It pains them to admit that perfection is not only possible but has already been achieved.
Because they played it on youtube and think that its fluid animations are just QTEs.
Because you essentially spend the first two hours moving ladders around.
Because it's cutscene after cutscene with dumb 3rd person shooter with terrible AI
Why did Zelda get straight 10s everywhere when it had such terrible framerates in certain places?
>character development is bad
>Sony exclusive
>10/10 from a majority of outlets
>western made
That’s the big three
Boring gameplay is generally bad in a video game. Character development can be done without cutscenes and mundane gameplay.
How could you love this game? It's just pointless and hollow. Guess it looks nice, but I don't care about graphics.
I gave this game a try as it came with my PS4. I played a few hours of Grounded, and holy fuck the AI is garbage. Dropped it after being completely sick of seeing Ellie running into enemies and edging me out of cover. I don't know why people were so forgiving as the game is essentially broken.
Just because you like it doesn't mean it isn't shit.
Sup Forums will shit on a game with a lot of dialogue and cutscenes unless it's Japanese.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's shit.
Appeal to authority is fallacy. Perfectly possible to shit on one and praise the other without relying on gaming journos.
It's safe to say this game has the most BORING gameplay out of any game I have ever played, period.
Why do so many pc drones hate a game they can't even play?
Except the gameplay wasn’t bad and you know it.
OP stop getting your panties in a twist. You don't need to prove your purchase to us.
Why is it pointless and hollow? Sounds like you never actually played it.
Hate to break it to you but my opinions are absolutely correct.
And it's my unbreakable opinion that you're probably a cool guy
Not OP, just pointing out how stupid your post was.
It really was at the start of the game
The Fox and the Grapes
At the start, then it got better and better as you went along the game.
>I don't know why people were so forgiving as the game is essentially broken.
Normies care more about cinematic experiences.
because it came after Uncharted games and those are unironically movie games.
hell, I held off of playing TLoU because I fucking hated Uncharted 2. turns out that TLoU is actually very fun to play on Hard and above. I also thought that the world was pretty and interesting enough that even the walking & talking segments were good. I liked being in those environments.
>if you don't like it you didn't play it!
I bought it, played it and got rid of it. Fuck you and your attitude of everyone disagreeing with you not having valid opinions.
>itt nobody played in crushing mode
PC bro who has played it here. It's basic at best. Why do Sony bronys pretend like a ps3 or ps4 is some unobtainable thing for PCfags when its a plug and play machine you can buy at walmart or even just borrow from a friend?
I don’t see how Uncharted are movie games either. You do know pretty much every action adventure TPS afterwards tried to copy Uncharted, right?
It's interactive cinema
Yes and western actions have generally been shit ever since.
Naw, I don’t think you did, user.
You're awfully defensive of this game
you do know people outside of PC players dislike this game?
the game is just disliked by anyone who has taste in vidya
m8 a ps3 costs 80 bucks
Everyone who wanted to play this game already has
>Hurr durr bad gameplay is more fun if you spend more time turtling through levels
Okay, I confess. I never played it. I'm only bitter because I couldn't afford it so I'm hating on it irrationally. The depth of the dozens and dozens of characters, the complex workings of the game's many societies and the amazing, evergreen gameplay make me hate myself for never having experienced them.
its an 8/10 at best,it didn't deserve perfect 10s all around
yeah and they're all shit
Uncharted is basically holding the left stick forward while the world explodes around you between parts where you sit behind cover and play whack-a-mole.
I hear that Uncharted 4 is better but I have no intention of playing it because I strongly dislike the characters and the story.
Someone needs to post the crushing webm of the guy just fucking sprinting past the NPCs in the final section of the game
Tried that earlier yesterday, that didn’t fucking work.
youtu.be
Uncharted 4 didn't change anything. It actually seemed to be more bloated with cutscenes or segments where you walk and talk than anything.
It's on a Sony console, so it's automatically and unironically hated by Sup Forums. Just a friendly reminder that most of this board is from America and most of them are literal weeaboo's and autists. Their video game taste revolves entirely around either anime, Japan or big titties. Nintendo is the most dominant playerbase on Sup Forums, it caters directly to the man child brain that craves simple video games and colors. It's just niche enough of a console, Switch that is, that they can feel like the underground hipster video gamer.
