Problem with disasters like this is they happen when you let business call the shots. At some point during monetization someone who actually PLAYS video games needs to be involved as the tenth man, so to speak. When they come to the final conclusion of how many hours it would take to unlock heroes through legit play someone should have stood up and said "are you fucking insane?" or something along those lines.

If you try doing anything but what they specifically tell you to do you will fail most of the missions immediately. Like, combat is not only forced in that you can't progress until you beat some dudes but often you have to beat them with a very specific move of you autolose.

It's pretty hard to get worse when you have hit rock bottom anyways.
