It was fucking shit. The game was so fucking slowly paced, even for a Pokemon game. The designs aside from a very select few are really bad. The only thing this fucking turd of a game had going for it was Mt. Coronet for appearance alone, because people forget that mountains in Pokemon are absolute fucking shit. Fuck Diamond and Pearl.
It's not. Only Diamond and Pearl were considered weak, and that stems mostly from problems like being slow as fuck and having a relatively weak regional dex. Platinum and HGSS are constantly seen as among the best main games, and all the spinoffs in this gen were great too, though I personally thought Gen 3 had better spinoffs.
slow battles and a poor regional pokedex
fire types in D/P
>Infernape
>Rapidash
>
Diamond and Pearl were honestly abortions. Thankfully Platinum salvaged Sinnoh and the G2 remakes were good, which saved G4 from being shit. DP are commonly rated as some of the worst games in the series while Platinum and HGSS are praised as some of the best.
Diamond and Pearl were just not very good, weakest start to any Generation but they got there in the end. Can’t say the same for G6 and G7 though, they started out decent but then went nowhere. Hopefully G8 are better.
If it wasn't so slow, it would be around gen 3 level.
It's the best gen but hated because of D/P having slow text. Platinum fixed that so it's literally perfect.
GameFreak is going to fuck up the remake so bad. I bet the music won't even be close to as good as this:

You forgot the best track.

Mah nigga. Was about to post that.
>b-but Platinum was GOOD!
kek
Sinnoh was such a monumentally garbage region that no amount of added content could salvage it. Fuck off Sinnohfetuses.
They were slow as shit, the dex distribution was awful (Ponyta was your only fire type option if you didn't pick Chimchar) and the writing was full of stupid holes like Fantina arbitraily telling you to fuck off until your stronger when Norman is the only leader with a reason to do that.
They're too slow.
Now post your pokefu.
>continent is generally poorly built, heavily linear
>fucking terrible type distributions (fuck your shit if you want a decent fire-type beyond the starter at ANY point until endgame)
>weak rival
>underused bad guy team
>gyms not memorable in any way
>online component is trash, none of the fun of 3's
>postgame content is filler, complete downgrade from Emerald's postgame
>turned pageants into complete jokes
>safari zone is bland
>legendary designs are... Well you can see them
Evidently Platinum fixed or expanded on a lot of the problem areas, but by the time it dropped I had lost all interest in the series, and I'd been around since Yellow.
May try B/W2 and HG/SS since apparently they're real standouts, but the game never seemed to recover from the lowpoint of Gen 4.
SLOOOOOOOW AAAAAAAAS FUUUUUUCK.
Platinum fixed it, but it was also the game that finally made people get sick of third versions.
Wonder when people will get sick of the third version being split into two games.
>It's the best gen but hated because of D/P having slow text
If I remember right there was an option to enable fast text and skip attack animations?
>Ripping off David Bowie
Unova was such a monumentally garbage region that no amount of added content could salvage it. Fuck off Unovababbies.
But it's one of the best ones. Plat is generally up there in the top Pokemon games.
DP's soundtrack was so fucking good.

I originally thought of Telephone line as well, but it's actually more in line with All the Young Dudes.
>continent is generally poorly built, heavily linear
Sinnoh was a far more interesting and engaging region than any subsequent region and Pokemon has always been linear.
>fucking terrible type distributions (fuck your shit if you want a decent fire-type beyond the starter at ANY point until endgame)
Only faggots care about meta.
>weak rival
No subsequent rival has been as interesting.
>underused bad guy team
Good, plot bullshit is cancer.
>gyms not memorable in any way
They're more memorable than anything from gens 5-7.
>online component is trash, none of the fun of 3's
Only faggots care about online and the online has always been shit.
>postgame content is filler, complete downgrade from Emerald's postgame
Only faggots care about postgame.
>turned pageants into complete jokes
They always were.
>safari zone is bland
It always was.
>legendary designs are... Well you can see them
Better than gens 5-7.
Saving a lot of data...
It's not.
