So now that time has passed, what did you think of Sonic Mania Sup Forums? What was the good, what was the bad? What would you like to see in a possible sequel?

For me, the level design was on-point to classic Sonic. It felt better than Generations, and an evolution of Sonic 3K. Nearly every level felt fun to play from start to end, with barely a hiccup in between. I feel like the abundance of old levels hindered the games creativity though, and would love to see a sequel consist entirely of original levels.

Having Sonic, Tails and Knuckles was great too, with Taxmans accurate physics, so they don't really need to improve anything on that front. However, I would like to see more player possibilities in a sequel, like Amy and Metal Sonic, or even the Chaotix (and how they played in the original Chaotix respectively).

Music was amazing as well, though I feel like they should bring in another composer or two for a sequel, to lighten the load off of Tee, and allow some more variety in song styles.

Basically, Sonic Mania did everything Generations did for Classic Sonic, but better, by being a huge nostalgia tripped mixed in with some new fun. However, I'm ready for Classic Sonic to have a 100% brand new adventure. Maybe even give him a new villain besides Eggman just to shake up the formula a bit (like giving the Hard Boiled Heavies a bigger role, or even the Kukkus from Tails Adventure).

dogshit, on rails platforming
good sonic platformer never EVER, furfags

If i wanted to play 3&k again I would have gotten out my genesis

!!!

Absolutely fantastic Sonic game, the flaws are negligible; its arguably the least flawed Sonic game ever.
I'm willing to debate this.

It was pretty good, but nothing earth-shattering. Some of the levels weren't fun (Oil Ocean), and every boss in the game sucked.

The problem in that they stuck way too close to the 3&K/CD formula. I don't want another Mega Drive Sonic game, I've played the plenty we have already many times. They should have done something like Before / After the Sequel, with more original and interesting level design and archetypes.

Still a fine game, though.

>Before / After the Sequel
>interesting level design
That was one of BTS/ATS weakest aspects though.

Yeah, but at least all the levels were original, not just "the same level, but with an extra segment" or "a new level with the gimmicks of an old level".

That's why I quoted design, but not archetypes

>tfw sonic had a better game than mario for the first time in nearly 20 years

2017 has been pretty good

Game of the decade. Game of the century. There is little more to say.

This

it's good

It's probably the best Sonic game. It at least is in the same league as 2 and 3K.
Outside of Mirage Saloon 1 its low point is like... Hydrocity which is just decent and still one of the better water levels in the series.
The glitches are pretty annoying though, and I'm not sure if they fixed all of them. It pisses me off that I can't play Studiopolis 1 in time attack because of it.
Lava Reef 1 is a biiit too blocky for me. And switch pressing is a lame stage gimmick for a Sonic game.
Stardust Speedway 2 is too short.
Press Garden 1's boss is kinda dumb. Not hard but really stupid. It's actually easier to just brute force it which is not something you want.

That's all the problems I can think of off the top of my head. I'd need to give it another run through to jog my memory. It's not a perfect game but like said, it's at least the least flawed Sonic game ever.

>and every boss in the game sucked.
They are the best in the series.

That's a really fucking low bar though.
However, I wouldn't say all of them sucked.

I really enjoyed Death Egg Robot, Heavy Magician, Heavy Gunner, and the weather machine in particular.

Fuck the giant Caterkiller though.

Threadly reminder you dick sucking faggots.

>It's probably the best Sonic game. It at least is in the same league as 2 and 3K.

It's definitely better than 2.
The quality drop off is massive after Mystic Cave and there's nothing as awful as Metropolis in Mania.

Not an argument

Did every playthrough when it came out except a Tails playthrough cause that's easy mode, loved it to death. Just the other day, I finally did a Tails playthrough and I loved it to death.

This game is fantastic and it belongs in the Classic Sonic pantheon.

10/10

I liked a lot of the bosses, but I just think "Every stage bosses" bog the game down. I find the Sonic 2 formula of "Act 1 Sign, Act 2 Boss" to be the far superior format for a Sonic game. Maybe I'm being an idiot for literally asking for less content, tho.

bosses are way better than droning thru some stage for no reward

bosses are reward

I find warp speeding past the sign to be far more satisfying than a half-baked boss battle. This is more a problem I have with Sonic 3&K than Sonic Mania tho, Mania's bosses tended to be fun.

It all boils down to the design of the boss. Some can be fun, some can be hit or miss

>They should have done something like Before / After the Sequel, with more original and interesting level design and archetypes
Stop posting LakeFepard and go work on your 10th fangame that's not Kirby but still plays like Kirby.

What about SonicCD?

Great game. Arguably the best in the series.
Tee Lopes did fantastically with the soundtrack
Not really any abysmal slogs for levels (I didn't care much for Hydrocity, though that's just my opinion)
Most bosses were fun (FUCK Oil Ocean's boss, that octopus can gargle a barrel of dicks)
New zones had a fresh aesthetic and were fun to play through for the most part

Ruined by being anchored to Forces and having Denuvo on Steam
