When was the last time you actually played super mario world? Nothing you said applies to it.

Sonic has and always will have an edge over its competitors due to he and his friends designs.

I'm 20 and it's the first game I ever played

I too am 20 and DKC was among my first SNES games when I was a small child.

OP is just some weird donkey kong fanatic living in his own little world.

>Anyone under the age of 25 don't even know it existed

You're wrong retard. The Wii game sold like 6 million and it's the second best selling game in the series

>>Much better marketing than both Mario and Sonic
>>Anyone under the age of 25 don't even know it existed
Fucking dumbass.

The DKC games are great but the design philosophy found in a Mario game is more my cup of tea.

For example, in a Mario game you can traverse back and forth in a level with ease to search every nook and cranny. There's generally a lot more freedom and it encourages exploration, especially levels with caves and such.

In DKC however, while still good, levels are usually much more linear and they're really meant to challenge a player's platforming skills than anything else. There's not much to explore other than taking a dangerous jump that's out of your way to nab a collectable item.

Sonic has always been trash from the beginning though.

sonic really is hot garbage when it comes to game design.

Bing Bing Wahooo Man never did it for me and I've been playing Nintendo since 1992.
If Danky Kang and Sanic are 10/10s, Fatass Italian Plumber is 6/10.
I did love Mario 64 though and still do to this day. Rest of Mario games are pure trash though.

You can go back and forth in the classic sonics, you know.

DKC2 is what i consider the closest to a "perfect" 2d platformer, had the right difficulty not too hard not too easy, lots of secrets, crazy atmosphere and a music that enhanced it even further.

you have objectively awful taste

DKC1 is good but it's not that great. mario world shits all over it.

DKC2, on the other hand is GOAT and can be put against any game around

>Looks better than Mario and Sonic
I think the visuals are more impressive from a technical standpoint but Sonic and Mario look much more aesthetically pleasing.

>Has more movement options than than Mario and Sonic
If we aren't including powerups this is correct.

>Has greater enemy variety than Mario and Sonic
Better variety than Mario but not on the same level as Sonic.

>Every level centers around a new, unique and fun gimmick, unlike Mario and Sonic
This is true of all three though.

>Much better marketing than both Mario and Sonic
I wish.

Your parents knew you were too young to give a shit whether a console was 'new' or 'cool'.

Good/smart parents really.

>OP is just some weird donkey kong fanatic living in his own little world.
How op will ever recover

I'm 20 also and my first game was pic related when I was 6, can I join the club?

Why do Mario's antagonists (DK and Wario) have better games than Mario himself?

how do the GB games hold up? seems ambitious

stop projecting

Pretty good. 1 was neat because it added brand new levels and enemies. 2 does nothing new, but it polishes the gameplay so its practically identical to the SNES one.

3...was kinda slapped together.

I see people talking about the Original Trilogy and Tropical Freeze a lot on this place but have never seen a Returns thread.
Did Sup Forums Not liked the game, for me it was great.

I found this game lying on the ground. Brought it home and played it. True story.

Fucking love it, but Tropical Freeze is just better in everyway.

The minecart stages are my crack. Every time I need a quick fix I just play pic related.

>Kingdom of Kong
THEN WHO WAS KING?

1 is basically a whole new DKC game. 2 is very similar to SNES DKC2, wheras 3 is more like a Remix game.

I don't understand why people like minecart stages, they're literally just QTEs.

Now that Dong City is confirmed in Odyssey, it's time for DKC to be fully integrated into deepest lore.

youtu.be/czYjnRbAWZ0
Minecart levels were my shit, the rokect barrels were good but since I just suck I kept diying over and over again.

Frantic obstacle courses is literally the pinnacle of video games.

23 and DKC was the first game I ever played when I was 5

You missed
>less replayability than mario

DKC failed because 3 was absolute shit.

>Every stage has multiple bonus rooms and a DK coin, making each revisit worthwhile
>Compared to mario which occasionally has 1 "secret" exit

I hated those DK coins. The game was long enough without all these stupid collectible items fucking everything up.

DK and DK2 were fun for their simplicity and tight platforming. It was also cool to be able to turn into animals for some parts. DK3 took things too far and muddled everything up without gaining much for it.

I love watching people play that rope climbing stage though. That shit gave me legit nightmares as a kid.

>yfw TF turned out to be the GOAT platformer

Returns has issues that were fixed in TF:
>extremely disappointing OST
>most levels inside each world look pretty much the same
>an entire world of minecart/rocker barrel stages
>a few istances of trial and error instakill obstacles
>mostly awful bosses
>vulcano world isn't good at all compared to the 2 before
Still a 8/10 that I occasionaly replay.

>mfw Dixie is back and I kind of hate it

Mario had multiple ways of getting over obstacles, switches that unlocked more of levels, secret exits, pipes, etc.
DKC had nothing to offer of a replay.

Japs got ass blasted Brits made the best game on their Platform and killed the Franchise

>Miyamoto personally plated the Cursed Seed of Misfortune outside RARE's studio
>It still flourishes

the problem with dkc is that the main thing that sets it apart from other platformers, rolling off cliffs, doesn't make logical sense so most people have to accidentialy find it

I'm 19 and this is the best game I've played through my childhood

Gonna get a tattoo to commemorate

Was this the first instance of TROO FAR?

is DK really Mario's "antagonist" though? Cranky was an asshole when he was young but the more iconic DK is literally just an ape who chills around and is motivated by bananas.

Miyamoto is such a piece of shit.

There's a reason we never got Sonic Spinball 2.