Sup Forums also unironically watches streams, subscribes to e-celebs and hypes about speedrun events. Just remember that if someone is just too popular, they have to be instantly hated on. Also e-celeb threads are completely acceptable, no need to even clarify who is in the Twitter screencap.
But about the game. I finished it long ago on PS3. The Last of Us boring as far as gameplay goes, but story is good and characters are fleshed out. It's pretty much perfect in how it tells the story. It's a shame the gameplay aspect is a shallow on the rails shooter with sneaking and a baby tier crafting system. Graphically it's amazing looking. It does deserve all those 9/10 and 10/10 awards, but not for being an amazing game's game. Just for pretty much raising the bar on how to tell a serious story in video games without seeming like a cheesy horror movie. The multiplayer also was amazing. Some of the best fun you could have in small bites.
That all said, this is why Sup Forums shuns off The Last of Us.
>It looks too good.
>It's on a PS4 and exclusive, so we have to hate it.
>It has a loli, but we have to hate it now 'cos it's not a Nintendo loli.
>It has a lot of talking = movie.
>It has cutscenes = movie.
>The story takes it's horror premise seriously = LOL ARE U SRS!? XD
>Everything everywhere gave it perfect scores = too main stream ergo have to hate it to remain hipster Sup Forums hivemind.
It sounds like you’ve never played it, user. It’s okay. You don’t have to lie here.
i mostly game on PC and i love this game. because most games are cross platform now and this game blows every other game out of the water.
PC exclusive games are still better though but they are all multiplayer games and dont offer the singleplayer story experience that TLOU has.
>NPC stops to investigate a brick being thrown after being shot at
Jesus Christ.
>the game is just disliked by anyone who has taste in vidya
>such as me, supreme gentleman and scholar who happens to be an expert on the subject
I did but I do wish I had stopped playing before the credits rolled.
You do realize the highest rated and most popular games PC has in the past few years have been
Minecraft
Five nights at Freddy
Undertale
Gone Home
PUBG
He's not wrong. Uncharted is so heavily scripted it's embarrassing. You only need to look at that tank battle in the village towards the end of 2. Holy shit what an absolute joke that was.
No, no, you don’t get it, user. You don’t need to lie. Serious. It’s okay. You can tell people you’ve never played a game but for some reason don’t like it. Kissing from your post it’s very obvious that’s that truth. Don’t lie. We’re all very accepting here.
Be honest, Sup Forums, would you fuck Ellie?
No.
prepare to die
No, she's too young.
TLoU has a better father-daughter dynamic than NieR, but look at how Sup Forums jerks the latter eternally. The West adores father-daughter stories, people just hate on TLoU because it's popular and the word "masterpiece" keeps getting thrown around.
Didn't you know Sup Forums hates storytelling.
It's alright. Wish it had some replayability, though.
6.5/10
Playing an action set piece isn’t the same as watching it, user. The only way you could think so if you saw someone else play. And I can understand. When my girlfriend was watching me play she thought I was just watching a movie because everything was so smoothly transitioned into and out of each other. So it’s okay if you watched a YouTube played it and thought it was a cutscene when they were actually controlling the characters the whole time. It happens more often than you think.
When it affects gameplay, yes.
>characters actually react to collectibles
>collectibles actually unlock bonus content
>multiplayer
>no replay ability
Why are there so many liars here today?
This.
Just listen to an audio book, it has substantially less ladder movement and tired cover based shooting, that way you can get even more of that story telling.
That's not even remotely the problem. The problem is all to do with the game driving me down a single path to destroy the tank to deliver a linear experience which feels cinematic.
When I was about 8 years of age Half-Life 1 came out and started us down this path. By the time Call of Duty 1 came out I started noticing the amount of scripting was becoming ridiculous such that if you stray an INCH off the set path you instantly die. These set paths just got tiresome over time and I did feel a loss of control as a result.
filled with cutscenes, walking simulator and the gameplay is awful
Collectibles don't really add much. Alternative routes and endings is what I mean by replayability.
Think of it as a puzzle segment where you have to find the right area to run to in the right amount of time.
