>Various player anecdotes talk about seeing experience numbers pop up, but the progress bar filling at different rates. After reaching the level cap of 20 (soon to be 25 with the release of Curse of Osiris), each additional level up grants players a Bright Engram. These engrams act as Destiny 2’s loot boxes, giving players various sought after cosmetic items like emotes, ships, and sparrows.
>According to the various posts on Reddit, the displayed numbers on the screen wouldn’t change, but the actual gained experience would shrink with repeated activities
tl:dr: Players would be told they are earning X amount of EXP on screen, but the actual number is throttled lower depending on how much they play. When a player begins playing, they earn lootboxes through leveling quickly, then the more players play, the less EXP they earn to encourage players to purchase lootboxes instead of grinding for long periods of time.
After being caught, Bungie QUICKLY releases an announcement that they are changing to system.
>throttle EXP That's literally just making the grind and you're stupid enough to buy lootboxes because you can't bother to just level up, why bother?
Ryan Miller
Fucking shitters. The game is OK and the loot grind kinda addictive for a while, but the nice graphics are paid for by having fucking tube levels.
Daniel Torres
the whole establishment is going down boys
Brandon Edwards
just don’t buy them, loot boxes or the games that abuse them, one less player to try and bait whales and dolphins into playing with and spending their money plus hose games are usually shit anyways
Jack Stewart
>still buying AAA games stop
Jacob Perry
hmmmm, what did he mean by this?
Unironically enough, nobody really cares about the lootboxes in this game, it has major issues and they ain't talking shit about them.
Benjamin Allen
Everyone who made Halo left, and the company is now activision’s seasonal cocksleeve.
Charles White
why the fuck do melee weapons use up ammo?
Evan Ortiz
>no source hmmm
Brody Powell
Why do people keep lying about this? You can look it up, they are still there.
Jose King
Why? Why wouldn't you just make the numbers higher? Warframe just makes absurd grinds and no one cares. People that want to do it faster pay up and people that just want to play, play. Throttling grind is the quickest way to get your player base to quit, since theory crafting to min/max your time is the hallmark of the hardcore RPG'er. Just more proof that lootboxes are cancer and the best system is just to purchase shit directly if you really can't dedicate time to it. But they know the actual game doesn't have anything to hold peoples attention, so they have to delay them getting the shit they want as much as they can.
Carson Green
try watching the credits or googling one by one all this names if you really care about it.
Andrew Morris
They stop caring after Halo 3
Adam Anderson
It was clear they cared a lot for Reach, but keep pushing this narrative because you didn't like the games after 3.
Isaac Morales
>throttle exp Oh cry me a river. If grinding for exp in Destiny is enough to trigger you, then mmorpg's would just break you and make you its bitch.
Nicholas Cook
>Why wouldn't you just make the numbers higher? Because it's a scam. Bungie was literally just caught in a scam. They WANTED players to think they were earning the same amount of exp as before, then make them just get tired of the grind and purchase lootboxes instead. If they didn't have the throttle in place, players would just be swimming in lootboxes without a reason to use actual money on them.
They could have done the smart thing and just be transparent about it, but they wanted to get away with a scam.
Carson Ramirez
It's the same garbage as with SWBF2, it's apparently unreasonable to expect players to play the game for ~10hrs to unlock Darth Vader. From an MMO perspective, it's hilarious to think this is too long to unlock anything.
Jacob Green
Because the game is so shallow they need to artificially prolong the "grind" to last more than 3, 4 weeks at best.
I'm not fucking kidding, you can grind all the characters to 305 LL (maximum level), do all the end-game activities and hard mode include in less than fucking 100 hours, try 70-80 hours if you no life it.
Its absurd, Destiny 1 was shallow too to most MMO standards, but Destiny 2 is a joke, a very bad joke.
Lucas Cooper
>Hey Bungie, we don't bloom, please remove it or add an option to reduce it >lmao that's impossible (even though 343 did it a week after receiving rights) >Hey Bungie, Arena sucks, 1-50 was better >lmao retards just play Halo 3 if you dont like it!!!! >Hey Bungie, the story of the campaign doesn't make sense, as it completely contradicts Fall of Reach >lmao games >>> books dummy who cares??!?! Bungie went full retard with Reach
Alexander Hernandez
>bungie >listening to their fanbase >ever They're the western Sakurai.
