There's a lot to love about the game, but it's all buried under the baffling design decisions that turn playing into a chore. Who thought it was a fun idea to reset my progress whenever I save? That's exactly what saving is supposed to prevent. I think the game is mainly popular for its "dark" story, but there are plenty of other games (even in the Zelda series) that do it better.

how is the 3ds port?
Benjamin Peterson
terrible and casualized.

Great and fixes all the problems with the original

Some things are better, some things are worse. There's really no definitive version, just whichever is more convenient for you.

literally nothing wrong with it
Adam Peterson
there is A LOT wrong with it:
-For some reason deku has incredibly slow acceleration which makes any movement as deku, especially across lily pads, very painful -Ice arrows are now next to useless -Zora Swimming is awful, why do I have to blow all my magic to move fast. -The boss fight changes are all bad -Odolwa and Goht just feel like slower, more scripted and more limited versions of the old fights. -Gyorg new 2nd phase is sort of interesting, but the first phase is now nothing but "look in the water and shoot" which isn't very fun -Twinmold is the worst offender. The only purpose of the blue mold now is just to be the easy kill for the new donkey kong mask (which btw is also dumb, sword >>>>> punching) so it feels much more like "red mold with a blue mold cameo". Then the red mold takes forever because he has some stupid amount of HP. Feels like a very tedious fight the first time. -You get the Bomber's Notebook automatically after you go back time for the 1st time, from the mask salesman. -The bombers notebook coming up with a 5-10 second notification every time you complete one single task, HOLY SHIT this is annoying. If it was quicker it wouldn't be much of a problem, but the fast that it forces you to sit there for several seconds so often is just awful.
Overall still a great game just because its MM but some of the changes can be pretty irritating.

You're being very superficial user. Take off the nostalgia goggles.

Hey, want to know something interesting? A lot of the buzzwords that get tossed around here actually DO have meaning, so misusing those words kind of outs you as someone who needs to lurk moar

Majora's mask has the atmospheric depth of a creepypasta.
>WHAT IF CHILDISH THING >WAS SCARY THING?!?!?!
woah, so deep and scary. /sarcasm. They took the childish, fun aesthetics from a better game (Ocarina of Time, all the assets are ripped straight from it) and tried to make it deep by adding a surface level apocalyptic scenario.
It's shit. It's always been shit. The time mechanic was a neat gimmick but anyone who elevates it above that played it when they were a kid and are incapable of impartial judgement.
Sebastian King
If you've never played the original, played it so long ago that you really don't remember it, or you're simply not a screaming autist, the 3DS version is fine.
Henry Bell
The swimming changes are fucking rage inducing. Good fucking luck getting past the temple in which you have to race through several underwater gates. Other than that it's fine.
Robert Martin
>/sarcasm good bait up until this point but you made it a little too obvious

>bosses altered to not be killed with just the sword, but can feel less tedious as a result (having to take off Goron mask to shoot Goht, making Gyorg eat bombs, wrestling Twinmold) >Deku Link's spin takes longer to start up so it makes water hopping kind of annoying >no way to turn off Bomber's Notebook alerts On the other hand >sped up Goron Link's attacks which look stupid but makes him able to hit things >Song of Double Time lets you pick a specific time so you aren't just standing around waiting for NPCs or events >new (albeit short) sidequest involving the Gorman brothers >better inventory management >consistent framerate I think Zora swimming requiring magic is fine because now magic and Chateau Romani aren't as useless. The new fishing ponds are actually pretty neat since there are weird special fish you can only obtain doing certain things with certain masks. Also gyro aiming makes the shooting galleries and minigames more enjoyable.
HW moon looks like shit.

>that projection i didnt even say which one was better.
Wyatt Garcia
I agree fully with this list. Fuck the remake. I sincerely regret pre-ordering the special edition. Think up proper arguments. It's okay to have buyers remorse or just being plain bad at videogames so the 3DS version is more suited towards you. Whats not okay is lying about it.
Evan Foster
Pretty autistic post

Nice. Love the lack of argument and anime reaction images. Glad to have people like you in this discussion forum where you contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation. Brilliant.

If you dislike some misapplied adjective, why use it with lazy safeguard quotation marks?

Nice they added fishing holes but other than that the original is better

Name some. Name some games that have better world-building and atmosphere than Majora's Mask.
Thomas Young
You can slow time and reset, giving you much more leeway with your descision and path through the three-day period. You can skip time as well. You're not forced to do everything in the time limit, and the limit isn't really a limit, but a guide to what can occur. You can't really lose as even after running out of time, you simply restart in the clock tower. Funny how one of the best Zelda games conceived in only a year albeit with reused assets gets the most shit thrown at it.
The 3DS remake ruins a lot of things that made the original great, already pointed out in the thread and makes an already manageable system even more casual with skipping around to any point in the game, ruining the sense of satisfaction doing every event perfectly. You may as well have a "You Win!" button installed.
Same with OoT3D, I chose not to buy it and keep the original at hand to play.
Jonathan Jones
>Same with OoT3D but the only thing OoT3D did wrong was having the game be too bright.
Jose Barnes
It made an already easy game easier with those hint stones, I believe they were and added nothing new. No new dungeons, areas, nothing that made SM64DS worth buying.
Jaxson Morales
I still remember flipping through the book over over again, the art style was awesome.
Evan Sanchez
>It made an already easy game easier with those hint stones which are completely optional it included master quest actually mirrored and a boss rush. and it doesn't run like dog shit.
David Martinez
Don't care, those are an insult to any gamer with respect. And I already played Master Quest, I don't feel the need to play it again reversed and boss rushes aren't anything new. Again, nothing new that could pull in the consumer.
Ethan Gray
>nothing new that could pull the consumer >makes the whole thing about himself and how he already played it this isn't about you
Samuel Young
Considering the time it came out it did an amazing job at setting the mood.
Having the moon constantly hover over you reminding you of the limited time you had left was brilliant.
Re-using assets was because of time restraints but it also made it more impactful, seeing recognizable characters in a new way. The game assumed the majority of the playerbase had already played OOT which was correct 99% of the time.
Seeing an adult Malon getting her sister drunk to make her oblivous to the fact that they were just about to die struck close to home, at least it did for me.
The moment that struck the biggest chord with me was the opening, with the main character we know as a hero was completely stripped of his humanity and made powerless by this sinister being. Link was powerless when Skull Kid stole his trusted companion Epona from him and turned him into a creature. All for Skull Kids enjoyment.
Playing Majora's Mask was a completely different experience compared to the lighthearted adventure that was Ocarina of Time
Julian Turner
>baffling design decisions that turn playing into a chore
That's because you're a casual.
I think it was a cool challenge to be forced to be more careful about time and to have to start over multiple times to complete a side quest.
Bentley Morales
Yeah, how dare I give my viewpoint based on my own tastes and desires.