GEN VII is considered the worst one so far.
literally all of this
>no subsequent rival has been as interesting
What, you didn't like repeatedly and brutally crushing Serena's hopes and dreams despite supposedly being her friend for no other reason than so you could be the specialest snowflake?
>first pokemon game with legit multiplayer that didnt require you having to find some casual to play
>bring a team that I thought was bretty good to the wifi arena
>was probably 13 or so at the time
>get rekt by asian dude and anally destroyed cause this mofo was playing the stats game I didnt really realize until I quit pokemon after that gen
>mfw broken at 13 and realized I was never a beast in the pokemon games, the single player built up a false sense of skill and didnt realize this as kid
It wasnt the reason I left pokemon but damn I learned the meta game was deep at that point.
Hugh's battle theme alone makes him more interesting than Barry.
I don't think people remember that the majority of hate was on Gen 3 until recently.
Generation 4 is the BEST generation:
>Platinum is great
>Remakes the second best generation (gen 2) and makes them the best games in the series
>Last generation with overall great Pokemon designs
>Fantastic soundtrack and comfy locations
Now gen 6 is when Pokemon went to shit:
>OR/AS are the worst games in the series
>Mega-Evolutions are an awful mechanic
>Short story and no post-game content
>Game hands you Legendaries instead of making you work for them
>"Mythical" Pokemon instead of Legendary Pokemon
Sadly gen 7 did nothing to fix it and has the worst Pokemon designs of all time. Pic related turned me off the game.
>"But they're meant to be from another world!"
And Deoxys fits that requirement, but looks 1000000x better.
>That part in the Battle Frontier theme where they put in Gen 3's Frontier Brain theme.
Where did it go SO wrong, Sup Forums?
4 > 2 > 5 > 3 (including the GC games) > >1 >>>>>>>> 6 >>>>>> 7
Sinnoh is the best region since johto/kanto. The rest are shit.
Looks like they need to bring back Masuda and Morimoto.
I always hated people for rejecting Gen 3. It was obvious that the Gen 1 fans that carried over to Gen 2 dropped at Gen 3 due to getting older and entering their teens and just used the excuse of the Pokemon designs or hating water (in a fucking tropical setting). As someone that played Gen 3 and 4 and had played Gen 1 and 2 when they came out during middle school for me, I'd say 2 > 3 = 4 > 1. I skipped Gen 5 so I cannot judge it fairly. Gen 6 was abysmal and Gen 7 seems to be following suit.
>"Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions are great!"
Get rid of Ohmori, he's a hack.
>bring back the guy who's responsible for DP, BW, and XY
You sure about that, user?
No, I'm talking about the guy who was behind RS and FR/LG.
Mega evolutions actually made some shitmons viable. Z-moves are just a waste of time, they will not be missed.
I remember getting made fun of in 3rd grade because I decided to get a copy of Sapphire.
God damn those are shit. Only top left looks decent
1995 baby here, played RSE when I was 8/9 years old and still thought RBY and GSC were better
I even played RBY after RSE as a 10 year old, played GSC before RSE though, and still thought RBY was better than RSE, hell I probably liked Colosseum and XD more than RSE
DPP was when I really lost interest and I haven't played one since
Last Battle Frontier we'll ever get...
Heatran
This kind of turned me off too. Its not the fact that the beasts are alien. Its that they not only not look like Pokemon (Dont give me that "they are from another dimension" shit. Arceus is GOD and he looks like a Pokemon") but the design is not consistent at ALL. Look at the designs. Like, what the fuck are all theses? Some 13y from Deviant Art make this crap?
They look like they're from some weird European cartoon or shit, not like Pokemon. It's awful. It's even worse that gen 7 barely has any well designed Pokemon.
Mega Evo's are a great concept especially if they're given to Pokemon who were usually shit and would otherwise never have another evolution. Z-moves could've been interesting but every single damaging move just turns into a boring nuke and the non-damaging Z-moves have very few unique effects other than "Use the non-damaging move and get a +1 stat buff!!!!!!!".
No way this is real.
The weakest generation is 6 though, followed by 3.
I wish it was fake.
Not really. They're overpowered and are a clear gimmick. They should have just rebalanced every Pokemon instead.
