Let's have a good ol' fashioned TECHNOLOGY/AI thread

I'll start with a bit of OC

Breath of the Wild general?

sure

Wow, it's literally nothing.

Show me another game with BotW's advanced interplay of physics, chemistry and enemy AI. You cannot.

Define chemistry. Physics are dime a dozen.

What am I supposed to be seeing in this slideshow?

...

GTAIV was fun to just run around and explore the map. The technology and physics are really fun. Has the PC port been updated to not run like shit?

>That ugly ass SSAO
I didn't even know GTA IV had that.

Would like to know this as well.
Is there seriously not a mod to increase general performance? PCGaming wiki isn't telling me anything useful.

It got updated ages ago, but most of the complaints came from pirates who never bothered downloading updated versions.

...

Someone has these crysis technology webms?

Actually bought GTA IV a week ago to replay it on PC.
Works and runs really well. Hell there aren't even any serious pop-ins!

Physics are still like they used to though. Some really weird car interactions. Had one moment where I slowly reverse my car into a shopping cart, and it immediately explodes.

That game is supposed to take place in America right? Why aren't the cops pumping Niko full of lead, esp. after pointing a firearm at them?

I wish more games did this, Battlefield kinda comes close.

I'll never understand how no other game did something similar.

battlefield bad company 1 was pretty good, the story mode was somehow good

just post the asterix one, I lost it

I like stories about this game's development
>devs create buildings that collapse immediately in-game
>have to bring in actual architects to teach the devs about structural support/integrity so shit doesn't just fall over

Too bad I'm a mustard.

This game got old quickly. Once you destroyed a single building, you knew how it happened all the time. Also it doesn't help how fucking awfully boring the vehicles are to drive, and how shit the missions are.

>Build building
>Falls apart because of your own physics system
>Have to learn proper architecture to build everything
probably bullshit though.

Consoles.

watch it, and you will know

yeah, it's quite medicore with a really boring open world that gets worse as you blow more of it up since it doesn't respawn. It was funny destroying bridges and seeing the traffic try to react though

Wasn't that game on consoles though?

user, i'm a bit slow on subjects like these, could you please explain to me how you recognized the SSAO?

it's literally the entire selling point of the Frostbite engine

also, destructible environments make level design a bitch. RFG quickly gets tiresome when you realize that all the missions go basically the same -- get a big heavy vehicle and lots of explosives and smash apart the nice place the devs clearly had something else intended for.

giving a player too much freedom can lead to them just getting focused on one activity/strategy and getting bored.

My only gripe with RFG is that metals don't bend at all.

this.
destructible environments, however very impressive for RF, are a bit different nowadays.

Just having everything destructible like that is just poor level design; some things have to remain indestructible to guarantee a certain type of gameplay

>destructible environments make level design a bitch
This. as much as I liked BC1 and 2, there came a point in rounds where the map was just a smoldering wreck. Dropping the roof on the MCOM was clever the first time, and annoying every single time after that.

It's pretty obvious in the darkness. It's what makes things "pop".

he's white duh

wow, you so(n)yboys sure are mad.

...

why is little onion running around :D

look at the surface of Niko and the corners

...

Shitting on an mmo is kind of weak though. When did an mmo have good animations?

You can see dark "aura's" around the boxes and the plank against the wall in the beginning of the webm and on the character models. Though you can see it on all the intersecting geometry.

...

Where's the technology bruh?

...

youtube.com/watch?v=HUujd3t1DD4

...

imagine a 30 minute build time every time you move a model and want to test
its a very tedious workflow
and isnt technologically viable realtime without baking on a large scale yet

FUCK wrong webm pls no ban
hory sheet

wanted to post this one

...

Movie accurate

>fidget spinning
woah epic technology

No you fucking moron it's amazing that a Nintendo game can do the same thing HL2 did 13 years ago get with the program

Since FFXI.

Yeah, but the point is still valid. The X has something like an RX570/580/GTX1050TI/1060 tier GPU in it, but the CPU is mobile trash running at half the clock rate of the average consumer desktop. My four year old laptop beats the shit out of the X in CPU performance, they're really lagging behind there.