Julian Anderson
>cared cared about killing the series with their shitty Destiny test beds, keep pushing that narrative that Bungie were a great studio. Halo 2 sucked and they didn't want to make any more Halo games past the first, I'm surprised Halo 3 turned out so good.
Adam Robinson
>patch the game and claim xp has been fixed >still lies about xp displayed on screen
Aaron Parker
Meanwhile Blizzard regularly listens uncritically to gamer feedback and gets criticized for fucking their games up because surprise, gamers have no idea about game design. You can't win either way.
Alexander Nguyen
Because they use it for power attacks, you can use them without ammo but they don't do as much damage.
Isaac Perez
basically there are this things called "powerful engrams" and those things give you loot that have more power than you currently have, and the joke is that the normal loot is ALWAYS turned do 5-10 levels below you, so you need to wait for every weekly reset to obtain those powerful engrams again (because you can only get them once per week from some activities)
its in-fucking-insane the amount of hoops the devs went thru to create false sense of grind.
Brayden Wright
Bungie shills have to defend their favorite company, it happened with Halo 2, ODST, and Reach and it's happening now. Got to justify that purchase.
Luis Price
I thought beating the campaign pretty much made you max level.
Jace King
actually the Halo games after H2 were shit
Jose Walker
>Encourage Players to Buy Lootboxes
There's literally nothing worth spending real money for unless you want a emote.
Wyatt Powell
Halo reach and four were amazing games. Halo 5 was ok. Halo odst was ok. Why do people claim halo was terrible after 3? There isn't a bad game in the series.
John Adams
>tfw I actually liked destiny >hate this game
Henry Evans
You realize nobody is complaining about the exp values themselves, right? It's about the deception of showing a +7000 exp pop up but secretly only getting 500.
Angel Butler
They didn't learn from Destiny. Instead of making a ton of legendary and exotic gear to give players reasons to grind and collect shit, they made it more gay and less fun and put out the same amount of gear. They're fucking retarded.
Jack Sanchez
Bungie always added dumb shit as experiments. Remember equipment?
Kevin King
Who cares? The majority of the game occurs after levelling
Anthony Baker
You don't pay $60 just to play warframe
Zachary Wilson
>Why do people keep lying about this? Because it fits their narrative. Same reason people can't stop lying about political issues, they are literally incapable of examining things from an objective point of view.
Jordan Gomez
Yeah, but since they were map pickups I didn't really care.
Kayden Roberts
I always felt suspicious of how weird it can start to get more grindy than usual. Then again, I swore never to fuck with the shop once Jim sterling pointed out how insidious the bright Engram shop really was by forcing you to go to the shop but not really forcing you to go to the shop, just make you pass by and tempt you but by bit.
I swear to Christ, publishers is the wrong title for companies like EA and Activision, they’re running their games like fucking casinos on top of being incapable of doing the things they’re suppose to do properly like marketing and funding a game recklessly enough where they have to set games to have to sell a certain amount of millions of copies to break even. Idk if this is just them being evil or stupidity
Landon Perez
LOOTBOXES.
I WANT THAT EXOTIC BIKE THAT GOES SLIGHTLY FASTERDAMNIT.
Camden Perry
They're still the same concept as armor abilities. It was just expanded upon in Reach.
James Watson
Bright engrams rewards are so shitty I'm surprised to hear people are willing to grind XP and levels for them. This is literally a non-issue.
Gavin Rivera
Hey, I just got a death threat from some no life troll over lootboxes. Pls buy more to support me.
David Jenkins
>Encourage Players Except people only mass bought those in day one, i haven't seen any spam from Eververse ever since
Dominic Taylor
>These guys made halo, what happened? They didn't make Halo. Microsoft Game Studios made the Halo FPS and wrote the story. FASA games made the multiplayer and created the matchmaking system every game today uses. MS just licensed the Bungie studio to get their hands on the IP and engine. If you ever watched the original Halo 2 documentary, before the game came out, it shows how ruthlessly incompetent the Bungie devs were and how MS Game Studios and FASA had to be redirected as resources to Bungie to make their game happen.
