thanks

what game?

Majyuuou/King of Demons

Play old shmups

Ihave symphony of the night on my backlog. I tried the first 10 minutes just to try it out. I honestly don’t know where the fuck I was supposed to go but I wasn’t intending on starting it. Just wanted to see how it is. I have way too many games i started but never finished. Should I forget about it and just start it?

Its a fantastic game, just play it and only check up a guide if you get stuck.

Anyone who hasn't played through Symphony of the night should put everything else on hold until they've done so.

Alright. I am intimidated by all the passage ways it has but I’ll check the guides out like you tell me

The game is very well designed as well as having a competent map, you shouldn't have any worries going into it. Trust the game to not fuck you over and have fun with it, you only get to play games like this for the first time once.

Play Japanese games.
They're like retro games but actually still being made and have actual graphics and shit.

Play it, get lost in the game and avoid looking for guides to cheese the game with, here's a tip Some weapons you find have special abilities that can be activated by doing certain inputs, it's usually weapons that can be found by killing enemies or by exploring the castle, the inputs can be ↓ ↘ → + attack or ← → + attack

i regularly play games i never played when they came out and enjoy them greatly.

just because a game is old does not mean it is no longer fun, just modern games have had decades of previous attempts to get shit right and wrong.

visual complaint is valid but that is on a person to person perspective on if it makes a game unplayable or not.

>he says he's a comedian
>has no timing at all

the part where he believes a video game company owes its players money because they were playing the game and weren't rewarded had me rolling in laughter, so i'll give him that.

I can't because the Japanese fucking REFUSE to release them on PC! Do they fucking HATE free money?

God that's such a fucking garbage opinion I don't even know where to start.

OLD GAMES ARE NOT RETRO, THEY'RE JUST OLD

RETRO GAMES = GAMES LIKE ONIKEN

Nier and Nioh are on PC, and you can play Persona 5 on PC with a workaround.

PC is getting a shitton of japanese games in these days compared to 2000.

Then why is Sega keeping all their games off PC, unless quite a few years have passed?

i dont like retro games

I like new games, old games, and everything in between! Sometimes I even like new games that pretend to be old games. Right now I'm playing Dwarf Fortress and VS Super Mario Bros (going for high scorre)

SOYNYBROS, WHAT THE FUCK DO WE DO NOW

But I already do.

Am I the only one that likes playing older vidya to see the progression of a series, a genre or just seeing certain devs or composers develop their own style? I also dive in with the release year as a frame of reference so, while I can judge it from a modern standpoint, I can appreciate it for what it did while it was new.

Then again I just like vidya.

Bayonetta and Vanquish got on steam this year.

>unless quite a few years have passed?

You are still getting them at least, there are only a few devs left that refuse to make PC ports like Atlus.

No, I play vidya to explore the design ethos and technical wizardry relative to what was available at the time which means playing a lot of old vidya.

>6-7 years after consoles

Yay? What about Yakuza Zero, Kiwami, 6, Project Diva, Persona 5, Puyo Puyo Tetris, or even that shitty Azure Revolution? Why is VC4 coming to all platforms but PC?

I'm also interested in knowing about videogame history so i play games on pretty much every platform, god bless emulation.

oniken was a pretty good game.

So was odallus

>Want to play Severance Blade of Darkness really badly
>Discontinued on GOG because the game is incompatible with modern Windows
>None of the patches work on modern graphics cards
>All of the pirated versions crash at the intro

Trying to get an old PC game to work should not be this fucking hard!

...

Be glad that my pc friends can play fun games.

Playing old games on emulators makes life worth living.

>play mega man series
>can see both the progression and the regression all in one go

feels bad

here is a suggestion if you like run and guns:

go emulate the Neo Geo CD version of Metal Slug, it features a special mode unlocked once you play through the arcade mode once called the combat school where you do time attacks and a survival mode where you try and make it as far as you can without getting hit once.

Can't you just get an older gog installer?
You didn't install wangblows 10 against everyone's good advice, did you?

>I don't like when people want you to read classic old books
>I don't like when people want you to watch classic old films
>I don't like when people want you to listen to classic old music
>I don't like when people want you to look at classic old pictures

i stream them
its fun

don't let Sup Forums dupe you into thinking SotN is the best game ever because it isn't
the level design is actually quite weak (long hallway galore) especially compared to later CV's, it's also easy and the flipped castle is dogshit

if you don't like it there's surely a good reason, as the game has many flaws

God bless emulators

The only downloads I could find were old CD rips. I've never found a GOG version.

