I did like that they gave Cloud an English voice and made Lucina and Dark Pit into alts.

Any project m clone that doesnt follow the design philosophy of the original PM is not, and never will be, considered a true spiritual successor to PM.

PM 1.0 removed most of the characters in the game and balanced the game around them, then added characters back as the project developed. This allowed for the devs to make a game thats balanced around a dynamic of 8 characters, then design the rest of the characters under a similar philosophy while remaining diverse.

A PM clone needs to do this, in spite of the initial alienating factors.

so is this neos thing not competively viable, then? smash4 and melee are pretty different, but that doesn't mean you have to start from scratch because people may not like it.

who's the dev? do they show signs of self awareness? With hindsight, PM starting off with a smaller cast was obviously the smart choice.

You're going to come out with a considerably less polished demo/early game if you start off with a fuckton of characters.

Putting 3 months worth of work into 8 characters vs 50 characters, you'll be spreading your characters thin for the latter. Project M was successful and polished because of how much effort was put into each individual character. Project M lucario, lucas, snake, ivysaur, etc would not have been a thing if they started 1.0 with every single character.
