games with a 'time limit' have always rubbed me the wrong way

Majora's Mask was a great game, but more importantly it was a masterpiece in terms of game development strategy, the QUINTESSENTIAL example of its paradigm. In one year, Nintendo took an old engine and some old assets and created an entire new game, which many believe to be superior to the original.

The fast development time is the biggest factor here. Nintendo took their old efforts and stretched them out into a new, high-quality game in a very short time span. Compare that to today's development strategies, where developers spend years making new games. They can't reuse their engines because then the graphics won't be good enough, same with assets. Everything must be made from the ground up, wasting potential millions in development costs.

I want us to go back to those good old days. The days when I could expect ANOTHER full-length amazing game JUST LIKE the old one within a year of the last one's release. Majora's Mask was incredible if only for achieving something that should be common, but is strangely rare.

I only played the 3ds version. But yeah it's a good game. Not one of my favorite Zeldas but still a good game

I loved Majora's Mask. If they combined BotW's physics with TP's dungeons and MM's level of character interaction and sidequests, they'd have a perfect game.

I'm still hoping they make a new game off the back of Breath of the Wild. The engine is in place, reuse some assets. But address the things the game lacked like more enemies and fully featured dungeons. Have a smaller world but with more things to do. Due to the time mechanic, Majora's Mask was almost like one giant puzzle of a game. Maybe try to do something similar with BotW tech.

Yeah, me too. I don't think there's much chance of it, though. Other than that one Majora's Mask situation and I think Galaxy 2 Nintendo basically never reuses engines. Even back in the 64 era with Super Mario 64, the reason Crash Bandicoot ended up winning out in the end was that they made more games and Nintendo didn't.

Plus, Champion's Ballad is coming out and that'll probably prevent them from making another game on the same engine. Not like, actually prevent them, but they'll use it as their justification for not doing it. So really the only hope is that Champion's Ballad is as good as MM, which doesn't seem too likely.

I wish they'd fucking detail what the Champion's Ballad is already. I suspect it was meant to be lauched around the same time as the Champion amiibos, but got quietly pushed back.

Honestly? Not so much currently. Never had an N64 so only recently did I get to play Ocarina and Majora's on the 3DS. I absolutely adored Ocarina and it's legit one of my top games now. Majora's didn't stick with me the same and I've put it on hold for now. Don't know why, maybe its the time limit (and I know it's better with the slowdown song on the remake) or I got burned out. I'll probably get around to it someday.

Yes but it's still overrated. The sidequests, one of the biggest aspects MM is often praised for, were boring as all dick from a gameplay perspective. The entire game was carried more by its story and atmosphere than anything.

It's ok, it doesn't really appeal to me. It certainly wasn't as fun as some of the other entries to the series. Still not a bad game though. As this guy said the time limit dynamic kind of ruined it for me. It's not very fun to always be rushing around because in my opinion you don't get to enjoy the experience.

Great game. My personal favorite is Oracle of Ages, but this one is probably second place.

I think the cutest part is that Link is a child, but he's doing everything his adult counterpart was able to do, like shooting a bow and a hookshot, and holding a metal shield out with one arm.

Back when I played the game I disliked how few dungeons it actually had, and how the time warping deleted all your arrows bombs and the like. It's just a bit too small, it would be better if there was more to it.

Actual bullshit time limit is Mario 3D World. Though even removing the time limit couldn't make that game fun.

Imagine if Mario's transition to 3D had been as awkward and stilted as Sonic's. That's what 3D Land is like, and 3D World is basically just a slightly more playable version.

Sonic Adventure is a buggy mess of a game with multiple different playstyles that are also out of place. 3D Land & 3D World don't have those issues.

My top Zelda title.
Coming off Ocarina, it was such a gamechanger I never got bored of it. I had to force myself to play Ocarina after Majora, it was that much of an improvement. I wanted a third title before moving on to the GameCube.

I really like the 3DS remake. The only dumb change they did in my opinion was changing how swimming works.

I really hate the one visual touch they made, where during transition from night to day, they made the screen fade to black instead of cutting out.

Yeah that was a weird change. Overall I feel it's a really good remake that people just get angry at it for no real good reason.

We don't really know, but Nintendo seems to reuse their engines, then mod the hell out of them between games. OOT ran on the M64 engine, while TP ran on the WW engine.
