How terrible is 2...

how terrible is 2? the autism in me wants to play it in order to continue the collection but I heard nothing but bad things about this game. is it worth at least one playthrough?

I don't understand. I marathoned 1 in a night just because I was having fun. Why could I never bring myself to finish 2?

the music was good. i actually beat 2 twice, and never finished the first one. All i remember is the game having one combo, guns being overpowered, and level design was super bland. last boss though was pretty cool. also that fire dude you fight, one shottedme with1 health left, andi went ultra demon mode and fucked it to death now that was cool though

Good things:

Serious Dante design is pretty cool
Beta version of Trickster and aerial combos
Majin DT is pretty based, best DT transformation so far
Final Boss is real hype and I'd replay that part a lot
Soundtrack is amazing
Early Bloody Palace and Trish
Gun switching
Lucia is qt

Bad things:

Everything else.
Monsters designs are really uninspiring(Infected Helicopter rofl)
Most bosses and monsters are HP tanks with very little gameplay design to them
Guns are OP
All devil arms are exactly the same
Gameplay and combos are extremely clunky
Levels are in really open areas so comboing is a nightmare or legit impossible sometimes
Aerial combos are extremely clunky to pull of
Stinger is really unsatisfying to use, bad feel
Aerial monsters are cancer
Pretty much everything gameplay related is bad
Villain is a joke

Overall not worth unless you are a true fan of DMC that wants to experience the series a whole. I had good times with it but yeah you can't expect a good game if you wanna play it

It's just a mediocre action game. Not as good as Chaos Legion, for example, but okay enough. I've played worse and I like the idea of DT customization and DDT. I also think the Devil Trigger in general is stylish as fuck.

I wish they'd bring back those elements and DMC2 Dante's outfit in a future installment.

On it's own, DMC2 is a decent game for its time. Stuff like is unfair although it does have some real slog moments.

The hatred for it is because DMC1 is genuinely one of the most revolutionary games ever made and still holds up amazingly to this day, and DMC2 actively did the opposite of that game in every aspect

All of the cool parts of DMC2 were done better in the shinobi remake that came out around the same time. Just play that instead.

It's telling that viewtiful joe and a fucking jrpg where dante is a glorified cameo adhere better to the style and design philosophy of DMC1 better than it's actual sequel did.

Yeah, it's good. The only thing that's screwed up in a gun in DMC3 called Kalina Ann. The bayonet doesn't function the way it should, but it's not a relevant gun nor a relevant move.

DMC1 is the japanese version with english text (it has the same button layout as the rest of the series and is a bit easier)

DMC2 is better than the original because they added a cheat code after beating the hardest difficulty that gives you infinite DT to make up for there being no super dante

DMC3 has the gunslinger moves for kalina ann be legtimately broken and not work properly, but those moves were pretty worthless so its not big deal. Also the loading screens aren't as cool.

Emulating should only have frame delay if your computer can't handle it though, so if you can manage it that's probably better.

It's terrible, but that didn't stop me from beating it on DMD though. even worse than it sounds, but at least there the regular enemies don't die in a few swipes and pistol shots.

There's a few mechanical improvements but in general it's a step back from 1 and isn't remotely comparable to 3.

The real issue with DMC2 is the enemies. They're uninteresting to fight from both a mechanical and design point of view. Some of the enemies include:
An "infected" tank
An "infected" chopper
A building that comes to life
And numerous other enemies that don't actually try to engage you but just attack in your general direction.

If you're really curious then give it a try but it's absolutely a waste of time.

dmc2 is fucking boring in the cutscenes outside of a couple good oneliners dante gets. DmC's cutscenes are largely (unintentionally) funny

dmc2 took dmc1, one of the best games ever, and actively did the opposite of it for the worst in almost every case. DmC is just DMC4 nero but a lot worse and jankier (still a 7/10 at best in the greater scope of action games that includes all the god of war clones) and with more moves. Shit, DMC4SE vergil takes a bunch of his shit DIRECTLY from the vorgil DLC right down to using the exact same animations

people don't forget just how fucking hyped "the sequel to DMC" was and how much of a letdown DMC2 was. It made DMC3 sell real bad until it picked up via word of mouth over the years/special edition and it made that game have way less budget.

DO NOT BUY IT ON PSN.

The digital version has constant freezing/crashing issues when entering menus. Make sure you buy physical.

It's hard to feel like you're enjoying yourself when the main character is insufferable and the story is pants-on-head retarded.

The giant white text in the levels and shit just made everything feel so hokey. I couldn't get into it.

Just play it. It's not a long game. It is definitely the worst entry in the series though, much worse than DmC.

Definitely only bother with the Dante's disc if you do. Lucia's disc is largely the same, but instead filled with insufferable water levels.

Trish is unlockable and she has DMC1 Dante's moveset, feels all very floaty though.
