It's about $30 shekels right now. Since my monitor isn't...great but my TV is bretty fucking gud and most reviews seem solid, can't seem a downside to it-- playing my PC games in 70 inches. via the network.
Any horror stories people have that Iv'e never head re: this thing?
Zachary Smith
no, because and HDMI cable is cheaper and has no input lag
Brayden Perez
Are you fucking stupid or something?
These were going for 5 bucks like a week ago
Its wonky but it works great once it works
Adam Davis
It was $5 at GameStop like a week ago user
Isaiah Gutierrez
>Any horror stories people have that Iv'e never head re: this thing? using it on wireless in a congested area and h264 artifacts mainly
Jordan Adams
50ft HDMI cable is better.
Zachary Cox
Now give me a controller that works that distance with minimal to no lag.
Cooper Edwards
The best part about it is connecting any kind of controller with it. Don't have to go through all these drivers and probably have connection issues depending on how far away your computer is, plus you need a bluetooth adapter.
Brandon Sanders
Its kind of bad unless its wired to your network. Besides that, its pretty good and even streams your desktop. You also don't need to buy their controller, most pads work with it.
Jonathan Davis
Get USB extension cables?
William Cox
Should've bought it during black friday, it was like 5 bucks.
Michael Harris
They lag that distance.
Noah James
i just plug an XB1 / 360 controller into my PC. its not that hard
Ryder Hughes
Unless you're playing competitive, it will mean exactly jack shit in difference.
Ian Sullivan
USB extension cables are not in spec but for low power/bandwidth devices it might be okay
Juan Jackson
>Unless Stopped reading there.
Justin Davis
my network is all wired, so works in my favor. As for gamester, nearest one os something like 400 miles. Overall seems like a good move. Might have to nigger-rig a few things but it will work out...
Luis Ortiz
How do you get it to stream the desktop? I thought it only worked with Steam.
Oliver Reed
i bought this and have never used it.
Fuck this thing
Easton Anderson
>gamester, gamestop. And FIVE FUCKING DOLLARS? Same model and all, 4k compatible? these jews must get so fucking rich off selling this shit if they can still turn even a small profit at $5...
Aiden Barnes
Just exit out of big picture mode and it turns into a desktop mirror
Nolan Myers
I fell for "gaming chair meme" and it's uncomfortable as fuck, esp. right after gym. Much rather sit my ass on couch and use the fucking steam controller to play...witcher 3 or crusader kings 2 or whatever.
Jaxon Martinez
Steam is needed to stay open on the desktop. That's the only requirement. After that, just exit Big Picture Mode.
Ian Jenkins
1080p60
Justin Lopez
You're gonna get a 50ft USB cable to go along with your 50ft HDMI cable? I mean, the main reason anyone would get a steam link is because they wanna game using their TV which is most likely located in another room.
And you don't even get wireless that way too.
Charles Rogers
The better option is simply making your computer more comfortable to use. Getting a recliner made couches obsolete for me.
Logan Collins
Steamlink does not work with minimal to no lag so I don't see your point.
Liam Hill
Steam Link is great, I've used it for about two years with a steam controller. It takes time to get it just right, especially if you have a mid-range PC. You have to have it connected by ethernet so be prepared for that. I used it also to stream movies and tv shows to my living room.
Brayden Nelson
Yes it does
Anthony Parker
I get 2-5 millisecond delay. This is completely unnoticeable. Have you even used a steam link?
Colton Scott
UGH WIDER
Carter Campbell
try in game streaming with a laptop first, see if your wifi network can handle that and if it can go ahead
Nicholas Brooks
Bought this during one of those cheap game bundles last black friday, used it twice, now it collects dust.
I'd rather play on my 28 inch 1440p 144hz monitor than my 50 inch 120hz 1080p TV
Luis Phillips
I use it to play Lego games with my girlfriend, haven't tried many other games with it though.
Jeremiah Evans
what the hell is the point? I use a TV as a monitor all the time (in fact I'm using it right now) and I use it for steam, too. Just connect your PC to the TV with a VGA cable.
Luke Gomez
I have and it was horrible for anything that was not either slow as fuck or not realtime based.
Mason Hall
>I use a TV as a monitor Enjoy your latency.
Ryder Walker
You're either full of shit or you were using it wireless-ly on a shitty network.
Andrew Perez
Only 1080p input, not worth it Any case where steam link is useful/necessary (going across rooms) you bet your fucking ass an HDMI cable would have input lag and substandard quality
Noah Hall
Hasn't been a problem, and I play Street Fighter V and DOA and BlazBlue. But maybe those few milliseconds make a difference for some people, I dunno.
Kevin Kelly
It's good OP.
You can stick a wireless receiver for Xbox 360 into it; turn on a controller and it'll boot up the link and boot up your PC into Steam Big Picture.
Means you can be in the lounge room and transition into playing multiplayer games without getting up and going over to the PC and shit. These days as an adult no one has time for that shit, you've gotta fling a controller at them and have them playing before they second guess it.
Only used it a dozen times this year though, have a baby daughter and shit so that dampens video games.
Get Starwhal as a great entry level four player game. Towerfall for slightly more hardcore friends. Screetcheat for any friends who can play FPS.
Jose Sullivan
Wrong.
Xavier Scott
Then you probably used it wirelessly retard.
Carson Bell
It's for people who want to use their PC on their living room TV but their PC is in their bedroom and they are too lazy to carry it and rewire it back and forth.
I personally would have just bought a 50ft hdmi cable but my cat would chew it up so I bought a steam link instead.
>muh latency cord distance
Doesn't matter outside of competitive games, which you shouldn't be playing on your TV anyways due to several reasons.
Lucas Morales
>having a cat I bet you let it sound because "oh it's good for it" too, faggot.
Owen Butler
>pair with small router with VPN >Your PC games on any TV or HDMI monitor at any time
It goes on sale for very cheap. It's pretty sweet to use soley for that when I go to friend's house or out and about hotelling.
James Brown
I got a fair bit of use out of mine until it suddenly refused to recognise my PC on the network. I bought a Switch at around the same time so didn't care to try to fix it (beyond the standard factory reset yadda yadda) and it's been collecting dust since.
Good tool when it works though.
Connor Walker
The only sounding my cat does is by proxy: when it watches me shove metal rods down my dick hole.
Liam Moore
whoa xD Sup Forums is crazy!!!!!!
Alexander Smith
Umm it was like 1$ months ago.
Easton Phillips
It works fine for what it is over a wired network. Haven't tried WiFi and wouldn't try it either, especially not in a place with congested WiFi or far from the router.
On Ethernet it works quite well, does 1080p 60FPS. Quality isn't lossless (though it may appear lossless in certain scenes/games) and there's obviously some extra delay, though if everything is working well you don't really feel it. I'd say it's pretty decent for use cases such as SP, controller-friendly games, depending on the genre to some degree. The delay is kind of like having VSync on or off, it's easier to notice in some games and harder in others. Be warned that you need a pretty decent host PC if you don't want issues, especially if you want to use software encoding (which has better video quality). You'll probably want at least a quad-core i7 if the game you're running is demanding at all.
If the TV is in the same room as the PC, I suggest connecting directly, otherwise IHS is probably less of a pain.
Michael Flores
A friend wanted to do just that, I'm pretty sure it would work too, no reason not to work. He never made time to try it though.