The camera focuses on where I should be going. It's not difficult.
Actually there are a bunch of different ways to play a bunch of different sections of the game, for one example being the financial district.
Sup Forums BTFO again
>"It's FotM garbage that no one will remember in a month." - Sup Forums
>"It's a bland pandering movie game, of course it won the normie game of the year awards. No one will remember this game by next year." - Sup Forums
>Surely they'll forget about it by the next year
>Or the next year
>Or the next year
The gift that keeps on giving.
The gift the keeps on giving.
Then you shouldn’t be complaining. They only up 1 or 2 times in the game anyway.
because the only thing people praise this game for, are the stupid cutscenes.
call it resident evil 4 part 2 and make the writing worse and Sup Forums would call it gotyay
>edging me
You have my attention
First it would need gameplay half as good as Re4 for that to work.
I’m surprised Sup Forums doesn’t like it
>loli character
>open ended level for multiple ways through
>no sjw bullshit in the base game
>no weapon limit
>seamless switch between stealth and action
>collectibles that matter
>no health regen
>limited supplies on harder difficulty
If this was something different and a multiplat, Sup Forums would love it
You haven't even read an airport-tier 100 page bargain novel if you think TLOU has good storytelling. Just because it has a better story than most video games just means its the King of Shit. Cable reject writers will never create truly captivating stories.
The combat is so so and the syealth is broken. The story is what kept people interested.
I was interested when it was released years ago, but no ps3, i played some months ago on a cfw ps3 that i bought
what a big disappointment, horrible story, awful gameplay, basically all the time you're walking and chatting, also no likeable characters except for Joel and he fucked up at the end
(sorry for my bad english)
Everyone has different reactions to the games they play, and everyone plays games for different reasons.
TLOU was probably the most emotionally intense gaming experience I've ever had, and I found its moment-to-moment gameplay engrossing too. It's near the top of my all-time favourites list.
But there is no point in mindlessly defending it. Most of the criticisms levelled at the game are absolutely true. For me the overall impact vastly outweighed any issues, but it makes perfect sense that others might not get into it in the same way.
For anyone who hasn't played this game because they were put off by Sup Forums's criticism, I strongly suggest you forget any and all expectations you might have for it and give it a try. If you're anything like me, you'll be immersed in its world quickly and any niggling flaws will feel irrelevant as you bond with Ellie and fight to survive the apocalypse.
I feel like an advertisement now, but just so you know, you don't need a ps3/ps4 to play it: playstation.com
>stupid cutscenes
>King of Shit
This is exactly what I'm talking about... if you weren't interested in the story and as a result don't care about the characters and their world, it makes perfect sense that you wouldn't like the game. That's absolutely fine. Many others were enthralled by it, and that's perfectly fine too.
Because they neither played it nor watched a walkthrough of it. The game is 15-20 hours long and has 3 hours cutscenes and exactly 2 levels where you can't do anything and just walk one straight way without interactions (actually, in my mind there just comes the sequence where Joel is hurt).
The mixture of camp and serious is exactly what makes RE so good and memorable. Being serious and mature all the time hardly ever works, especially when you add terrible attemps of humor in the mix.
It's like Manhunt but less gory, also the political bullshit of Neil Cuckman is all over the place.
The DLC is just a sjw turd, and TLOU 2 is gonna be worse in that sense.
Name one SJW element in TLOU.
>call it resident evil 4 part 2
Yeah, NO, RE4 is miles ahead gameplay wise being an older game.
Ask bloodborne
>no sjw bullshit in the base game
LoL, Wut?
>Joel is the lapdog of stronk woman Tess
>Gay dude have an entire town for him alone
>Fireflies top dog is a nigress
>Another stronk woman leads the only functional society in the entire game
Play the game again, is full of political crap.
