That's not how it works, there are different teams that do different things. You don't bring in the art team to write the story.

But you can't have everything with the budget you have. If you spend 70% of it on making fuckincredible graphix you have to cut costs with writing and gameplay and whatever else.

No but it eats into costs. Photorealism will costs so much time and development resources as well as create larger file sizes to contend with that to be able to make a game like Dark Souls or Deus Ex or RE4 become increasingly unlikely.

Photo realism is mostly constrained to animation at this point, that tree is created with photogrammetry, the same tech they used on MGSV to create a lot of the faces and some of the gear in the game.

As we move closer to photorealism middleware tools help keep costs down, but there is a limit and straying away from realism will soon see noticeable differences in cost as some of these tools become more powerful. Even for animation AI driven animation aids will help make that even cheaper itself, but ultimately more fucking bland.

AI can't be too good because it makes games to difficult for plebs and they'll complain about games being too difficult.

Gameplay is watered down to be variations of the lowest common denomimator. Basically everything is Ubisoft open world or CoD shooting gallery corridors.

Graphics are the only thing that will change between big budget games because its the only thing they CAN change.
