I'm about to rev this bad boy up for the first time. Any tips for my adventure?
Also Dark Cloud 2 thread.

I remember enjoying the demo oft he first game, should I emulate them?
I can vouch for the first one being a good time.
don't look up any guides if you can help it.
Is it spooky like the first one. A lot of the enemies in the first one were very unsettling.
I hate the camera stuff so much that I stopped playing it. I love the first game though.
The first dungeon is kinda slow, but it picks up within the 2nd and goes into high gear in the third. Start taking pictures of everything once you get the camera when I was younger I used a guide book so I could invent everything Don't worry about your party members transformation, her ability is trash. The better you do in the world building section, the more shit you get for the dungeon crawling. They feed into each other heavily. Lastly, play the game the comfiest way you can, it makes a difference
Yes
Some monster designs are still off in a creepy way but it's less spooky
Take photos of fucking everything including bosses.
I have a hard time supporting that advice because it's not so fun to just randomly take pictures of shit and try to combine them for the better part of the hour.
I would suggest guide just for inventions but nothing else.
Hammers are better than wrenches
Take the time to 100% chapter 2 the gun you get for it is insane.
Monica is damn near useless and so is monster transform.
Look up a list of things you need to photograph, especially moments in bossfights.
It's rarely really an issue though I get what you mean. It sometimes feels like you really don't have control over the camera or at least minimum control .
>Monica is damn near useless
b-b-but she has a sword
Don't pay attention to the main story, it'll only make you mad
I can't replay this game anymore. My autism itches when I think about all the scoops I'm missing, but I don't want to look at a guide all the time.
>monica is useless
regardless, he shouldn't ignore her and leave her weapons underleveled. learned that the hard way
All you need to know is that there's a camera and there are moments or things usually during boss fights that you have to take a picture of or you'll miss them. Everything else is fun to discover on your own and you're more than capable of doing so, so ignore any other attempts at advice because more often than not people (including you by asking and seeking info before even starting the game you already have) will overstep their bounds without even realising it and end up dictating your playthrough.
You have to take pictures of every boss in the game, usually in the middle of an animation. If you do not do this you will miss the opportunity forever which could means you'll miss out on crafting recipes later on in the game.
If you don't want to use the robot it's not too bad, but it's retardedly strong so it's worth trying at least.
I should have probably specified that it's not something you have to actually look up, there's a list ingame given by a character that updates as you go and as you keep visiting him. Have fun it's a really good game.
This game is 90% photo simulator
Don't bother trying to figure out what's a photo and what's not, just look it up
Seriously it isn't worth it
Are you referring to that one boss fight where you HAVE to use her? Yeah that one fucked me over pretty hard too.
only use max for the first dungeon, after that use monica for everything, she's better in every way
Unless you're truly masochistic, don't think you're going to 100% it. It's one of my favorite games of all time, yet I can't complete the main story a second time because of the sheer amount of content. It has one of the best atmospheres of any game I've played and some of my favorite music. The invention system is pretty bullshit, since you can miss some pictures here and there, but most of what you miss isn't important in the slightest. If you're worried about missing a picture, there are concise spoiler free, chapter by chapter guides.
Also just red seal levels in general. I'm only up to chapter 3 but there was already a red seal level where all the enemies were fucking ridepod enemies and elephants. I had to search the whole level for rocks to throw because i had no attack items.
>Better in every way
>No laser gun
>No armor break hammer
>Shitty monster transform in stead of ridepod
Stop trolling him.
Don't neglect one charcter. Some rooms your forced to use one of them and if they're underleveled you're going to have a bad time
Everyone agrees the pics are bullshit and would forgive you for using a guide. For fucks sake if you upgrade without using pics on the ridepod you lose literally thousands that should be spent on a new core or armor and it takes a while to grind up with the robot.
yeah but she has a cat bikini
This is like the 4th Dark Cloud thread I've seen this week. Is there a sequel in the works or something? Is this all just an underground marketing campaign? Or is it all just some sort of memetic idea for people pick up /replay these games?
>Get jurak gun
>Simply can't stop playing max
It's too fucking good user my first play through I got this very late so i had no idea how much better it was than the regular upgrade path.
I was replaying it earlier this week and made some threads I guess a few anons saw it or were playing it again around the same time too.
I dunno what it is but I like it. I miss the good times I had with this games.
Perhaps a thread influenced my decision to pick this series up.
ITT: people give the best advice to ruin the game for a beginner. Op is fucked and also retarded.
How about this for advice, OP:
>pick game
>launch it
>play it
>have fun
>stop sucking cock
my money is on memetic idea. I've seen it popping up in 3x3 and old gem threads so it may be causing people to try it out, and then when people make threads about it to ask questions, more people get interested. It'll more likely happen if someone has seen the cover 3-4 times, I know i've been guilty of at least looking up a game if I see it talked about for a bit. It'll pass like a fad and no one will talk about it for weeks
Look up a guide on what you need to take photos of.
