The investigation games blown the original trilogy out of the water.
*game
And it doesn't
>the original is the worst Ace Attorney game in the franchise
>the sequel is the second-best
How does that balance out?
The first one isn't that great. 2nd one is fantastic though.
Wrong.
AAI1 was terrible. AAI2 was amazing but it's a spin-off so it doesn't count either.
PLvAA is the worst thing period to carry the AA name but AAI1 is the worst one that is strictly Ace Attorney.
I think we can all agree on the following:
AAI2 > T&T > JFA (case 4) > AA > SoJ > JFA (rest of the game) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AJ >>>>>>>>>>>>>> DD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AAI >>>>>>> literal garbage >>>>>>>>> PLvsAA
They win by having much better gameplay. For once investigation segments were actually fun because you got to explore the crime scene and take your time finding evidence, pointing out contradictions, connecting the dots with your logic and occasionally sending people to the chess dimension. you knew when it was time to leave that area instead of many instances were you would be teleporting all over the game like a moron because there was one piece of evidence you forgot to present to one of the three NPCs you can talk to (which is a big reason why Turnabout Samurai and many other cases sucked ass).
Which is fine, I agree that AAI felt like Ace Attorney-evolved, but Ace Attorney is all about storytelling and AAI crapped out on that pretty heavily by having a zero-impact final antagonist and a really contrived happenstance story arc that felt forced.
literal brainlet detected. the gameplay fusion was fucking superb and the story is good.
Reminder that Spirit of Justice is the worst game in the series by fucking far and has no redeeming aspects at all.
Is Spirit of Justice worth playing? I thought DD was okay.
Third best game in the series for me, definitely better than DD.
>having a zero-impact final antagonist
To be honest tree man wasn't that bad, I actually expected the other ambassador to be the culprit because of his suspicious behavior, I also loved how Alba just refused to give up and kept throwing everybody against the wall (even if extending the case was a little annoying but them again Rise from the Ashes was worse in that regard).
It's better than DD by a lot, though the DLC case is weaker than DD's.
No. You're a pleb.
AA = T&T > I2 > SOJ > JFA = DD > PLvAA > [POWER GAP] AAI > AJ
Anything other than individual case ranking is worthless though.
I like them all, but I agree the original trilogy is far superior than the rest.
What would you say is the best case in the whole series?
Yes, even the filler case is good
They played up Colias Palaeno up pretty well, I'll give them that.
The shit I took yesterday is better than JFA
Nope.
So I am playing Apollo JUSTice at the moment, just reached case and I have to say the twist involving this guy caught me offguard harder than both Simon Keyes and Godot combined
AA>PLvsAA>everything else
>reached case and [...]
*reached case 3 and [...]
Yeah, i was pretty shocked when he lifted his brows, jesus christ how horrifying
I just got these games and man, is Sup Forums the absolute worse place to talk about it.
Should I get the rest of the series if I'm already fucking pumped about what comes after Turnabout Samurai? Is Apollo Justice worth it at 25 bucks? And how many cases do each game have on average?
Apollo Justice was ok. I didn't enjoy DD at all though, it felt like all the writers got replaced and most of the characters got worse.
Yes
Also why not, each game has about 5 cases but very often one is filler or short to lead into 5.
SoJ and the first game are the only ones that don't suffer from that.
Also I say you should get Layton vs Phoenix Wright if you also let Layton and a great setting.
>Should I get the rest of the series if I'm already fucking pumped about what comes after Turnabout Samurai?
I would recommend waiting until after case 4
> Is Apollo Justice worth it at 25 bucks?
If it's too much you can always just emulate it
>And how many cases do each game have on average?
Something between four and five, the last cases are usually the biggest and most intense.
It's average at best.
Horrible characters, shit villain and prosecutor, and 2 awful cases.
Only Investigations 2 had an actual twist involving the big bad and that was because he wasn't the only bad guy involved.
>Horrible characters
meant horrible story
characters were passable, some of them
>and 2 awful cases.
You take that back nigga
PLvAA was great
TT = AAI2 > PLvAA > 1 = SoJ > DD > 2 > AJ = AAI
6-1 and DLC are hot garbage.
6-4 was a joke case
6-3 and 6-5 were average
only 6-2 was great
GTFO as fast as you can from this thread and play all the games. As an overall series, it's worth playing them all even if they're not all as good as the others.
