Lootboxes are okay and have been around for ages. This shitstorm is ridiculous
The problem is more that you can now buy shit that gives you a blatant advantage over other people, which gives further incentive to other people to buy lootboxes as well. It completely drains the "play the game to get better" reward system and replaces it with p2win.
The PS1 was the last console made that was worth playing. I haven't played a console made past that, and never played a computer game made past 14 years ago.
The GBA is the greatest game system, however phone emulation has incredible perks that put it far ahead of the extremely uncomfortable GBA sp.
Video games do NOT age. YOU age. It was YOU who changed.
The Gamecube was my favorite system of all time, and i hate that the Wii and all modern consoles are selling so well, because it means that Nintendo will never return to making an actual console, and will instead just continue shitting out gimmicky soccer mom platforms.
Ocarina of Time is a broken, boring game, and the only way a person playing it for the first time today would like it is because they base their tastes on what's trendy to like.
Vanquish is a mediocre game
I think most Zelda games are pretty boring, i never really got the hype for them
>The PS1 was the last console made that was worth playing. I haven't played a console made past that, and never played a computer game made past 14 years ago.
Then what the fuck do you play?
No matter how much Sup Forums tells me about it I can't get into Supreme Commander, the sheer scale difference between some units encourages you to play in a zoomed out way and by doing that you loose all the detail behind most of the units and structures, to the point where in a normal game you are mostly commanding a bunch of tiny lego bricks and some FUCKHUEG robots.
Admittedly I didn't get too far into the game but it's because I can't get past those initial moments.
true
Of course. No one on this board seriously believes otherwise.
Bloodborne is overrated. Dark Souls 2 is decent. Dark Souls 3 is underrated.
I have no fucking idea dude, I'm just whittling life away. I couldn't afford new technology anyways, I hold my rent and my food in higher regard than the games that are made these days. Beer and Sup Forums year 13 starts in April, if we still have the internet f2p at that point.
Super Mario Odyssey is a mediocre game. I think I had fun for like 15-20% of the total time I played, the other time was me running around like a retard throwing my cap at shit and constantly spinning my camera around to look for moons. Sometimes you find rooms that have challenges which can be fun and I wish they had more of those and less of "throw your cap at a glowing thing, groundpound a glowing spot or follow a few music notes".
I honestly and sincerely think that too much freedom in games is counterintuitive and is actually used to mask a lack of content. Same with needlessly open world games that are such just because it's the newest fad. It's like reading a 1000 pages novel where the plot could be told in 1/5 of the pages but the author just dragged things along because they were payed per page
I also believe no noteworthy games have been made past 2005, save a few exceptions. But i also know that's because i grew old and have been exposed so much that i'm perpetually unsatisfied
Jak II is my favourite game and i love and cherish every memeory of it
Scummy as it may be, i think that DLCs and Lootboxes are the well deserved consequence of today's gamers, because they play on the constant sense of dissatisfaction of the consumer, who will constantly want more. They also feed on the bloated ego and competive nature of most gamers. This is all derived from the fact that videogames is not a niche anymore but part of widespread human culture now, and eventually stopped being games and became easily exploitable business models.
I also strongly believe that videogames nowadays are just placebos for immature people who don't want to grow up and face reality, contributing in the creation of a new generation of manchildren
I see your stab at Ayn Rand and I thoroughly enjoy it.
I think that mobile gaming gachas are the future of gaming. Me personally, I have spent more time gaming on my phone than on my ps4.
Second opinion, I think that with MVCI, the fighting game genre is on it's last legs.
I don't even know who this Ayn Rand is
>hates ayn rand
>being a coprophile
Like clockwork.
After a brief search on wikipedia, now i know who this Ayn rand is, and i'm not surprised that i didn't know her
The fucking devil.
Seek no more answers for you now have them.
There should be a rule that you can't have RNG in e-sport games.
You can have tournaments, but you can't call it e-sports.
Bloodborne is the peak, the top, the magnus opum of Miyazaki during all his life and regarding all his games he made.
Despite your suggestion, i did seek more answers and i concluded that this woman is not the devil. She's just one of the many inheretly hypocritical philosphers that despite supporting absolute freedom they still preached their point of view, so her work is by default flawed and therefore worthless
God i hate pholosophers
Bloodborne is being hyped, because muh exclusives. Console peasants would drop it in a heartbeat if it got a PC release saying "it's not that good".
No one on this board seriously believes otherwise.
I think Lost Planet 2 is a very good game.
I never find any games that replicated the feeling i'm having playing it.
...the game is already almost 8 years old...
Why are russian cats so much cuter than western cats?
We gotta step up our game
No we wouldn’t. Thats not how good games work user. Stop being obsessed. If this board is anything to go bu with Ni-oH you would actually all juat pirate it anyway and when the sales are shit say
>it took to long
>it isn’t optimised
>it’s shit anyway
Bloodborne is great regardless of it heing exclusive or being ported to everything. Hope you get to play it one day on your chosen platfrorm.