Gen 4 brought me a god tier evolution to my favorite pokemon of gen 2
Deoxys isn't really as alien as the games may lead you to believe. He is the embodiment of the idea that all life on Earth originated from an alien species, as evident by the fact that he has double helix arms and his name comes from DNA.
Ultra Beasts are great, fuck off.
You too, fuck off.
only in postgame
I know. They could make so many unique facilities if they tried but fuck it, just put the Battle Tower as the endgame BP timesink.
How is the post game for entries after B/W anyways? Never got that far but I remember FR/LG, even Emerald and DPP having loads to do even after the credits roll.
>The weakest generation is 6 thoug-
You already posted her though
Stop dissing Necrozma
Slow pace, slower menu and animations
Terrible design choices, unsolicited genwun evolutions
Ramped the rushed story and tacked pokegod up to eleven
Forgettable cast and (outside of Cynthia) elite 4
I could go on
Ultra beasts and the multiple universe shit are pants-on-head retarded.
Gen 7 jumped the shark. Hard.
>Deoxys isn't really as alien as the games may lead you to believe.
...He's literately a virus from space. And no, UBs are awful and have no redeeming factors.
>tfw no best team hideout theme
youtube.com
As been said before, the slowness of everything just killed it. Even Platinum is still too slow for my liking.
Pokemon has always had multiple/parallel universes.
Yeah, I was born in 86.
Imagine Pokemon coming out for the first time in 6th grade. By the time you reach high school no one likes it anymore but they remember the first 151, some people played GSC.
I kept going though, I remember seeing those screenshots of reflective water and weird designs. And that music...

Not being able to transfer mons from Gen 1 and 2 was also a shitty thing, but it makes sense. Doesn't change the fact that it pissed a lot of kids off, especially with dying cartridge batteries. I always liked Gen 3, but the overworld is garbage
X/Y are the worst now
US/UM are pretty alright, way better than S/M
>Friendly trainer whose a Pokemon training prodigee and has big expectations to live up to
>Shatter her hopes of being the best while going on dates with her best friend
Why did this give me an erection every time I beat Serena
>most of the new legendaries and evolutions weren't even in the Sinnoh Pokedex in D/P
WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?
No idea why. Diamond has good region and Pokemon. HGSS is amazing. Spin-offs are varied (Pokepark, Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, Rumble, Battle Revolution).
/vp/ has ADHD so I don't consider its opinions worth a damn.
>The game was so fucking slowly paced, even for a Pokemon game.
At least play Colosseum and Gale of Darkness before you make this claim, faggot.
Nah I am a fan of the series and grew up with it. Some did that, but even those who stayed in new fans like my cousins who go back all think gen 3 has the ugliest pokemon. They were easily the worst in the series and on.y their remakes awesome end game saved them.
DP had glaringly slow battles, poor pokemon variety pre-E4, and too many HMs.
You can do that but unlike in future games if there's a text in battle you have to wait for it to flick over to the next text. Turning up the speed just makes it comes out faster but doesn't do anything about the delay between text boxes.
Pheromosa is based on a cave roach. Ironically enough the thing is one of very few fantasy roach monsters that takes note of real life roach tendencies to be extremely clean, prissy little things.
Because the fucking fog, mud, and snow routes.
>Mega evolutions actually made some shitmons viable.
>shitmons viable
>shitmons
>viable
Routes 104 and 201 are my favorites in the series
Objective ranking of all pokemon games:
>God tier
B2W2, USUM, Pt, HGSS
>Great tier
ORAS, BW, SM
>Good tier
FRLG, E
>Meh tier
XY
>Irrelevant tier
Everything else
How can this series attract this many contrarians like holy shit. The game is called pocket MONSTERS. Keep your fucking ass fire doggos, water ducks & grass snakes. You cutefags are ruining the franchise with your retarded simplicity
>ORAS in great tier
>USUM in God Tier
die
Move Emerald to god tier and we're good.
USUM is at least in good for the rocket tower alone. Fighting all the team leaders with techno ass remix's made me rock hard
>Implying USUM is bad
You first.
