Not just right now, but of all time.
Final Fantasy?
Dragon Quest?
Shin Megami Tensei?
Phantasy Star?
Dark Souls?

The newest Dragon Quest is pretty good desu
Dragon Quest hands down
Honorable mention to SMT
this
Demon fusion is a big draw for SMT with me.
Neptunia without doubt.
Honorable mentions to Ar Tonelico and Atelier.
Final Fantasy. Despite the fact it probably has the greatest amounts of blunders (II, XIII, XV), it has like the top five JRPGs of all time (IV, VI, VII, IX, and X) as well as having one of the best tactical RPGS, FFT.
DQ had laws passed to stop their games from destroying Japan, the other games can't compete
nice try lil weeb
>Neptunia and other ultra weeb trash
No Final Fantasy has ever gotten close to the top Dragon Quest games, like V, VI & VIII senpai.
And more often than not they are complete and total blunders.
FF ranges from average to unplayable, with a few good exceptions, but again, nothing like DQ VIII for example.
Well that really depends on how you define best. DQ and Pokémon are the most consistent, but they're consistently mediocre. FF probably had the highest highs, but also some of the lowest lows.
I'd probably go with Dark Souls. 2 was a blunder but it's still a decent game in the grand scheme of things. It's just a strong franchise all around.
I love how you didn't list VIII as a blunder.
Get fucked kiddo, your emo trash game is trash.
>Pokemon
I wouldn't call Pokemon a JRPG, not even a videogame.
It's more like a virtual babysitter for 8 year olds and mentally retarded 20+ year olds.
Fuck off to /vp/
>Pokémon are the most consistent
Consistently bad, yes. Platinum was good, BW2 was good, but everything else after Emerald was shit. Gen 1 was pretty shitty, too.
>I love how you didn't list VIII as a blunder.
It don't think its a good game, but I wouldn't call it a blunder. It has a lot of good stuff in it, but compared to 7 or 10, its bad.
Chrono Trigger as a single game blows every franchise out of the water for all time. If a franchise must be chosen then it has to be Final Fantasy, of course, although nothing after the ninth game is worth playing.
Gen 1 and maybe 2 are the only 2 gens worth playing.
The sprites look good for example.
And there's no trashcan pokemons.
And they aren't the 30th entry in the series with virtually no major changes in them.
SMT > DQ > DaS > PS >>>>>>>>> FF
Dragon Quest has the highest number of great games and the highest average quality among games overall, so it wins. 2nd would be SMT and a distant third for Final Fantasy, since it's a saga that lost its identity and it's been 16 fucking years since the last time they put out a decent game.
Why would you ever play gen 1 instead of FRLG? In my opinion, if you've played FRLG, Emerald, HGSS (Crystal is also fine) and BW2, you've gotten the best the series has to offer.
>Chrono Trigger as a single game blows every franchise out of the water for all time
literally hit A to win. CT is barely an RPG. It's a linear as fuck railroad through some enjoyable saturday morning cartoon scenarios with likeable characters, but it's so bare as far as gameplay and strategy goes. That's really the best of all time?
>nu-Sup Forums actually saying boring shit like DQ or FF
SaGa,Ys or Wild arms
Call of Duty
>DS
>JRPG
Metroid
Think about it.
SMT or Dragon Quest
Anything that can't be readily identified as a JRPG.
Why would i want something I like changed
The pokemon formula works and its the entire reason i play them
Look at FF where they try to reinvent the wheel every game and most people cant even agree about which titles they like
The one without random encounters
In terms of consistency, I'd say Dragon Quest.
