I haven't played Xenoblade but other than EP1 which sold decently EP2/3 bombed pretty hard. The entire trilogy sold about as much as Xenogears by itself. Monolith probably wouldn't exist if they hadn't moved onto another series.

Yeah Takahashi pulled a George Lucas with Xenogears. EP4/6 came to fruition and it is probably safe to assume EP6 would be a sequel to Xenogears.

From what Takahashi has said it sounds like disc 2 was basically going to be Xenogears 2 but he didn't want to end the game at the end at end of disc 1.

I mean sure after what happened at EP3 we could have funny space adventures with the saga cast but honestly think they would bring in completely new characters.

Personally would like to find out why Deus in Gears was programmed to go to earth which is now in some space distortion or what it was.

Pretty much this. It would be a legal nightmare for Takahashi to make a proper EP4 or 6 because the rights are spread out between Bamco for Xenosaga and SE for Xenogears.

Fuck, Xenosaga is nothing but an AU version of what Xenosaga set up in its perfect works timeline, but that was somehow OK too despite squeenix's Gears rights.
I guess he could probably give it another go if he really wanted to, but I don't blame him for trying something else under the same banner. Personally I'd feel too fucking embarassed to risk a third failure at the same shit under yet another flag.
