you don't get as many customisation options for how characters look compared to later games, but it's balanced out by a very pleasing aesthetic, great music, and some interesting gimmicks if you get the expansion packs (which you should do because we all know you're going to pirate the complete collection.)

It's mostly nostalgia and for paying on toasters now, but it's aged like milk. Sims 2 is the way to go if you want to play 1, it's basically just a direct upgrade from it, not to mention Sims 2 with all expansions is free on origin.