Jose King
>buying games with microtransactions Eat shit scum. Stop discussing this garbage.
Julian Wright
>thinking a single studio or company made the Halo franchise
No, idiot, PEOPLE made the Halo franchise. People that could have left, been promoted, or just gotten lazy over time.
"""Bungie"""" is just a name. That's all it'll ever be.
Nicholas Moore
Good thing I didn’t buy this trash game
Dylan Smith
>Bungie caught throttling EXP >yfw you'd never be caught playing any of their garbage games anywau
Justin Hernandez
I see no reason for anyone to buy the boxes since there's only cosmetic shit there Bright engrams are worthless anyway once you get a 160 speed sparrow, and I've gotten 4 without paying a dime
Matthew Campbell
>I actually liked destiny Why?
Lincoln Torres
And made worse in Reach.
Joshua Hill
yeah they are cosmetics, sometimes you get weapon and armor mods but the game literally shower the players with them because they are worthless
The thing is, players are desperate for some form of real grind, so this happened.
Juan Moore
Didn't they have the idea for halo before the worked for microsoft? Wasn't it gonna be on mac?
Joshua Barnes
They're so unobtrusive in game compared to something like Hearthstone it's ridiculous. You have to actually seek out an NPC that isn't marked unless you use the HUD.
Justin Miller
Are you trying to tell me that Bungie has always decreased in quality?
Levi Lopez
Nobody is complaining about the exp values in relation to actually leveling up. They're complaining because lying about received exp values by throttling them serves to try and make players buy lootboxes. You can get fucked up to 95% of the experience you should be receiving.
Benjamin Cruz
>bungie in 2017 LUL
Jason Perry
The sad truth is that microtransactions are explicitly designed to counteract the 'vote with your wallet' consumer strategy.
A small number of whales will provide the majority of the game's revenue stream, and people who boycott such games would never have been whales in the first place.
Justin James
>Didn't they have the idea for halo before the worked for microsoft? Wasn't it gonna be on mac? It was a 3rd person top down RTS before Microsoft acquired Bungie for MAC.
Matthew Walker
nothing happened, they still try to turn videogames into utter shit just like before
Dominic Torres
why would someone ever play a multiplayer game with a progression system if it's not an mmo?
Nicholas Sullivan
but lootboxes don't even matter in this game
Adam Williams
This makes sense, I heard Microsoft was the reason Halo CE turned out so good. It seems Microsoft is stepping in again for 343 with Halo 6.
Eli Ramirez
You're acting like anyone in this thread has even played the game
Juan James
Yes, the only time that didn't happen was Halo 3 because Halo 2 was so shit, I'm surprised Halo 2 turned out as well as it did but I'm pretty sure just like the first game, it was because of Microsoft.
Brandon Allen
sounds like we need to legalize whale hunting again
Christian Scott
I mean I still think it warrants a discussion, and is a pretty shitty thing to do.
Brandon Anderson
Feel free to call me a shill but I wouldn't be surprised to see that this is because of players not paying attention to the well rested bonus that only lasts three lavels a week or not knowing about the Fireteam medallion bonus only lasting four hours. I also wouldn't be surprised to see nu-Bungie pulling this shit considering how much they lied about the game back in D1 about various mechanics. Despite expecting nothing but garbage they've managed to disappoint me at every turn with Destiny 2.
Matthew Wright
I played it
Justin Cook
If you haven't played it, you wouldn't be aware how irrelevant lootboxes are to Destiny 2 anyway. At least pick a target with an egregious use of lootboxes like SWBF2 otherwise it just undermines your argument. Even Hearthstone is more predatory
Kevin Powell
>playing bungie games after destiny
Nathaniel Sanchez
343 & 434 studios (multiplayer and singleplayer teams) are actually primarily comprised of the original MS Game Studios & FASA teams that were pulled to create Halo 1-3 & ODST. The problem is MS keeps bringing on outside lore masters and writers who don't give a shit about Halo or the extended universe.
Halo has and always will be produced like a movie, around the script and cut-scenes. If that is shit then the game will be shit. Not much has changed in terms of the core gameplay after-all.