I have 24 and DKC Trilogy are my favorite games of all time, since 4 i have beat them like a shit ton of times and it never bores me, 2 is the best one though

The DKC franchise always focused more on presentation than anything else. I'm 31 and remember when the first game came out. It looked great and had great music, but I always thought that it was nothing special as a game.

Sonic has always sucked and Mario is just about every gamers first game and the platformer to compare platformers against.

>play as gorilla and chimp
>neither throw their shit to establish dominance

these games would be so much better with a shit attack and you know it.

Rare stopped making them. That's the only thing that went wrong. I'd absolutely love if Rare were allowed to make another 2D DKC game, sprites and all.

They mocked Jim's gun and Sonic's shoes if that counts

Just fucking look at these happy guys.

>Donkey only appears in the first as playable then becomes the damsel in distress and the same happens in 3 to Diddy

A worthwhile tradeoff.

I can't die in peace without DKC3's new OST playing on something that sounds better than a GBA.

youtube.com/watch?v=VlgA4Dv6sVI

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is the greatest game of all time.

_ ____ __ ____ ____ ______

maybe it's just me but I never thought 2 or 3 were as tight or responsive as 1, arguably had some better levels but after 1 it felt too slidey

>GBA DKC3
David Wise might be great and everything but the SNES OST is better

What the shit. I'm 23 and everyone I know in my age played DKC knows about it.

Maybe it's the nostalgia goggles, but I think so too.

Yeah, it's just you. They were all pretty tight games.

POST KONG PORN ALREADY

DKC is great, but can we all agree SMB3 takes a huge dump over SMW?

The Retro DK games are pretty good, but they are bland like DKC1. It's a shame they made sequels to DKC and ignored all of the improvements that DKC2 and 3 made.

I'm 24 and played it growing up..

The new Retro DKC games have that generic plain cartoony look to them, and the levels lack creativity and the enemy design is atrocious. That is probably why people generally don't know about the DKC franchise.

what could that spoilered text possibly have meant?

Rare got bought out

They really arent, even if in the two examples all you are doing is pressing a button.

On a QTE, there is a dissonance between the player and the character, when you press A and your character does a cool spin, not only is the camera in a complete different position from gameplay, making you feel "wait i'm not doing this, this isnt part of the game this is a movie", the action is, almost aways, moment specific, so you will only do that cool jump with the A button that one time, and when you actually are controlling your character you will NEVER be able to do the cool jump with just the A button, giving even more the feeling that that wasnt you, it was the game doing it while you were just watching.

The mine kart on the other hand has not only the camera on a normal gameplay view always, not breaking your immersion and actually making you feel in control, the actions arent moment specific, so even if its not the right moment, you can jump at whatever time you want, just with the one press that never changes. Thats not even to mention that the good kart sections have you do more specific jump, between long, middle and short jumps, sometimes making a mistake might lead you to death but sometimes it might just lead you to a disadvantageous position for the next jump, giving the player actual control of their current situation.

Hey, me too. Turning 21 next February. First games I can remember are this, Super Mario World and some soccer game.

>Anyone under 25 doesn't know the game exists
Explain why I had the GBA port when I was 6 OP. Sadly didn't have the console to play the original.

>still believing in the shit rumor that the TwoBestFriendsPlay channel started.

"look at her cute coochie i wanna plant my white seed in her mango field"

I actually just played through the first three over thanksgiving break. I couldn't tell a difference between the controls of the first two.

I thought the first two controlled really well. Two excels in almost everything and although I like one, it sort of puts it to shame and makes it feel so basic...level design, etc. It's still solid, but by comparison it comes across as poor.

I fucking hated three though. fuck that game

Dixie was literally my first vidya crush.

>an entire world of minecart/rocker barrel stages

I fail to see how that's an issue instead of good fun.

For whatever reason, I find those old 3D renders really appealing.

They are amazing, they perfectly nailed the atmosphere, a blend of cartoony and grtitty.

It's amazing how well the style worked in established mood.

Can you play TF without using DK? Or is it only 2-player mode?

They need to give the Donkey Kong Country trilogy the Sonic Mania treatment.

Classic graphics, music, controls but with new modes and elements that makes it feel like it came out in the 90s.

Of course. Better powerups, stronger sense of uniqueness to each stage and thematic worlds that actually make sense instead of shit like donut plains (?)

MONKEY AIDS

I read that instruction manual every day at school.

A WORTHWHILE TRADEOFF

You can play as Diddy, Dixie, or Cranky when you unlock hard mode

27 and donkey kong country was the first snes game that i played

YEEEEEEES I LOVE HARD MODES

27, mega man was the first game I played but I played the fuck out of DKC3. Finding every coin took me like 7 years, the one in the second stage of the island accounted for 3 of those.

Fuck Kiddie Kong. He belongs in the trash. DK should have been the second playable character in DKC3. Or better yet, have 4 playable characters and it's random which you'll find in a barrel.

I wish someone would do a romhack of DKC3 to replace Kiddie with Donkey but sadly no such hack exists.

How did it took so long?

These games always sucked.

T. Miyamoto

In what way? Everyone says this but no one ever explains why.

>he can't name every single pirate Kremling

it's autism, disregard

Years ago was almost excited new donkey kong country. Then it's just drums and masks. No damn kremlings.

pretty sure it was "I want to fuck that monkey" the line length seems to support my hypothesis.

A lot of people say that these are hard games but ... I dunno. They weren't really that hard desu. I only had a little bit of trouble getting the secrets in DKC1 because they're all cryptic as fuck.