Although, there isn't anything -required-, there are a few things that are nice to be able to make.
Similarly with medals. Nothing needed comes from them, but some fun items (including Monica's panther bikini) come from them.
Gameplay wise, the human characters are about equal. The ride-pod can become the RAPE-pod, just don't enable the voice. And Monica's transformations are pretty underwhelming.
Generally, weapons can be leveled however you want. Though having a guide can also be useful. Max has basically 2 lines of wrenches and three types of guns.
Monica's armbands are pretty linear as well, but she has like 9,001 swords.
Max can also use hammers and they have a completely different move set and everything.
How bad is the Ridepod's voice?
>implying I didn't say the same thing with a little more tact
Do you really think all this is stuff he needs to know before he even starts the game? There really is a huge issue especially nowadays with people being far too eager to ask for info that is easily attained themselves and others being far too eager to give more info than they should and enable it.
>Level 5 will never be free to make an original game ever again.
It's a shame
Yes, but I'm a completionist asshole.
Yes.
GET READY FOR GOLF
prepare to take lot of pictures.
Guides exist for that if really necessary and they rarely are.
Be in a constant state of taking pictures of all things everywhere. Never take more than 3 steps without whipping out the camera and spinning in a circle wildly snapping pictures.
Remember, don't forget to take pictures of everything as you can possibly can.
Ignore all these other anons, pictures are all important for inventing things and realistically you won't need to unless you want extra shit
But you probably want extra shit because there's a LOT of shit you're missing out on if you don't take pictures.
this game has a lot of shit that's missable and can never be got if you go too far. including entire areas! just be careful.
this, it's my favorite RPG of all time but you really should use a guide as you play it jut to make sure you don't lock yourself out of shit, and the city building sections basically require a guide anyways
taking pictures of random shit in the hopes that they might be useful sounds like a pain in the ass, should i just use a guide for that specifically?
Yes honestly because it is.
>Spheda
>Balance Valley
why
What’s with all the Dark Cloud threads lately? Gets my dick hard
What other games have the weapon leveling/upgrading/evolving of Dark Cloud?
Monster Hunter is the closest thing I can think of.
you can do most of the game without inventing anything at all, just fumble with it for your first time
although I do recommend at least looking at a missable photo's list and getting those all
No, definitely look up for the missable photographs guide, since you have to take pictures on some bosses's special attack to use as high tier invention material.
LEGEND

Rogue Galaxy is similar, also made by Level-5
As most have said, guide for photos. Also, while Monica is not as useful as Max, you're going to put yourself into some tough spots if you don't dedicate some time and resources to her.
The game is not fun.
Should I just emulate the game or buy the remaster on PS4?
of all the niggers on this board, I wish for your death the most.
The only things that are missable are the boss scoops which only give extra item rewards with one being usable for a random invention, a photo you have over half the game to get and would get anyway, and like one HP increasing item that vanishes cause of a glitch when you would be looking for those all the time anyway.
It's not that difficult since almost everything qualifies and is relatively obvious outside of a few that would stand out by their nature anyway. You can look it up much later on if you really feel like you want to but the relaxing run through the town snapping stuff is nice.
Starlight Canyon is literally the best Spheda area, all those long distance valley shots feel so good.
The one on PS4 isn't really a remaster, but it is still better than emulating imo, I could never get the settings just right so that UI textures were okay and the cell shading also seemed a little weird on hardware mode and software mode runs slow as ass with no upscaling.
It's a fucking masterpiece, fucking around with the Georama and exploring dungeons and shit, it was tight
Just start playing it, you'll have a blast
>Sony has the ability to almost perfectly emulate PS2 games that still don't work on pc
And they let it go to waste, fuck them. And why the fuck can't my PS4 play PS1 games?
There's the Ash photo which can be easily missed forever if you didn't know it.
Balance valley just teaches you to stop wasting time and fucking buy mats in stock so you can make what ever you want without having to run around every 2 mins.
Also it's pretty cool that we just got to the same area. I'm just about to finish chapter 3 and I got to say fucking laser guns are the fucking shit. My moncia has gotten so weak she is literally holding weapon store stuff though so im a bit worried about her boss fight.
The monster transformations would be about passable if they levelled up 3 or 4 times as fast, and had twice the strength.
But it definitely seems like a last minute thing that absolutely no thought went into.
Soundtrack is pure kino
youtu.be
play a lot of spheda and get that leopard bikini for Monica, then fap your stress away
Take pictures of EVERYTHING. If you think its too unimportant, you're FUCKING wrong.
She looks hot as fuck in her Star leotard though. That's the reason I used her almost constantly.
>Rocket pods
Fuck they were fun to use. It's a shame they were useless in all but two of the maps.
Its fun though and you need them for the challenges anyway
The Gemrons are the best ones to use for those Monster Medal challenges