Oliver Evans
Actually what we need to do is have something like the IRS step in and demand higher taxes for this sort of double dipping.
There's nobody scarier than a tax collector who is under the impression someone is cheating, and given that microtransactions avoid sales taxes...
Grayson Jones
That is why you just shouldn't buy them. I am not talking about ignoring microtransactions, I am talking about not buying shit games. Leave them to "whales", who gives a shit? Stop bumping this tread.
Jeremiah Walker
Participating in a thread and getting angry about a game without having played it
Adrian Campbell
>don't like it don't play it >can't say shit if you haven't played it
you see the problem with this logic right?
Nathan Cooper
Wrong, it was a shooter while still being advertised for Mac.
>the name of the development team (343 + 434) literally says "777" >classic slot machine icon >ignoring signs You only had to watch.
Luke Peterson
I see what he's getting at, and I guess that argument would play well with casual console fps scum, but damn. It's a pretty ignorant statement considering fps controls are a total joke on controller for anyone with a decent amount of pc experience. Halo, Destiny, and CoD were the driving forces dumbing down fps games into something completely unrecognizable, and now we have pubg with all the oldschool stuff back in action, and it's the most popular thing around. It's like aaa game designers just want to eat shit.
Easton Cruz
You don't understand. You not buying these shit games doesn't matter, the whales DO buy them and it is they alone that allow the shit game to be profitable.
Just look at mobile trash. "Ignore them and they'll go away", Sup Forums said. Then Windows 10 came along, which tried to make PC's into mobile trash, and now we have microtransactions in AAA titles like Battlefront 2 and Shadow of War (which reviewers claim to be actually okay games, only made shit by microtransactions).
This is the new normal if enough noise isn't made. Thankfully we don't need to do something as ridiculous as GG this time; we just need to start calling Senators, say something to the effect of "Muh kids are being taught gamblin' by these games", and let the pieces fall into place from there.
Noah Bailey
Whales won't buy shit if no one is playing the game with them.
Colton Peterson
Jaime Griesemer does not work at bungo anymore, why would anyone believe any of this list.
Easton Edwards
The sad thing about Destiny is that the devs were clearly extremely hyped about working on something other than Halo for once.
I was flabbergasted when it turned out to be completely generic science-fantasy trash. What gets me the most is I can barely tell the enemies apart. How did they fuck up basic character design?
Adrian Hughes
True but recently there has been a change in direction at 343. They are now putting the lore in the Phoenix Logs as shown in Halo Wars 2, and putting the focus back on the Master Chief, they've been promoting the hell out of Master Chief, Cortana, Flood, and Halo rings again and are even looking into dropping the squad gameplay and using the art style from HW2. The fact that Microsoft hasn't said anything about the next Halo outing says something. I wish people knew this about Halo's history instead praising Bungie like they're the second coming of Jesus. They didn't even know where to go with the Forerunners and Microsoft had to step in with that in Halo 3 with the Terminals.
Oliver Myers
Very interesting posts. I didnt know MS pretty much carried Bungie for Halo
William Lopez
But Halo 3 was worse than 2 in every way but the bugfixes.
Nathaniel Howard
>You not buying these shit games doesn't matter If they are shit games anyway then who cares
Isaac Cooper
>Wrong, it was a shooter while still being advertised for Mac. FALSE it was originally an RTS long before it was adapted to a shooter. The 3rd person shooter changes began once Bungie started talks with Microsoft: youtube.com/watch?v=RN9vO_gRzoI
And the actual Halo Combat Evolved you played was a game originally called The Spectre created by MS Game Studios. The projects were merged when Bungie signed a contract with Microsoft.
William Rogers
So they spend several thousand dollars in a few months, then move on to the next meme cashgrab.
Sounds like the current gaming market already.
Charles Bell
First, this Second, if you can't do shit, ignore it. Why you are even discussing that garbage? You are not going to play it and you can't do anything to change the system because idiots fuel it.
Why bother?
Wyatt James
Glad your guys' whining is benefiting me for once; been waiting a decade.
Jordan Perez
Reach multiplayer was solid. The story was just subpar except the ending to it.
