grey is boring though

You need to play BotW

200gb SD card is $50 right now. I have a 128gb and still have 90 gigs left with around 10 digital games so that should hold you for quite a while.

Those are the best 3 games on the system. Splatoon is goty

Thanks for the responses guys.

That was awesome.

Really? That's small. Guess I'll be buying physical games instead of digital.

Mario Kart is one of the games I want.

I also really want to play Mario Maker, will it ever get ported?

I'd love for Mario Maker and Art Academy to come with switch, but they don't ship with a stylus, so who knows if they'd ever bring them over because of that fact.

mario red is currently the best. not boring gray but not loud like the neon ones

Shit that's a good point.

Is the Switch tablet touch screen?

I really hope they do a port/sequel to Mario Maker. The WiiU was more perfectly suited to that game so there will be a couple compromises, but they shouldn't be too bad. And there's still lots of stuff they can add and improve upon.

Yes, those 4 games will keep you busy for a long while.

I would add Mario + Rabbids onto the list too, it was a really surprisingly great game with a lot of love and care gone into it.

Yeah it is and there are some touch games for it. Rayman has an entire mode that uses it exclusively, but you'll definitely want a stylus for it. Any phone stylus works.

Don't expect "Innovation" or "Open World Perfection 10/10" from zelda. Its just another empty sandbox thats fun for the first third or so of its content.
Don't expect a zelda game either.
Mario is great tho

Just bought one on the black friday deal which comes with Mario. Bruh, YEEEET

is there any particular sequence of things to do when setting up a new switch? like should i charge it fully before turning it on?

why would there be

pretty sure you can just start playing. games might have updates though

I wouldn't say it was perfect but it was a very compelling world to explore, the towns/villages were comfy, the shrines were good puzzles, the divine beasts were cool as fuck (I'm inside this fucking huge machine and I'm controlling bits of it sick) and I wanted to explore every nook and cranny of Hyrule. Definitely worth playing.

Is the Switch region free? Might want to get the Japanese version of Zelda.

No need. Zelda has Japanese voices for English versions. It is region free though.

The english version has dual audio options.

or you can just make a japanese account on your switch to play BotW in japanese.

Yo OP, if you're still here get at least a 128gb SD card if you want to have your games digitally stored in you switch. The platform itself in theory is able to support up to 2tb SD cards but we're nowhere near that limit yet.

The villages were comfy as hell, and controlling divine beasts was pretty cool but that was only a fraction of content in the game.
I never felt compelled to explore after I realized i was never going to get a reward that wasn't a fourth of a stamina upgrade or heart
Weapons were never a reward either because they will either break in 15 minutes or sit in my inventory forever waiting for an optimal time to use them that never came and because of that it feels like the combat system discourages fighting.
Finding collectables was boring, there were way too many, and shrines were usually very simple and as I said before, there was never an interesting or unique reward. The divine beasts are basically megashrines consisting of about 4-5 normal shrines worth of content in it that doesn't ever get complex enough to call a dungeon.
I can understand why people would like this game but I can't agree with it being compelling to spend large amounts of time in, and don't understand the 10/10 praise and being heralded as a break in modern day open world sandboxes when it was basically just that of what every other open world has been in the past, collectables and busy work.
I miss dungeons and progression in tools and items :(

>It is region free though.
Is that something Nintendo can get rid of with an update?

I don't see why they would want to when it's been advertised as region free from the start.

If I buy only physical when possible, will a 64gb be good enough for a while for indies and VC titles? I bought one yesterday during a sale. It's already shipped but I'm wondering if I should've gotten the 128gb on instead. I didn't think I'd need much storage but now I'm having second thoughts.

i literally just bought a switch with those 3 games.

are you me?

>or you can just make a japanese account on your switch to play BotW in japanese.
Can you actually play it in Japanese? I don't just mean the voices but the text as well.

I'd say 64GB is fine for that. If you ever need to upgrade the SD card in the future, it's as easy as just copy/pasting the files from one SD to another.

