>Gets told to play this game by alot of people >Looks like some shit visual novel >Plays after 2 hours and thinks it's just some Internet troll >Comes back after hearing that I NEED to play it >It turns out to be one of my favorite horror games this year
I don't get why people call it horror. There's nothing scary about it.
Hudson Wood
>babby's first meta VN
I would say this was bad a KS, but at least this didn't spawn the amount of cancer that KS did.
Jaxon Bell
play 20xx instead, made by the same guy, dan salvato
Brandon Kelly
KS is generic trash. There's absolutely nothing special about it compared to every romance based visual novel. DDLC is at least clever with how manipulating the character files affects the game. The developers also did a good job with all the glitch animations and effects. It really did feel like the game was broken.
Thomas Hill
Doki Doki has a bunch of neat easter eggs
Try deleting Sayori's chr before starting a new game. Try deleting Monika's chr before starting a new game. Find the real location your save files are stored, copy it and try to load it after Sayori's death. During act 2, there's a couple scenes that don't always play. It's rng whether they pop up. You won't see everything in one playthrough. Try restoring Monika's chr after she restores everybody else. Try having your character name different from your computer name when you're alone with Monika. Something special happens if you're streaming when you're alone with Monika. Obtain the hidden good ending by seeing everybody's cg before Sayori dies.
Noah Garcia
Keep your game folder open while you go through the story. Monika creates temporarily files that have messages from her throughout it.
Connor Williams
If this is a "baby's first" then any chance you know of a baby's second? I liked DDLC so if that's "bad" then could you recommend something better and similar?
Jackson Sanchez
Umineko
Dominic Foster
>Try deleting Sayori's chr before starting a new game. >Try restoring Monika's chr after she restores everybody else.
Please user, tell me what happen I really dont want to install the game again
Anthony Ortiz
Does this game have jumpscares? Especially hard to avoid and sudden ones? I want to be creeped out but not Ooga-Boooga'd
Gavin Parker
is this shit another normie VN like nekopara?
Sebastian Torres
It has 1 (2 if you stream the game on twitch) Other than that it's a very slow burning horror and damn good one at that
Nolan Rodriguez
It's a horror game if that tells you anything I don't really want to spoil it It has 1 (2 if you stream on twitch)
Andrew Campbell
The game itself isn’t terrible especially if you do like the characters and are not just playing it for le horror streamer bait I miss when it wasn’t played by every popular streamer and youtuber who are probably already spoiled by their fans, now it’s turned into Undertale
Oliver Russell
>Try deleting Sayori's chr before starting a new game. I know the rest so is this new? Hadn't heard about it and the last update I played was 1.1
Noah Sullivan
...
Juan Hughes
I wonder what the Steam forums were like when people who are so used to Steam doing everything for them got to the point where you have to delete Monika's character file.
Josiah Ramirez
Not him but Pony Island had a lot of the same "meta" stuff with out being a VN.
Dominic Ward
Oneshot, undertale, pony island if you want meta shit
Ian Taylor
>KS is generic trash. There's absolutely nothing special about it compared to every romance based visual novel.
If we're being fair, it's unique in that virgins from Sup Forums and Sup Forums spammed and quabbled about it long enough to actually force it into existence.
You get the same screen as deleting monika.chr but without Sayori spazzing out
Brayden Morales
meant for You get a screen of Sayori hanging around
Noah Ross
>Try having your character name different from your computer name when you're alone with Monika. This one scared the hell out of me.
Matthew Scott
I beat the game but don't ever recall a jumpscare. What part are you referring to?
Levi Richardson
big guy
Cooper Morales
wad through 2 hours of shit to get to 30 minutes of good stuff.
Lucas Rogers
pony island has literally one good part in it. even at 2$ it felt like a ripoff
Ryder Stewart
>another generic thread shilling your shitty western VN
Lincoln Myers
Higurashi before Umineko.
Would probably like stein's;gate too.
Austin Gomez
DDLC's biggest inspiration must be Irisu Syndrome. I dunno how many of the tricks it uses work on OS's past windows XP though.
Hunter Jackson
>Couldn't protect her smile
Nicholas Peterson
I assume he means Natsuki's PLAY WITH ME sequence that ends with her lunging at the screen. the optional one is if you're streaming during the final part with Monika, she realizes you're streaming and baits a jumpscare only to not do it, then it hits a few lines later.
Adam Gray
I've literally never seen that before. What the fuck? I thought the jumpscare was the part where you are greeted by Sayori hanging herself
Chase Robinson
Unironically Danganronpa V3 Actually, just play every danganronpa game.