Thanks.
What are the chances of the Ryunosuke game coming to the west? I really dig the Meiji look.
>Being the spoiling faggot instead of just warning him
I hope the next Ace Attorney game gets spoiled for you.
Crazy plot that marginalizes Ace Attorney fans by the end.
It's a Layton love letter.
>It's a Layton love letter.
Except the plot is retarded even for Layton standards.
>no love for DD
Why? I can't even think of a single bad case. I guess it's the polar opposite of TaT, because I really didn't enjoy that one as much as the majority. DD focuses on the "fun" and silliness of the PW series (yeah it had some edgy stuff but even that was over-the-top) while TaT felt much more serious. Just compare the music for both games.
Faggots have purposely spoiled 999, DR and other AA games to me.
Literally very small.
Unless Capcom notices there is interest they won't do it, it took years for PLvsPW and a lot of it was Level 5 taking charge and telling Capcom to step up their game.
>Joke case
The plot is more coherent than Layton standards. While the epic plot twist is Layton, the path to get there was very much AA excluding the last case which was just Layton spoonfeeding everyone.
Susato > Ema > Trucy > Athena > Maya >>>>> Kay
Rayfa > Everyone else
Personally I loved the edgy parts of it, it felt right and was done in the fight way.
The only thing that really turns me off the game was case 4 and the villain.
Case 5 in general though was great.
There is not a single bad game in the series.
AAI2 > AA = T&T > JFA > SoJ > AAI > DD > AJ
DD is overly anime and trying to be "epic" and "grand"
>lol wowzers omg PHOENIX vs EDGEWORTH in the BLOWN UP COURTROOM wooooow
All cases are mediocre to average at best. Only noteworthy good case was the DLC.
I liked case 3.
And Athena is fun.
Plus the way cases 4 and 5 bridge together is different for the series.
>No Pearls
>No Watson
>No Buff
cutscenes in case 3 are cringe inducing.
Why are DD and AAI2 the only games with REALLY cool final villain reveals, who have been under your nose the whole time? I love this kind of stuff and kept hoping for it to be Datz or some shit in SoJ
True but cutscenes are like 1 minute tops at worst you get a good laugh out of it when you hear hugh crying.
spirit of JUST is okay but the shoehorning of even more ridiculous apollo backstory soured my opinion on it by the end. I actually went from being interested in where they would go with apollo after AJ to actively dreading what new oh so tragic bullshit they're going to come up for him
That...is actually true.
eh phantom was underwhelming, nice twist but shit execution.
Was my least favorite villain until AA6 released
I think it's very underrated. I went in expecting to hate both Athena (ebin gimmick assistant girl number 89) and Blackquill (ebin edgy prosecutor) but I ended up loving both. Even though the game has a lot of flaws and they could have done a lot of stuff better IMO, I liked the darker tone of it, and the characters were surprisingly memorable. The only bad thing about it was case 2, it was boring as hell.
The only bad thing about DD was Pearls. Fucking seriously? If I hadn't remembered this is like 10 years after JFA, I would have never guessed she was 17. She looks and acts exactly the same as she did as a kid. Literally nothing would have changed in the plot if she wasn't included, all she does is charge your Magatama.
Excuse you
>Fulbright and Simon's introductions
>boss as fuck defendant
>jinxie
>one of the best non-killer reveals in the series
only downsides were the killer being revealed in the opening cutscene and the villain himself. Florent is boring.
Is she not the spitting image of the legendary Phoenix Wright?
The man who will lead us out of the dark age of the law into an era of brilliant golden light?
God I love how this series doesn't take itself seriously
Scotsman
Who’s the best side character and why it is Dr. Hotti?
But Apollo justice is easily better than JFA, which was carried hard as fuck by the last case
...
Wow, someone who is right.
>Dismissing the best villain in the entire series
Wrong. AAI2 and AA6 are better than everything except AA3.
AA2 is also one of the worst in the series.
AJ is the complete opposite where it peaks at the first case and then goes downhill for the rest of the game
4-4 is great though.
It's okay, but short. All the good stuff in AJ is short, the longest being the second case. When you have something good you want it to last, unlike cases like 2-3 and 4-3 that you wish were shorter.
