>I think, and my thoughts cross the barrier into the synapses of the machine - just as the good doctor intended. But what I cannot shake, and what hints at things to come, is that thoughts cross back. In my dreams the sensibility of the machine invades the periphery of my consciousness. Dark. Rigid. Cold. Alien. Evolution is at work here, but just what is evolving remains to be seen

Is anyone actually happy in the human hive?

>What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.
God damn he is edgy
you spelled personal wrong

He’s right though
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant. Need as well as greed have followed us to the stars, and the rewards of wealth still await those wise enough to recognize this deep thrumming of our common pulse.
>Alpha Centauri is 20 years old
This hurts at too many levels
Is this the only game to do philosophy right?
>Of course we'll bundle our MorganNet software with the new network nodes! Our customers expect no less of us. We have never sought to become a monopoly. Our products are simply so good that no one feels the need to compete with us. --Where do you want your Node today?
I feel like it’d be pretty sweet to live in Morgan Industries.
Pretty much. That's why I love it. It's not perfect in any sense, but it is well written and at least has a foundation in mature philosophy.
These days writing and philosophical themes in games amounts to "Insane bad man wants to take over the universe because.....reasons". Its dumb.
Nobody wants to destroy, take over or poison the entire world/universe for the sake of it. Everybody does things for reasons they believe in. Hitler believed in what he was doing was right and virtuous. Its why Hitler is an even scarier villain because he thought what he was doing was right.
Villains in video games today are nothing more than cartoon cutouts made for immature minds.
Did anyone actually play Beyond Earth? Seemed flashy and shallow
I played it for 600 hours. It wasn't that bad after the xpack.
Played the demo. I mean when they were giving interviews about the game before launch and the lead devs were like late 20s soyboy hipster types I knew it would nothing close to a SMAC 2. The demo confirmed it was just Civ 5 with a more sci-fi'ish coat of paint.
They're genetically and mentally programmed to be happy. They might be the happiest of all.
Genejacks are, but the general population isn’t. Domai seemed pretty unhappy with Yang’s drones lifestyle
Its dumber Civ5 and not even in the same league with SMAC. Better with the expansion, though.
I think it's probably the only 4X game to have some serious effort put into its writing and setting building. In far too many genre entries descriptions and quotes are just filler that add nothing to the game.
Ah but can we say that one programmed/brainwashed to be happy is truly happy? For one could argue happiness can only be found by the self, because the individual has exclusive knowledge on what it is to itself.
Of course you can. Everything is observable and measurable with the right tools
