Save us Vulkan!
Almost 2018
take a hike to Sup Forums ya shmuck
Once virtualization allows high performance GPU passthrough and that the whole thing works well this would be much less of a problem.
Even without that, yeah ideally multiple OSes could be supported easily using common APIs. If definitively could have been done but it didn't happen yet. If one of the console manufacturers decided to sort of open up their APIs as something that PCs could support it could make a big difference.
Or make backward compatibility a big problems on PCs as well as older versions of the API stop being supported (like it often happens with each generation of console).
Dunno about you but I play vidya on my GNU/Linux box pretty much every day.
What games?
I too enjoy having to frankenstein every installation together through Wine and then play it all in cinematic 5 FPS until it crashes 10 minutes later.
DOOM
CS:GO
Anything that runs in mame or mednafen. Don't really care much about games made for PC but the last ones I went through on that was Fallout 2 and Thief 2 on wine, oh and Sanic Mania.
I too enjoy making up fabrications to besmirch any opposition to my wonderful Windows.
Hail Bill Gates! Hail proprietary anti-user software! Hail corporate bootlicking!
>y-year of the Linux desktop guys! just you wait and see...
Ubuntu 16.04 here. I tried many drivers for my 660m and the framerate drops to 1fps after few minutes always. I also have screen tearing. I wish graphics worked better on GNU/Linux.
nVidia actually has some new project where they want to collect enough user feedback to actually put out some usable drivers for Linux.
Ultimately it all comes down to the developers to optimize their games for other OS though.
If it's so good, why isn't it mainstream?
The problem with Linux is it has a massively opinionated elitist userbase so they will never make user serviceable software.
Open source is great if you are a developer and shit if you are anyone else.
It's also shit if you are a developer that just needs something that works.
I suspect it's not only the driver problem, I know for experience than in the Linux kernel itself there happen to be issues with GPU, like when CUDA didn't work because of kernel bug and it was that time when the famous "fuck you Nvidia" was said by Torvalds related to Optimus support. Even though I'm an open source enthusiast, I kind of accepted the fact that games will always work better on Windows. This is the main reason I dual boot.
Look faggots, I'll swap to fucking Linux when I can just click shit and don't have to DUDE COMMAND LINES everything.
Bro I hate windows but I'm gonna lie and say *nix gaming is there yet.
Sigh.
>Computers are preinstalled with windows to get that OEM dosh. A way for microsoft to keep customers in their ecosystem
>General public consensus isn't swayed unless microsoft completely ruins windows. Just look at windows 10. Even that isn't enough.
Personally I have done some converting with my close relatives and it has worked well. Too bad some of them are hardcore windows fans. They even own windows phones. Have a look at pic related on how botched together the windows code base is. The reason why every creators update breaks something.
/autistic rant
But you don't. You'd know that if you had actually used any ubuntu derivate.
