Well, I'm not super far in so it's hard to really judge the story yet, but so far I like it, I think it picks up a lot after the initial bits and has some nice twists to it.

It's a good game, world is big and vibrant, lots of customization and character progression options.

Right. There are anime tropes within the game - that much is blatant. But it also tackles lots of interesting topics - the nature of Blades, Titans and humans and their mutual co-existence is where most of the ammunition comes from. Blades are spawned from core crystals and the personalities of their Drivers (the ones that made them pop) are somewhat imprinted upon them. Once the Driver dies, the Blade returns to their core crystal, losing all memories they gained of their past life. The idea of Blades being used as tools is explored, as is killing Drivers to revert Blades to their core crystal forms and essentially steal them from the previous owners. You could have a Blade that's in service to a policeman who's killed by a crook, who then uses that Blade to help them with their future nefarious acts. Black markets where core crystals are sold for the Blades to be used as sex slaves - this one's actually touched upon in the main story, even. There's a lot more I've not covered here, but you probably get the idea.
