It wasn't quite THAT bad. I remember a tower early on, and the bad guy asteroid at the end that were different. Optional stuff was very lazy looking, I agree.

2 is considered one of the best JRPGs ever.

Yeah, for the most part SO hasn't been much of a series to praise. But 2 was amazing when it came out. But honestly I feel like it hasn't aged well, and will take some determination to really enjoy. I feel like 3 will hold up better against aging, but I could be wrong. I just found the gameplay of 3 to be a lot more fun.

I spend some good fucking money on the whole boxset for Magna Carta. I loved how the game looked, but jesus christ the combat.

This game is just unbearable and I've seen my fair share of anime and played jrpgs. The characters are just so fucking awful, the terrible voiceacting, their mannerism.
And to top it all off, the combat is atrociously bad aswell. Fuck this game, why are they porting this.

Most of the data on those CDs is attributed to story text, video and audio, while anything considered general purpose is put on all discs.

Play 2, like everyone said, but make sure you play the PSX original and not the shitty PSP / PS4 remake.
