What went wrong with the dreamcast controller?
What went wrong with the dreamcast controller?
Youve never actually held one, have you?
Not much. The d-pad is decent, the analog stick is smooth and accurate, the triggers were pretty innovative at the time and worked great, and it had the best peripheral ever, the VMU. The only con is the awkward position of the start button.
No second stick.
Other than that, I remember stopping several sessions because the d-pad tips were so pointy it eventually hurt.
I still have my Dreamcast.
Never owned or played a dreamcast growing up, what was that square hole in the center used for?
I have 6. The vmu housing is too big for folks with big hands. Hurts if your knuckles rest on them for a long time.
Wait. There was only one analog stick? Even after PS1?
What were they thinking?
I loved it, dreamcast was awesome. I miss my PSO years.
You put the little VMU memory card in there and stuff would pop up on the screen
Second stick is only necessary for FPS games which are cancer anyways, or gimmicky games like the ape escape series. I would rather a controller have only one stick than have a second stick that is awful like the gamecube's c-stick.
With the Vibration pack the center of gravity is too high up.

I thought it was an alright controller for some games. But yeah, any fighting games I busted out the green goblins or ascii fight pads once I acquired them. Before that I winessed a friend get a blister with the stock controller when we were playing a lot of MvC2.
>the d-pad is decent
you're tripping, man
>1 analog stick made from the shittiest plastic
>those stupid fucking VMU's
>buttons fucking suck and feel cheap
>the fucking cord is on the bottom
I bet if I had one in my hands right now I would have even more complaints, the thing I remember hating most was the shitty analog.
Imagine what Shenmue would have been like if it had 2 analog sticks.
>>those stupid fucking VMU's
Literally nothing wrong with VMUs
>>the fucking cord is on the bottom
What the fuck does this matter? It's like that for the VMU but there's a clip on the controller to have it feed from the top if you prefer it that way anyway.
Literally nothing other than durability.
Those things go to shit faster than even sony's worst nightmares.
I still have my two from launch. Other than a squeaky R trigger nothing else.
> here's your contoller, bro
The controller is actually rather nice. VMU is also a neat concept. The Dreamcast just came at a shit time and was handled by a company that had too many internal battles to fight to keep it alive.
Shit happens, at least they can focus on making games now, instead of hardware.
Why is there no modern gamepad using hall effect sensors in the sticks like the Dreamcast one did?
Your knuckles would be facing the opposite side, you crazy shit.
>Hey bro you left your boomerang at my house when we were gamin' the other day.
>I guess they always do come back to you dont they haha!
It's a fins controller, though I would've preferred the analog stick to be a little lower and the d-pad to be more rounded. Usually it wasn't an issue, but whenever I would play Marvel vs Capcom 2, the d-pad would make my thumb blister from aggressive play.
not enough soft plastic on some of the buttons, the analog stick and dpad i liked, i hated that it didn't have a 2nd analog stick.
ITT: Underage faggots who never even held a Dreamcast controller.
The controller was fucking great. The only problem was the lack of a second analog stick, which wasn't really needed for library of the DC anyways.
>>Hey bro you left your boomerang at my house when we were gamin' the other day.
>>I guess they always do come back to you dont they haha!
designed to be a torture device for T-rex arm-having lardlords
Nothing is wrong with it, i really want a VMU again,
Portable dreamcast also