>Joel is a egoist prick
>Joel dooms humanity because he is a egoist prick
>Joel lied to a child because he is a egoist prick
>muh nigress loli lesbian waifu
And
RE4 isn't really that funny though. Resident Evil 1 is pure gold. 2 and 3 are pretty whatever. RE4 doesn't know what it wants to be and flubs the humor and hurts whatever tension there could have been and it doesn't even get us to care about the characters. Krauser was a cool fight, would've been a lot cooler if I had any attachment to him or knew anything beyond "he looks like Rolento, is a psychopath, and has a Crocodile Dundee knife". As is, RE4 has an hour of cutscenes and they mostly squander it. Fortunately they do pace the plot correctly, so it does end up feeling like an action movie. Just not one I'd ever want to watch.
God Hand is pretty funny though. The joke sticks. The bosses are set up better. The plot's paced pretty terribly but that's partially to blame for the game's format being what it is: pure combat all the time. Can't establish moods or mix things up with that demand.
I know what you mean but the events in Uncharted were not nearly smooth enough for my taste. As the other user said, the game would flip the fuck out if you deviated from the set path even by an inch. I was seeing the strings in Uncharted within the first two hours of the game.
The experience you describe was one I had with TLoU. I thought it was much more subtle yet more effective at guiding the player down the right path and it integrated player input much better into the scenes playing out. There were WAY fewer bombastic set pieces and it had generally slower pace overall, which I preferred.
This.
TLOU got tons of 10/10 because it has actually a good narration, good "screenplay", in fact a lot of "movie" qualities. Personally I'm at peace with Naughty Dog. I know their games are pretty basic shooters, with minimal gameplay etc, I won't argue with that... But hey, they tell you a cool story, with an excellent pacing, plus great graphism and care for small details. Overall if you know what you're in for, they always do an excellent job with their games.
BOTW, on the other hand, has a lot of experimental and interesting shits with good layers of intertwined mechanics and that's pretty cool. I think Sup Forums shills (or shit on) the game enough so I won't go into details. But let's just say that it's probably the only open world game I finished and enjoyed till the end since Morrowind. Also it's probably one fo the few games were the open world is actually a quality and not a flaw.
I'm glad I'm capable of avoiding projecting my political beliefs into every work of fiction I encounter. It must be so miserable to have a stroppy fit every time you encounter a fictional scenario that doesn't 100% fit your real life worldview.
Survivor and Grounded actively make the game worse.
>The entire game is reloading checkpoints if you have to expend a single bullet or arrow and the arrow breaks because you get so little of anything when it comes to ammunition and you have to save it for the few forced fighting sections like the university, most of the city, the sewer town, and the dam.
Even in the literal final level of the game the fully automatic rifles come with like 7 shots and you will maybe have 20ish to 30 rounds of each gun.
>No reason to ever take damage because if you do you're going to die anyway and you desperately need the items for shivs.
Plus health recovers for free on chapter ends and certain cutscenes.
>You pretty much have to know where all the material drops are for shivs because unless you dupe them using the melee glitch you are going to either scrape by with a whole 1 or 2 fourths of a piece needed on Survivor and not at all on Grounded.
I believe on Grounded you had to miss like four doors without the glitch due to the shit material rate.
>You're encouraged to run past most encounters if you can, and when you can't you spend 10+ minutes stealth killing everyone because you can't afford to spend any bullets at all.
>If you have to fight a Clicker or just an infected in general you will either ignore them or use a brick/bottle.
Just play the lower difficulties and don't use the wallhacks, I guarantee you will have a much more fun time.
Same. It had plenty of good gameplay, Sup Forums was overracting. It was movie game done right.
>Joel is the lapdog of stronk woman Tess
Joel and Tess are equals. Tess dies, Joel doesn't.
>Gay dude have an entire town for him alone
It's never a point in the game that he is gay and it's very subtle. He barricaded a town that he constantly cleans up of infected, is insanely prepared for everything, and has to fend off people who wander into his area.
>Fireflies top dog is a nigress
She is just a poster boy, good looking with motherly figure to be placed on ads around cities. They ask her of opinion formally but she never decides things.
>Another stronk woman leads the only functional society in the entire game
Another point that just shows you are not capable of understanding simple concepts within a mainstream game like TLoU. Or are you deliberately shitposting?
>Joel is a egoist prick
>Joel dooms humanity because he is a egoist prick
>Joel lied to a child because he is a egoist prick
>muh nigress loli lesbian waifu
That's SJW? How?
Yes i rather a sarah though
