but it was a useless gimmick. most of it was just walking down empty streets which took enough time that it could be replaced with a loading screen and when you got to a place it was always initially empty and sims would only show up once your sim did

I'd keep high details lots to 2 and draw distance to penultimate (which played well with Seasons EP) and game never had any significant stuttering or particularly long load/save times. I could never get into the whole TS3 running like garbage thing when my game ran smooth af.

The amount of RAM available to the game was very limited. Even if you had 16gb or RAM, the game could only use 3gb and some change (exact amount dependent on your video card).
This means the game had to save all the data it would usually save on RAM on your harddrive, which is slower than physical dedicated RAM by several orders of magnitude.
The end result is a s tight performance bottleneck that slowed the entire game down.

The game was poorly programmed and data that should have been deleted as you play (e.g. you leave a lot, that lot should not stay on your memory) simply did not. The longer you played in one session, the more redundant & excess data piled up. This deeply aggravated the first problem.

Well you can also turn The Sims into a depravity simulator with all the sex mods now.

I made a female vampire in TS4, leveled her up to master vampire, kicked Vlad's ass and made her rich as fuck.
Then I created like 5 custom Sims (that didn't look like shit) and placed them across the towns, gave them strategic jobs like politician, businessman and the like, and had my vampire convert them and created a club called "The Camarilla".

I only wish you could customize apartments so I could create LaCroix's penthouse properly.

I mean, it's pretty good for what it is. But what it is a real life simulator with grinding money and managing time.

I play vidya to get away from that.

One time I built a dungeon complex in my house. It was basically just a bunch of men-only doors so that women could go through them one way but then not come back.

The cells had a shitty bed, sink, and toilet. I would invite over women sims, get them to follow my guy into one of the cells, then he would say goodbye to them and they would try to leave but fail. At it's peak I had 6 women locked up, but then one day I sent my guy downtown to meet more friends and while he was there he saw his entire prison population just wandering around. Turns out going downtown reloads stranger data or something so by the time he got home there had been a mass breakout.

6 phone calls later they were once again locked up though.