Xavier Rogers
that counts too, I've just gotten numb to it and forgot. although personally I knew something horrible would be shown at that point so I was ready for it.
Wyatt Gray
What happens if you delete Yuri and the cupcake chick first?
Isaac Johnson
VN with a twist, nothing new. People who are not familiar with VNs might think it's the best game ever.
My first real VN is "The Devil on G-String" and I think it is the best thing ever. Wanted to read it again but once you know the choices it boils down to the standard "choose this for good end, choose this for bad end".
Evan Hall
What are some unsettling VNs to read?
Liam Flores
I personally found the second chapter of house in fata morgana to be pretty unsettling, especially after the reveal.
Uninterested before because it just looked like some VN, uninterested now because I already know what to expect if I did play it.
Tyler Martinez
I personally never understood this line of thinking, same with caring about spoilers. Just because you know something's going to happen, doesn't really lessen the impact of actually witnessing it. Sure, perhaps it can if you let your imagination run wild and dream up scenarios leading up to the thing you got spoiled on, but then that's all on you. It's like knowing X character is going to die. Unless you know exactly how it's going to unfold, it doesn't really lessen the impact doe sit?
Jace Bell
subahibi is pretty fucked so far, chapter 2
Luke Taylor
It's literally free.
Brayden Lewis
Pretty much my experience exactly. I honestly enjoyed the dating part, too. The way it ramped up into body horror and self-mutilation really got me.
Juan Johnson
I had all three Danganronpa games spoiled for me before I got to play them. I can understand your argument for getting spoiled on Danganronpa 1, since all I knew was who the mastermind was. For Danganronpa 2 however, I was spoiled on something that basically took all the excitement out of the twist when it happened. The thing I got spoiled on in Danganronpa 3 happened in the first chapter, so that blow was softened a bit, the actual main twist of the game I managed to avoid.
As far as DDLC goes though, I just don't care that much about dating sim style VN's, or horror games, so there was basically no chance I'd care about it anyways. It all just depends on the nature of the spoiler, and how significant it is I guess.
Anthony Hernandez
My first VN was that one dating game from the mid 1990s. I forget it's name because I haven't played it since it was released.
My favorite VN is still probably Yu-No. I did enjoy the VN G-Senjou no Maou but it was still not in my top list.
I wonder if I would like the game the OP is talking about...
Jose Bell
>Just because you know something's going to happen, doesn't really lessen the impact of actually witnessing it. The trigger warning at the beginning of this game ruins any chance for the suicide to be surprising at all.
Caleb Davis
DDLC only really dresses itself up as a dating sim and that costume gets thrown out completely after act 1. Act 1 only takes about an hour or so to get through, maybe a bit shorter or longer depending on your reading speed.
I dunno man. I went into the game knowing nothing aside from the fact that it apparently wasn't what it appeared to be on the surface and both suicides hit me like a brick. Yuri's more than Sayori's because of how everything about Yuri's suicide was so fucked up.
Benjamin Fisher
Good for what it is but highly overrated and too short and incomplete. Act 1 had too little variety and felt like it was just rushing too fast to get to the "good parts" so that people not used to VNs wouldn't drop it early on, so the characterization suffered. They could have at least explored the school festival activities and had some more side characters. Feels like there was potential for a Natsuki route in act 2 but that got axed so you're forced into yandere Yuri route no matter how you write your poems.
If you want another good VN that's weird and crazy but more polished than this try out Wonderful Everyday.
Sebastian Cooper
Why the fuck are western VNs suddenly on the rise? I was hoping Katawa Shoujo was going to be the last time this shit was going to happen.
Brandon Lewis
I'd say it's a fun experience. Do what said. It's a meta VN where you twiddle around the game outside the game
Jaxson Smith
Thanks for recommending a Youtube video. I'll sure go and play an untranslated VN for a small segment at the end of the game that's somehow in competition with DDLC.
Grayson Edwards
I was hoping it would do more, but it was still worth a playthrough. If you liked that one, check out Army Gals. You can download it for free at the /weg/ pastebin on /aco/. Yes it's technically a western porn vn but the porn scenes aren't even that good, it's the story and characters that are great. No meta narrative, just a psychological thriller of sorts. It's about a traumatic experience, really really good. I tried Battle Girls by the same devs but it's fucking horrendous. But anyway yeah Army Gals is great and you should read it.
Liam Reyes
Wait until the Korean and Japanese translations come out, and it becomes a hit overseas, just like Undertale was.
Jaxson Garcia
>Find the real location your save files are stored, copy it and try to load it after Sayori's death.