I am a PC+3ds user, played all souls, Bloodborne is seriously good.
DS1>=BB>DeS>DS3>DS2
Walking simulators belong in the same category as visual novels, because that's literally what you do in both style of games, get railroaded and get asked "what do you want to do here?" with a few branches
I like Overwatch and I wish the community was less toxic.
Perhaps because you are a piece of shit communist.
DOTA2 is one of the best video games of all time.
99% of console games are trash and people who unironically enjoy them are brain dead manchildren.
2017 was on of the worst years in gaming, literally the only decent game this year was PUBG.
>DOTA2 is one of the best video games of all time.
How can you think that?
>american nigger cat
vs
>beautiful slavic cat
sour grapes
I like dragon age 2. I like the concept of being the hero of this one city.
define "less toxic"
Micro transactions in games are totally fine even if they are FULL priced games, so as long as the company only sells cosmetics. If weapons are sold then the weapons must only be sidegrades to the default ones
Dead Space 3 is a decent game.
I understand people wanting a survival horror, but you can’t make sequels out of horror series and have them stay scary. Just look at resident evil. How do you make necromorphs scary? Especially for a player who’s already pulped hundreds of them barefoot?DS3 gets way too much flak because of a completely logical gameplay Shift.
Everything else about the game is solid.
It handles great, and the shooting mechanics are perfect.
It looks great with some well thought out environments, and the best “space” feel of any game I’ve played.
The characters and story are the weakest aspects of it, but I still enjoyed it like a buddy cop/space thriller
Resident Evil 4 is the most overrated game of the 00's
"Half-Life 2 is great" is the dumbest kind of meme, with no basis on reality.
Witcher 1 actually has decent combat.
Witcher 3 is the most overrated game of the 10's.
Drakengard 1 has vastly underrated gameplay and it's actually better than the original NieR.
Shadow of Mordor is actually a great game, and it has nothing to do with the Nemesis system.
>played DS3 co-op all the way through
>always got a laugh out of Carver popping in and out of existence during cutscenes
>would take a shot and shout "I'm here too!"
>still cracking that joke to this day
It was a fun experience, but we agreed to trade it in after we completed it.
The gun-crafting system was top fucking notch though, shame it wasn't included in any other game.
Less people that get mad at others for common mistakes or wanting to play a certain character. It's hard to define but it's pretty obvious.
Sorry m8, I only have audio opinions.
Are you retarded ?
i can't fucking stand xenoblade's combat, the whole autoattack shit with skill cooldowns never felt fun and 2's combat looks horrendously slow and clunky
Fallout 3 is legit good.
GW2 is the best active MMORPG and lack of monthly fee vastly increases its value. Not that it has any serious competition.
Fromborne Soulsdemondark is overrated as fuck and the From Software "fanbase" doesn't deseve to breathe. DaS1 and Bloodborne are good, and that's it.
Witcher 3 has lots of room for improvement.
We need more western vidya with fanservice/nudity/sexual content.
Toxicity is a very real problem in online video games that can make for a worse game play experience and drive away much needed new players. When people refer to toxic behavior in gaming they aren't talking about "hurr gg ez, git gud" (you) ass clowns, they're talking about when people use racist slurs, grief you, doxx you etc.
To piggyback on this, MOBAs are directly responsible for both ramping up this toxicity and pulling in enough normies to seriously dilute the "finding other players you might actually like" pool.
They're often actually talking about gg ez, though. Many people are pussies
You're not wrong about lootboxes being a pay-to-win system but they're not even the most blatant example of it. The only reason anyone gives a shit is because the most popular games are implementing them.
That's just misunderstanding the idea. Standards and norms change and what was once acceptable in a game may no longer be for various reasons. Denying this is almost denying that technical limitations existed, in a way.
>despite supporting absolute freedom they still preached their point of view
I honestly don't know why I expected more from an unpopular opinions thread
Switch is literally a totally standardized portable that plugs into your TV. There's no "gimmick" whatsoever.
>Drakengard 1 has vastly underrated gameplay and it's actually better than the original NieR.
I can understand preferring Drakengard's combat but thinking anyone else might is delusional
Not only is "toxicity" a stupid term for people being assholes (read: people acting like people) but most people who complain about it are actually whining about stupid shit like gg ez
It happened with GTA and DaS1, I don't see why Bloodborne would be any different.
PC gaming is a shit-tier meme.
Console releases are without exception higher quality products compared to their PC ports, developing a game for a single static hardware configuration takes less time and money than having to make sure the game will run on everything from a 2008 netbook to this year's hottest new chip rebrands. Time and money that could and should have been spent on making the game itself better rather than lowering the barrier to entry.
