Best strategy game? seriously?

Best strategy game? seriously?

What was the competition?

It's called the Nintendo Bonus.

It was just extremely obvious that this paper thin XCOM knockoff somehow beat the better balanced and developed XCOM2:WOTC

>strategy game for children beats the game that directly inspired it
no that's such bullshit, what the fu-
>but nintendo
oh that's okay

Xcom 2, Tooth and tail, War Hammer 2 and Halo Wars 2

Halo Wars 2 (Creative Assembly + 343 Industries / Microsoft Studios)
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (Ubisoft Paris + Milan / Ubisoft)
Total War: Warhammer II (Creative Assembly / Sega)
Tooth and Tail (Pocketwatch Games)
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (Firaxis Games / 2K Games)

The actual contenders are Tooth and Tail and XCOM2. I don't understand how Rabbids even won.

I can see why they wouldn't pick XCOM since iirc that won Best Strategy last year, so WH2 should've won that easy.

you never played it

it's literally the biggest surprise of 2017, the game is fucking incredible

>I don't understand how Rabbids even won.
By being better.

Maybe it's just more fun

Nothing surprising there, really. TGA 2017 basically has turned into one giant Nintendo wankfest by the nu-journalists.

It's really sad to see the corrupted state of gaming industry nowadays.

its legit a good game but best strategy game? lol no. especially since xcom 2 was on the list.
the game pretty much won because its a unique mario game.
this is why I dont understand why people care about these video game awards.
the categories dont matter. games just win because of its popularity.

...

...

XCOM 2 lanched in 2016, and the expansion this year made the game a bloated mess.

it's probably just "better" in that it's easier and more accessible than actual Xcom or something. This is an awards show, it's won by votes. Turns out mario has more fans than xcom it's not exactly surprising.

What? WotC vastly improved Xcom2, the only downside is that there is no LW2 for WotC if that's your thing

I was under the impression that the real awards were decided on by the jury they kept talking about.

Wotc is actually really good, the lost are a interesting mechanic and really change the tactical game when present and the chosen are a great addition that add pressure and danger.
New faction soldiers are well done and add new tactical variety. The covert ops may be a bit op at times but even they add much needed choice to the strategic layer. Only downside really is that long war will not officially be ported but since pavonis has given permission to the community it will just take a while longer.
This.

Part jury, part popular vote.

Is Tooth & Tail actually a decent RTS / strategy game?

Only shows the sad state of strategy games

It actually IS a great game.

So, xcom, xcom and tnt. No wonder one of xcoms won.

Nobody in the audience or hosting that show had ever so much as touched a strategy game.

Or more likely:
>try xcom
>every mission they go on they lose at least half their squad due to "unfair rng"
>in between missions they get two or more popups for scanable bonus shit besides the 3 areas they can possibly make contact next, "its so confusing, I dont know what i am supposed to do and never get to do everything before even more choice is presented"
>next mission is a terror mission, lose 3/4 of all civs, wtf
>next mission has a timer, panics and makes shit choices, gets killed
>goes to the forum and calls the game shit

>Best strategy game? seriously?
It outsold Xcom 2 while being a exclusive. People actually played it

It was the best game, easily. Xcom 2 was disappointing and Total Warhammer 2 is just so unfinished and everything got delayed. They haven't even added Norsca yet.

Unfinished? The Vortex campaign itself is larger and more better than the entirety of WH1.
The Mortal Empires campaign is basically bonus content.

Really the answer is just "because Nintendo"

Don't judge a book by its cover. It's a good strategy game.

>a great game won an award
Shocking

>B-but Nintendo bonus
>I-it doesn't deserve award!

Jesus, let the developers have it, they created a legitimately good game, no matter whether it's got fucking Mario characters or not. The game still is technically made by Ubisoft, all Nintendo did was keeping a eye on them and making sure the quality of the game was up to level. If it's because "m-muh depth", go and fucking play Xcom 2 instead. If it's because "b-but Rabbids", go whine about it elsewhere, you're whining more than the Rabbids do in this game.

Fire Emblem Echoes should have won.
But it wasn't even nominated.

It actually is.

I keep reading around that it's actually a great game, but I don't understand. i've played throught 80% of it and doesn't really feel that interesting or great to me.
It's just nice. a 7/10, tops.

you have shit taste

>no argument
Okay.

No it's horrible, they went way too far in simplifying it for new rts players

It's a TBS, though

Imagine a gaming journalist finishing an XCOM campaign let alone one at a decent difficulty or without savescum.

It just wouldn't happen.

Becauae FE is a different category

It was. It’s a great, accessible game with a good difficulty curve and fun gameplay

Based Davide.
Do you think he's crying again now?

your original post had no argument

it won based purly on surprise factor is my bet
everyone expected xcom and WH to be good
no one expect a mario rabbids crossover to be good

ARMS outsold Tekken 7 & Injustice 2 and that still doesn't change the fact that it's just a glorified Wii Boxing with puddle deep fightan mechanics.

The same goes to Mario x Rabbids. Of course normies and children would flock to the casualized and more accessible titles with happy fun fun rainbow aesthetics over the punishingly difficult titles with complex gameplay mechanics and grim, bloody violent aesthetics.

Ever wondering why dudebros and chads prefer R6S, CSGO, BF1, and TF2 while soy boys, LGBTXFJEQEIT, gaymurgrrls, babbies and furries prefer Overwatch and Splatoon 2?

Did you even play Mario + Rabids?

Don't think too hard about it, that was just a throwaway award and the judges, who never played strategy games, voted for the more recognizable character.

why are RPG and tactitical games not worthy of a stage announcement anymore? Seriously if that bimbo wasn't there selling mcdonalds and coupons they would have had plenty of time for 2-3 more categories.

>someone at some point unironically visited the nintendo switch subreddit on his mobile phone and decided to post that on Sup Forums to make some kind of point

Do people actually think the judges played every single game they were judging? They probably played a few then assumed the rest were bad, nu gamers.

its a shame, the p5 guys were there

Are people actually trying to argue that an expantion pact should have won the award? That's like PUBG actually winning GOTY without even leaving Early Access, jfc
