I've finished first Spellforce recently, all expansions too. Fuck, those games were great, but also flawed. Spellforce 2 on the other hand, holy shit, that singleplayer mmo piece of crap with taunts and "skills will not affect enemies above level xx" made me drop it almost instantly.

Spellforce 1 was great, buggy as shit and with some flaws, but great overall.

Played that open beta they had going a few weeks ago and it was pretty fun, but the drab and lifeless colours really put me off big time. That campaign mission was pretty depressing to play with those visuals.
Is it still the same in the release version?

Yeah, Platinum edition is 3 full campaigns. I'm not even through the first one and have like 40 hours now.

If you get them from steam, be aware that everytime that you wanna play, you should introduce the serial number.