No game benefits from a PC release, at best it'll be just as good as it is on its native console, but more often than not the port will be a piece of shit on top of adding nothing of value to the core game. The ability to load higher resolution textures, download shady binaries from random turd-world basement """developers""", and run the game at 6 gorrilion frames per second, if and when the port allows it, does nothing to make a game better.
Its a shitty gimmick that shitty hardware manufacturers meme to impressionable children so they'll spend thousands of their parents' dollars every two years on building and upgrading their shitty meme machines in order to slog through the latest shitty unoptimized ports with massive computing overhead, that still manage to run better on weaker console hardware thanks to standardization and years of experience optimizing for a set hardware configuration.
Also laying back with a controller is infinitely more comfy than sitting hunched over a desk with a keyboard and mouse.
just reddiors and soyboys use the word "toxicity", before people talk shit and nobody cry, they laugh after few min, now people cry if you say nigga in game chat.
Dark Souls 2 is the pinnacle of fantasy pvp
>having to make sure the game will run on everything from a 2008 netbook
Who the fuck are you kidding you mouth-breathing chromosome hoarder? Do you live in lala-land? How fucking out of touch are you that you think developers actually give a shit about PCs from 10 years ago? They care so little about PC optimization their game runs like shit even on modern hardware.
Most games run better on pc though and thats what matters to me the most. If you wanna play console play console i just dont like them. Is it that hard to understand?
maybe
Sup Forums is going to drive this term into the ground just like cuck
Stay triggered, KIKE
>jews are a race
>EVERYONE WHO CALLS ME OUT ON MY OBVIOUS SOYKIKERY IS MUH Sup Forums BOOGEYMANG BECAUSE I SAID SO XDDDD ;____; XDDDD ;____;
KILL yourself, /utg/ samefag KIKE, KILL yourself.
>BEING a triggered /utg/ KIKE
I didn't like BoTW.
I don't really like sandbox games in general, and quite frankly, BoTW didn't really do anything different. For the "Freedom of choice" the game gives you, it's really limiting in other aspects, and the game tends freak out if you sequence break. I will say that exploring the map was nice, but more often than not, there were sections of the map that were like 70% empty.
If it actually played more like a Zelda game, I would have enjoyed it more
>inb4 BUT IT SAYS ZELDA ON THE BOX RETARD HURRRRR
It's like comparing SMT to Persona 4. Or Skyrim to Morrowind. You can do it all you want, but the games play completely differently.
I like Kingdom hearts 358/2 days.
I like Marie in Persona 4 the golden.
>I like Marie in Persona 4 the golden
worst opinion in this thread
What in the fuck is /utg/?
Also Naoto is my waifu.
>Consoles are for dumb people

okay redeemed

Razor-Razorblade business model with inferior hardware
>Valve was always shit
Popularizing online activation DRM, third party clients on top of your games and killing the second hand market
>Blizzard was always shit
Bargain bin Westwood
>New Vegas is terribly mediocre, like Fallout 3 and 4
Standard Bethesda shit: fun to explore, shit story and gameplay
>MMO is the worst videogame genre
Grinding
I share all of these views
>NV is mediocre
I kind of agree with this one. I love NV but only because it's the best turd in a pile of shit known as the Bethesda Fallout games. The game has a ton of problems mostly due to the terrible engine, but even when Obsidian made their own games, they weren't much better. The only thing saving that game is the thought put into the world design, but everything else can get fucked.
Old Games are superior to modern games
That cat looks way too smart for my taste.
Bethesda should ditch all RPG mechanics entirely and focus on gameplay and story. Leveling up is poorly handled in their games and adds nothing to the overall experience besides making some fights trivial and some fights a chore.
They already have minigames for things like hacking, lockpicking, speech, etc and should focus on making those better than adding some arbitrary number requirements.
All effort spent on perk trees and balance could just be applied to making better gameplay that gives you a better sense of progression as you get good.
Literally nothing wrong with this statement
Chalice Dungeons in Bloodborne are fun. People say they probably took a lotta dev time away from the main game but I doubt it, they're mostly randomly generated anyways and a lot of the new enemies are reskinned from the base game. It's just optional, pure gameplay for people who enjoyed BB's gameplay.
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record is fun but it was the start of a lot of the stuff that went wrong in 4.
Every 3D Sonic game is either awful or boring, sometimes both. I hate that they said "oh no more overusing Sonic's friends" then just gave all the awful alternative gameplay styles to Sonic himself. 3&K is the best game.
Assassin's Creed 4 has a very strong atmosphere and my personal favorite AC story but the gameplay is probably the worst in the series, both on-foot & in the boat. Boat gameplay is too simple to be entertaining for 20-ish hours and the on-foot gameplay is just a worse version of 3's which was already mediocre.