It didn't, it's probably reshade or some shit

Did they delete all posts responding to the webm too?

I've seen this webm so many times and I STILL cannot stop laughing when the guy in the hood at the end does the gay little neck roll

Fuck me, Bioware

Got a source on that? I'd love to read it.

>the same thing HL2 did 13 years ago
wait what oh really?

>point weapon at cop's face
>he pulls out his sidearm
>doesn't shoot
>runs away
>cops stand around doing nothing

wow so realistic!

yep, apparently.

mine was deleted

and they banned me

FFXIV's animations are pretty reasonable in the 1% of cutscenes that actually have fully animated combat

youtube.com/watch?v=3VncgvkvQEo

That being said vast majority of "fights" in FFXIV are just

> Bad guy pulls out weapon
> Threatening_Music.mp3 plays
> Your character draws weapon
> Someone else runs in and draws a weapon in front of you
> Bad guy says a line, sheaths weapon and runs away
> Everyone else sheaths their weapons.

>this entire post

oh lol the mod reverted his decision and unbanned me.

praise the mods.

And this game is way younger than the star wars mmo

It was probably a warning

>the one cop that just vaults off the staircase and faceplants.

O-onion?

this
gta IV physics is top tier even better than 5, i remembered i killed someone when my car door flew

The original bug ridden piece of shit FFXIV was launched around the same time as SWTOR but even then I don' think it would matter at all if SWTOR was made this year, BW was still using the exact same canned animations in Andromeda and DA:I

>most of the technology in 4 and red dead never made it in 5
It was really disappointing

yeah 5 sucks

first it was a 2 day ban, then a warning

That actually is impressive. You can stack em high enough to have the game actually acknowledge you hiding in them.

how the fuck is this technology? you're using a fucking physics ability

I'm assuming it's just some line of sight stuff, not that the game actually knows you're in a pile of corpses

yeah, the amount of detail in the game is crazy.

check this out

So this... is the power... of technology...

Woah....

holy shit...

FFXIV had amazing cutscene animations, back when they had the budget for it.
youtu.be/NJT55T_nqss

I love that physics are now this revolutionary new thing that was never done before now that Nintendo has done it.

Part of the reason why FFXIV was so bad was that every single cutscene was fully animated.

youtube.com/watch?v=1h8TKeXk5eA

2.0 onwards uses a lot of pre-canned animations and sort of stitches them together. It's very rare to have a fully animated cutscene in FFXIV these days.

I mean that's what's impressive. The npcs are apparently solid objects that enemies can't see through which seems to be a pretty consistent oversight.

Holy fucking shit.

>2.0 onwards uses a lot of pre-canned animations and sort of stitches them together.
Yeah this exactly. The cutscenes now mostly use already existing combat animations and emotes. They hardly have anything unique.

People don't realize that games don't do things like that anymore. Except for botw actually.

t. pcfag

>the only difference is that one is hazier
the draw distance and LoD is the same in both tho??? the lighting is just different, the top is a clear day seemingly at lunch time and the bottom is a hazy morning

Hah, never noticed this. The webm, not the greentext.

Dead Rising 3 is something special to me.

They fixed that in V. Now even animals report crimes and cops teleport to you to arrest you with lead bullets.

...

youtube.com/watch?v=rQLIr5vUuOs

The nuke mods in Crysis are always great because its not pre-scripted, it is just the way the physics will interact with explosions.

except you can literally walk to those areas in ArmA 3 whereas Uncharted just displays them, you can't go there, nothing is there.

>Want to play GTAIV
>Not the shitty console versions though
>Supposedly not compatible with Windows 10 at all

You know, I was really opposed to this game when it first started coming out but now that it's finished or "season 1" of it is, it's really spectacular how much love and attention to detail they had the time to put into each massive level because it was released episodically.

And to make it more accurate to L.A, nobody fucking indicates anymore either.

>People don't realize that games don't do things like that anymore. Except for botw actually.
I am aware it doesn't make it more impressive suddenly because no one else does it.

Name literally one other game that does this.

I'll wait patiently.