The faster text speed doesn't help much when its the slowest "fast" option to date. The animations off doesn't apply to Pokemon entering battle so they still do they're intro dances every time and even in Platinum (but rectified in HG/SS), The worst part of all which nothing can be done about is the atrociously slow speed of the health and exp bars.
I'm not even saying its bad, but god tier is really pushing it. It should at least be in great tier honestly, its marginally better than SM.
*best
UBs are one of the best sublegend groups.
>creative and clever designs
>designated as sublegendary but actually unlimited for most and functionally regular species
>all unique designs, don't follow a motif or edited clone look like the Lake trio
And Deoxys is an space alien, and is clearly supposed to look like one. The UBs are not, as they come from individual worlds and are actually based on the concept of invasive species, not explicitly aliens. Kartana is just a noshi though.
X/Y has additional location with Friend Safari (it was pretty good for interacting with other people) and Battle Maison. Also, you unlock one grinding spot and Looker sidequest. Besides this, you can catch 3 legendaries IIRC.
OR/AS has shitton of legendaries to catch as well as one additional location with Battle Maison and Daycare in it. It's pretty good for breeding honestly.
S/M has few additional areas (the last of which having Battle Tree) as well as small sidequest with beating old people up and big sidequest with Looker again.
Bottom line, battle facilities and legendaries are usually the bulk of postgame.
BTW, Emerald didn't have loads to do in its postgame. Outside of Battle Frontier you can only catch some legendaries IIRC.
>mfw used to use action replay for online matches
>all shiny legendary team
>retardedly OP skills they shouldn't have
>used one-hit KO cheat anyway
>would sometimes use the capture trainer Pokemon cheat to capture other players' pokes and instantly win
Those were the days.. And it also made me realize that the wi-fi battles just put you against a CPU with some player's team.
>no day/night system
>one region right after GSC had two
>no evolutions of older Pokemon
>can't transfer mons from older games
>only 200 of the 386 mons were available at the time
>many fan favorites weren't available at all until Colosseum and FR/LG
>post-game is nothing but catching a legendary and going to the Battle Tower
At the time, Gen 3 just felt like a huge step back from Gen 2. There's no reason to ever go back and play R/S when Emerald and FR/LG exist.
>Game with;
>Proper Battle Frontier and PWT
>Pokeathlon, Contests, Movie Studio, Pokeball Seals, Super Training, Pokemon Amie
>Seasons
>Proper Regional Dex with large variety of mons
>Difficulty settings you don't need to fucking unlock
>Large postgame with plenty of optional dungeons with legends at the end
How hard would you cum
>Weak Rival
Barry was the first rival with a meta team that could slap your shit in. He was way more of a threat than May/Brendon, Silver, and Wally combined.
>Worse online than 3
Gen 3 didn't have online, plus gen 4 had underground, battle frontier with wifi connection as opposed to wireless only.
The frontier is also a direct upgrade from emerald, where 5 out of 7 of the facilities are luck based, as opposed to the 4/5 skill based in DP.
>Contests
Legit they added more whimsy and a tiny bit of skill to what was already a skil-less, whimsical time waster.
It's always hilarious seeing people shit on gen 4 when you can tell most of them only played them after they stopped being relevant, usually on an emulator.
My third favourite gen
>Hating Buzzwole or Kartana.
Why do people do this?
What are your first two?
Let's cap this off
youtu.be
It had way too many road blocks.
The towns were cool and geographicly interesting but some how the region felt like they were trying to do too much.
The underground felt unpolished but was a neat way to include fossils. The bases were a downgrade from rse though.
They focused on the wrong legendaries. The triplets were terrible and creatively the worse. Story sucked too. They should have elaborated more on the otherworldly nature's of palkia, dialga, and arceus. Darkrai and cresselia could have been neat to which brings me to the next point.
This gen had too many goddamn legendaries and set the expectations of next gems to try and push more.
They also started the shit trend of over complicated evolutions. Now you need evo stones, xyz stones, a point of interest to get glaceon/ leafeon, a magnetic disturbance for probopass and magnezone, etc...
Creative or unique =/= good.
Sure, they're creative, but they also look like ass.
That isn't gen 3
