How do you choose your character's names Sup Forums? If you want it to be lore-friendly on an MMO it's so hard.

I choose whatever sounds like a cock joke
Combine race and class and make it a joke or pun. Otherwise it's a parody of another name.
Haha you're soooooo funny user!
I unironically use name randomizers
Example of names:
Shaman - Rubblerouser
Death Knight - BorealBrain
Warlock - Impmolestor
Demon Hunter - Flaycharles
Male: Alexander, Alex, Jack, John, Matthew, Io
Female: Alexandra, Alessandra, Jack, Liara
Unless there is a racial, cultural, other theme I can go off of. That's what I usually run with.
I just choose a name from the list of names I like. They work for anything.
Games like Demon's, Dark, etc, I always choose, Siegfried. Always loved him in SoulCal.
Anything else, I don't really care. I'm usually playing a SP game anyways. So it's just the characters name.
cringe
if you are that much of an RPer you need to fucking die
Shitposting.
You need to be 18+ to post here, kiddo.
I am 20, I am guessing you are a mid 30s man that is very fat and lives a sad life
t. Gnomercy
>Play Orc
>Stub my toe
>Add noun+adjective at the end
>Works every time
If it's a series, I base if off of NPCs that were in other entries but not in the one I'm playing.
I always just look up names of ancient gods and goddesses. Always works.
>t. puts numbers and symbols in his names
Same name in every game.
I just make noises till I come up with something I like
Literally the first thing that comes into my mind. More so stuff to make people laugh. Had a warrior named bowflexabs on WoW
I just choose a military rank and add a fruit or vegetable at the end.
this but i do [adjective] [animal name]
examples of ones that I have/use
Stealthy Turkey, Sly Tuna, etc.
I name all of my characters after obscure historical figures.
The name is the LAST part of a character, so let's assume we already know race, class, gender, etc.
Open up a wiki or find some other way to get a list of names for NPCs of that same race, get a feel for the names (their ethnic origin, rules for apostrophes, general length, etc), and then make it up from there. Sometimes I'll splice 2-3 names that exist if I'm lazy.
I personally think anyone who plays an RPG with a name like "MegaBlaster" or "Dennis73" or whatever should be shot.
For example?
>Use your real name
>Take your real name and switch some letters
>Make up a descriptive name like Quickhands or Pale Eyes.
>Take a historical name and switch some letters
>Use a nonsense word like Fedango, Grimp, Tobbles, Mondrake or Shub.
My last character was name Adorf Hortler.
> I personally think anyone who plays an RPG with a name like "MegaBlaster" or "Dennis73" or whatever should be shot
I agree
>>t. puts numbers and symbols in his names
"Hey healer, that guy over there, XxXNuubkillaXxX329... Fuck it. Let him die."
I do the same, and in the process slowly accrue a list of names I like enough to use across multiple games. Most good fantasy names transfer quite easily (maybe with a little tweaking) to pretty much any other fantasy setting so those are pretty easy, my mage's name in Morrowind becomes my mage's name in WoW and so forth. Sometimes I get stumped though if one of those names doesn't fit a character or setting I'm not familiar with so it can take hours for me to name my fucking character and actually play the game. But that's fine since there's nothing worse than finding you hate your character's name five hours in, it's good to be sure.
Baberaham Lincoln
so much this
"Help us Ex Ex Ex Cock Luvr Sixty-Nine Ex Ex Ex! You're our only hope!"
>"Help us Ex Ex Ex Cock Luvr Sixty-Nine Ex Ex Ex! You're our only hope!"
Like, we got gooks on the wire or a horde of skeletons breathing down our necks and you expect me to figure out what to call you? There's enough problems already.
I use Abrahamo Lincolni
From books I read. Last character I named was Sijaki.
I literally name my guy Jimmy for all and any games I can get away with.
google translate a word or two into latin and then apply the normal roman naming stuff
Cochese Peregrinatio. I've been playing with the same name and as similar a general persona for about a decade now, to the point where it might be a clinical psychiatric problem.
I choose the name I'd go with if I was Japanese. It's also the name of one of my favorite video game composers, protagonist, and manga artist.
If name is just an identifier or handle for the game, then usually call myself after a food. I get a kick out of getting "you made me hungry you fucker" messages, or sometimes I get together with mates and we take on a theme.
But if I have to name a character, I usually go with either the letters of my first or last name and then choose something setting appropriate.
Why'd you pick a name that sounds like it belongs on an Italian Restaurant's menu?
Because a character should be a little spicy.
Cochese's fathers' name is Boyardee whenever it's not made clear elsewhere.
I do this but with alliteration added.
Bastard Buffalo(Tank)
Handsome Hedgehog(Tank)
Manic Mongoose(DPS)
Obscure Osprey(Ranged DPS)
Hallowed Heron(Healer/support)
I'll usually name my character after folk-lore, mythical heroes and gods, Astrological symbols and just Fantasy-ish names, followed by a title if it fits.
>Arthur, the Brave
>Rodrick, the Nimble
>Erren, of [lore friendly country]
>Atlas, the Burdened
>Braveheart, Leo
Character limits are usually generous enough to give me something good, but in the even I can't fit anything decent I drop the title.
you always go with alliteration?
That's neat desu
I roll with one of these.
Sc3 sieg best sieg
My god that man is fucking majestic
Depends if it's a game where my chars name is visible to other people or not.
If it is, then I go for horrible joke names or shitty inside jokes to feel superior.
If not then I go for a select few names I always use or lore friendly ones and if I'm feeling lazy I use my internet nickname(s)
For generic fantasy I'll use old Frankish names that I picked up from CK2
I almost always just go with variations of "Tim".
Tim the Wizard
General Tim
Tim the destroyer of worlds
Tim the Godwoken
I am a simple man.
That's so epic hahahs
Shamelessly stolen from other games.
Currently, all my characters are from Skyrim, and it's probably going to be like that for awhile.
Usually I go with whatever is appropriate within the setting. In The Secret World, Champions Online, DCUO, and City of Heroes, all of which were modern 'real world' settings, that's pretty easy. Easier still with the super hero ones since weird names could be part of them being aliens or supernatural creatures or from other dimensions. (probably weirder is when you I play a super natural creature, I.E. a Fir Bolg and then give him a very mundane name: namely Tiger Brown)
in games like Guild Wars, GW2, FFXIV, and SWTOR, I normally try to stick with lore-friendly names but, I'll just shrug in some cases and sometimes make an excuse.
Like my Asura Engie in GW2 went by an obviously assumed name 'Celio' because his real name was 'Twatt', my charr necro was Foofy Fluffymane with the express explanations for these names being "their parents didn't love them at all"
In Star Wars' case, I went with the same sceheme as Star wars tends to, add punctuation marks to a normal name or even go with just what sounds cool. Like my Sith Purebloods were named after Xerxes and Gilgamesh, because ancient Persian/Babylonian names felt fitting for the Sith Purebloods and sounded cool.
(you)
With all the Tim combos I've done, I don't think I've ever done that one. I'll add it to the list.
I have a few standard nicknames I use for Internet stuff. Then once those run out, I just go down the MST3k Space Mutiny name list.
It's the one that always pops in my head. My roomate is named, Tim, and we quote it all the time.
I have a numbered list of all character names from Darkest Dungeon
I just pick a random number and roll with it
