It's nice seeing that not using sprite has some advantages outside of being just cheaper to make. It always bums me out when armor customization doesn't effect appearance.

The funny thing is the new guys,DICO, are unknown mobile game devs. People were worried about literally whos, but they still seem to be better than Inti.

At least when it comes to 2.5/3D and modeling. Their new 2d game looks like it might be alright.

That said, now I can see why IGA went for 2.5D rather than sprites, because this character customization stuff might have been difficult to do with sprites, depending on how many costumes and accessories there are.

Inafune didn't do the worst parts of the game, like the fucking level design. Or the visual effects.

Did MM9 keep a good clip of development updates like this? I know there was some shit with the community manager and then the thing when they said there'd be no enemy transformations, but I also recall a lot of dead time and sudden delays of releases.

They never showed off 2D graphics. There was concept art and nothing else. The devs said it was going to be 2.5D from day one. Inti were removed because they're fucking garbage, and the new team has proven to be more than capable. Also, the game had a whopping one (1) delay.

I don't think it looks bad, but I do think it would look much, much better if it weren't a 2.5D thing. UHD sprites could have made the game look goddamned amazing and shown the industry that everything doesn't need to be shitty polygons to sell nowadays.
