UK STILL WANTS TO COMBAT LOOTBOXES

gamasutra.com/view/news/310446/British_Gambling_Commission_worried_about_potential_risk_of_loot_boxes.php

TLDR: The UK Gambling Commission sees lootboxes as a “potential risk” to lootboxes and want to combat them, but they can’t due to Parliament’s legal definition of gambling. They do, however, want to get them to change the definition to apply to lootboxes.

Another blow to EA....

not just EA but also gacha shit and blizzard crap.

can't wait to see Sup Forums's butthurt when the government involvement they're clamoring for now starts to hurt the developers they actually like

Here's an unironic solution. Add parental controls and make them obvious they're there like Nintendo does, and work on a way to allow the blocking of stuff like that when the options are turned on by parents.

It's funny how even Sup Forums wants the government to take on the role of being a parent instead of wanting parents to do their one and only job which is watch their damn kids.

Isn’t government interference a small price to pay to see EA burn?

>he UK Gambling Commission sees lootboxes as a “potential risk” to lootboxes

I see

To add, I bring the whole kid thing up because that's all you're """upset""" about even though the last thing you guys seem to care about is children.

>Implying Parental Control is ever used

>Implying parents actually care about what their kids do in games.

WE DID IT REDDIT!

This isn't just about kids spending money when they shouldn't you mong

Content is being stagnated and then locked behind a paywall in an already full price game

>he
>government is male

What's it like being sexist?

No.
That's a pretty retarded way of looking at things. I can ignore EA's games and I'd suggest everyone else to do so as well. I don't really get anything out of EA being destroyed.

i like no companies which utilize lootboxes, i am safe

Kind of obvious that it doesn't just apply to EA. I was looking forward to Shadow of War, and it got changed to accommodate the loot boxes. And if it doesn't stop it'll spread.

...

Don’t you want to avenge Pandemic?

And Bioware?
And Vicseral?
And Westwood?

I don't think it's just children. Not regulating lootboxes as gambling opens up lootboxes to a load of psychological trickery and shenanigans that simply would not go if they were.
Altering payouts on the fly to keep the gambler hooked and shit like that.
Predatory Jewish practices.

is right, lootboxes are no laughing matter! I met this user whose little brother was turned into a toxic pickpocketing job-skipping lowlife by FIFA Ultimate Team!

This user is gonna come home one day to see his collection sold to CEX.

I see.

Yes, commemorate.
The government making "things right", working for the "common good" and standing "on the right side of history". What could go wrong?
Go ahead, seek the attention of politics. Turn your hobby into a political capital plantation. The more this lootbox conundrum goes mainstream, the more politics will want to farm the industry. And if there are no more conflicts, they will do what all efficient politicians do: they will create turmoil to benefit form it. What do you think identity politics is?
Right now it seems fine, but what will happen when diversity regulation comes to video games? Or laws demanding games to be labeled offensive or "wrongthink"? And whatever the ideologies behind laws and regulation, even if you may agree with them, they will inevitably increase the price of games, that's how regulations work. God only, or maybe the devil, knows how politics will milk gaming controversies and even create new ones.
You are just handing them the keys. It's a shoot in the foot.
Enjoy your brief and misleading victory. When the euphory is over, you will realize EA wasn't as terrible as the Gov. can be. They are not even in the same scale.
