The game was alright, but the forced affinity to progress the story was atrocious in a game that otherwise tried to promote freedom and freeform exploration over using a fixed party.
Fix that shit and it'd be a solid point higher than it sits currently for me.
Also they needed to introduce skells earlier in the game and better design the world to accommodate them. They completely trivialize a lot of platforming and exploration once you have them, but to reach a lot of areas even in early zones you needed them. It's janky, but in the same way every xenoblade game has been.
