Playing old school vidya

>playing old school vidya
>realize how much modern video games have casualized me

I feel like it's the exact opposite way around
Playing older games has made me realize how modern games have taught me not to put up with old-school bullshit.

I can't play any RPG made before 2005 for that reason. Fuck grinding, fuck unskippable cutscenes, and FUCK having to scour the entire fucking map looking for the next objective.

Yeah rpgs tend to age poorly, but that's because the gameplay in almost all RPGs is complete shit
Grinding isn't bad if the gameplay is enjoyable, and not being able to skip a cutscene is fine if it's done well.

Newer games are filled with grinding, unskippable cutscenes, and scouring the map for the next collectible loot box

Baldurs Gate Series? Icewind Dale etc.?

At least that's what I think of when you say "old-school" RPGs.

Literally nothing of what you said applies to them.

Also there's also literally nothing fucking wrong with Gothic I.

What an unfortunate looking person.

go back to neogaf

>Fuck grinding

New rpgs are the one with grinding now.

sorry your favorite genre is only good for plot

sorry your dad is a premature ejaculator

It's not even just RPG's. There's a lot of things in action games that I really don't miss at all.

>shitty camera in the vast majority of games whereas today it's about 50/50 between perfect and sort of janky
>autosaving not being standard and having the potential to fuck your save file when it was there, e.g. by soft-locking you into an unwinnable scenario
>storing tons of physical carts/CD's instead of having a digital library
>collectathon/metroidvania-style bullshit where they stick a progression-critical item or path in some completely nonsensical place with zero hints or suggestions at its existence in a previous level, trying to force you to buy a strategy guide or something
>lives in games where they do literally nothing except kick you back to the main menu and make you walk through the hub world for five minutes instead of just going straight to retrying the challenge
>having to play the single player mode for 10+ hours to unlock the good multiplayer content

There's shit I miss like arcade-style games and score attacking and shit, but there's a lot of stuff from the N64/Win95 era that really fucking sucked, even in otherwise-good games.

go. back. to. neogaf

>exact opposite way around
>describes the exactly what OP is talking about

lol you pwned that guy XD

Same here. Replaying Warrior Within right now and I honestly suck ass, keep getting my ass whopped in combat and this game wasn't even regarded as diffucult back then

Not. An. Argument.

>play ape escape torment
>equip gear
>model doesn't change
>uninstall
fuk

Score attack is alive and well

I think my reaction time got dulled honestly. I'm not even that old, I'm 23. I don't think as fast as I did when I was younger. This worries me.

>try to replay Republic Commando because of nostalgia
>get assraped on normal mode before even leaving Geonosis
What the fuck, I don't remember it being this hardcore

>tfw the majority of this board is in the same boat as you
We should have never stopped complaining about casuals.

>Play an old game
>Forgot it doesn't autosave every 30 seconds
>Lose all my progress
I only have myself to blame.

Every single turn based RPG (Videogame) is complete shit.

Dear god, how have I never seen this before? The architecture of the universe has never been so plainly visible to human eyes.

Something only a true namby pamby casual would say.

Weakest insult I've seen on the site by far you trog

>Play Megaman Legends 2
>Get a game over at the first boss

Bet you don't know all the events leading to loss happened in order to reflect a similar situation someone actually important went through, it was such a powerful moment in history that it willed itself into existence.

>play Fallout 1 just fine
>can't get into 2 for the life of me

This pretty much. Not just for RPGs but for FPS as well.

haha damn op ur rite u kno, its good to kno we got tons of good, solid, meaty thinkers on this board who aren't afraid to make a good thread every once in a while u kno?!?!?!?