Are these SD cards official Nintendo products? Which brand should I get?

Just buy any SD card from a reputable seller that's a good price.
Samsung, Sandisk, Kingston, etc.

if the game supports Japanese, then yes. the eshop lets you know what languages are supported for each game.

That's cool, so if I get a pal version of BOTW I can change the language to Japanese in the options?

I'm pretty sure the language options are just for audio. If you want the text in Japanese too, you'll need the Japanese version. However, you can just make a JP account alongside your other account and access the JP eshop just like that.

you just change the language in system settings

>However, you can just make a JP account alongside your other account and access the JP eshop just like that.
So BOTW is on the eShop? I can just make a Japanese account and download it digitially?

If they did, there would be a ton of pissed off customers and potential for lawsuit when people can no longer play the things they payed for.

>if you want the text in Japanese too, you'll need the Japanese version
no, you can have the english version. all you need is to change the the language to japanese in the Switch's system settings and use a japanese account when playing the game.

KINO

Best content from here since MurdochMurdoch

They're all the same base model 32gb. Only difference is that you're getting newer firmware already on the thing if you buy a new one.

Best Buy had some great deals for micro sd cards. Picked up a 128gb sdxc micro for $50.

Ah, the Switch langauge, not the game. Does this work for other games as well?

Nah, all the same. Get a good bundle (with Odyssey or Splatoon or MK8D depending on what you like).

I can only recommend three things:
1. A tempered glass (like amFilm or w/e the name is) screen protector. You won't even notice it's there, it's fucking amazing.
2. The pro controller is really good.
3. It's black friday so while you're at it buy yourself a cheap good 128gb or even higher sd card, dirt cheap but very useful

optional: get a lan adapter, I use my old wii's lan adapter (that I also used with the wiiu) and it just werks. but wifi is fine too.

see

thanks

128GB micro SD cards are $30 on Amazon

I would second this, got all those acessories for my Switch and then some... but those bundles come with digital copies and I'm a physical fag. Not sure if OP is the same way.

OP if you're getting physical, get one of those game card cases. I got yhe official 24 game card case and it's 1/3 full already. If you're getting an extra set of joy cons, get the Nyko grip, it's better than the official power grip.

I know and am kicking my ass over it. Well I can always refund, haven't opened the package yet.

200gb for 50 bucks on Newegg.

no, the weapon system in in was great. Finally a game that does survival mechanics right

Don't

Wait for the holiday direct to see if it's worth the investment

>mainline zelda
>mainline mario
>xenoblade 2
>splatoon 2
>fire emblem warriors
>all in the first year
>still need proof of investment

you people are insufferable, there hasn't been a console with this many good games in its first year since the dawn of fucking consoles

So just to verify, I can play the Japanese version of BOTW, with a PAL copy of BOTW, if I change the Switch's language to Japanese and use a Japanese account?

Those are literally the 1st party allstar line-up. It's way better than alright

Can anyone recommend any lesser known switch titles? I'm gonna save some time before buying stuff like Mario and Zelda but wouldn't mind picking up another game to play, already have Bomberman since it was on sale.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is pretty good, maybe you can find it cheap?

I think you shouldn't habe problems as tbe NSTC/PAL conversion only happens out of the dock and the Switch is region free - you set your region in the settings. I think all game cards are the same. DLC may be region locked bit I'm not entirely sure.

Golf Story

There should just be an option to switch language in the options menu.

Check out the eshop. I'm not sure if you can do it online but there is a pretty good amount of smaller cheap titles

Golf Story is exclusive. I found Steamworld Dig 2 a lit of fun but it's not exclusive if that's what you're asking for.

I've been eyeing that one, it's on sale throughout the weekend at most retailers but I'll probably just grab that on the eshop

Golf Story looks nice, gonna consider that one as well

I browsed through it a bit, figured I'd ask around for some good recommendations before digging through the eshop.
