No one has trouble understanding the game or its themes, they just aren't games and are being criticized as such.

Most walking sims (EG: gone home) could and should just be made into indie movies; because that's all they are. The only thing "game" about these "games" is that you move the character around. You don't do anything else.

They're probably just too afraid of making them into movies/etc because they know they will be laughed at for their horrible and horrendous bullshit.

I don't identify as a "gamer" but I feel his self projection could be solved by better storytelling from said devs to properly capture the consumers they are trying to cater to.

Is walking around and picking things up seriously called gameplay nowadays? Gone Home is a nothing product. You don't do anything. You walk around, look at a thing that screams LOOK IM A REFERENCE TO A THING HAHA, and then listen to the story about some lesbian sister that ran away from the big bad parents grrr. That's it. It's nothing. It's a fucking joke in every department.

I won't call a visual novel a game, it's premise is in the name, visual novel. It's an interactive story-book. But I will in no way in hell ever call something like Gone Home (or anything similar) a game.

They don't, and when they do, it's usually casual walking simulators or Overwatch