>literally every turd on the left still sold better than Gravity Rush 2

I basically exclusively do. Old games are easier to access and typically more of my style. The fact it would cost me $400 to get a console with one, maybe two games that interest me is just shitty when I can go emulate something for free. Only modern system I own is a 3ds and even then I have had it since 2012 and find its library pretty subpar.

Don't listen to this nigger,SoTN has great gameplay, fantastic visuals and music, only a literal pleb would not like it.

I played the Dragon's Trap remake on my Switch over my Thanksgiving weekend and loved it.

Now I really want to play Monster World IV.

At this point it's that or borrowing a friend's flash cart. Prices on certain games make me want to slap someone.

>youtube.com/watch?v=PJwb7l_ILIU
This game's music gives me an odd sense of nostalgia for some reason, I never really played that many shmups while growing up, yet this it still manages to make something click in my head

i was lucky and went balls deep long before prices got stupid.

What I like about old games is that they usually can be beaten in one sitting. I feel more motivated to replay them later.

Its the same reason why shmups age incredibly well compared to games of other genres, they are relatevely short but highly replayable.

The problem being there are many classic games that are still 100% superior to everything released today even 20 years down the line.

Like, Megaman X is still the best game with walljumping and Ocarina of Time is still the best 3D Zelda game.

Apart from the bare walls, this looks comfy.

What the fuck went wrong? There hasn't been such a comfy vidya channel since then. I miss them bros.

>PC is getting a shitton of japanese shovelware in these days compared to 2000.
fify

fuck this game

whot
torrentz2.eu/search?f=blade+of+darkness+gog
And that's the latest version.

I started getting some stuff back in early 2000s but kinda dropped out of it. Did get some gems that are entirely too expensive now but I'm also kicking myself for passing up some games.

Thbq I'd rather play Commander Keen than Sonic.

it's my basement, it's a work in progress but it's comfy

While that is nice I think it goes deeper then that for me.

I know this may sound kind of weird but in a way I kind of hate how so little is left to the imagination with today's games. Look at a old rpg and a new rpg for example. In an old rpg battles will convey the basic concept of what is happening, typically just with some simple animations of the characters, enemies, and maybe the attacks. Today a rpg would basically have no choice but to fully show what is happening. Another example is how many older rpgs often kept dialogue to a minimum so you the player would have to interpret how characters act and such. I enjoyed having to be imaginative and inventive in accessing what things look like or how certain characters act.

Jesus christ what a fucking knob.

>All those special shield attacks

Hnnnngh

I sued to download roms one by one but now want to download some romsets before Nintendo or whatever shuts them down, are there special sites/groups that I can grab them from?

archive.org/details/No-Intro-Collection_2016-01-03_Fixed
shhh, don't tell nobody

I’ve played Kirby Superstar 100% of the way through at least 12 times

aw shit nigga
SONIC BLAST MAN 2!

Internet Archive.

Me too lol, I am half-way making an app that acts as a front-end cataloge for rom websites so you could go to play some Phantasy Star game, you could pick from any of the sites you set up as sources; and from the same page see the different rom dumps available, their source, if they are hacked, flags for the country. Then from the same page see the rest of the games in the series and the ports of the game on other devices.

But if some of my source sites go down I'll be fucked and have to rely on romsets which is less cool.

>great gameplay

yes I love oneshotting nearly everything in my sight
also music and visuals aren't what makes a game, they're the least game part of the entire thing

the like/dislike ratio and the comments make me lose faith in humanity

>music
>not important

The state of the modern gaymer

yes

if the music and pretty visuals is all it takes you have very low standards

>also music and visuals aren't what makes a game, they're the least game part of the entire thing
I wouldn't go anywhere near a game with a terrible soundtrack, I wouldn't care if the gameplay was the tightest shit ever, I want a whole quality package.
Also, it's funny how people love saying that sort of thing and then go and shit on any indie game that uses minimalistic graphics.

>bitching for 10 mins without any effort put into the video
>trash opinions
This is viral. Stop shilling bad content

His opinion is even worse than his music.

>tfw Ristar failed

technically it made a profit but it definitely wasn't a major hit.
