James rolfe created the template for internet media reviews.
they are uncreative and dont know how to do their own thing
>spoony
>FF13 review
>METEO00rrorer
What is this point of that bit? It played into nothing.
>AVGN
>Board James
Barely anything about the fucking board games instead its retarded unfunny skits that have nothing to do with the game
>HAHA INJURIES FROM THESE BENIGN GAMES RIGHT GUYS? HAHA
Because they aren't reviews, they are entertainment for kids.
>turn on game review
>shitty theme music fades out
>"Today we're looking at a Playstation One classi--"
>portal opens in bedroom
>reviewer wearing an eyepatch steps through portal
>"i'm you from the future! there's no time, follow me!"
every time
>Every angry joe review ever
His reviews are already long as it is. Why must he and pablo drag out a 3-4 minute skit at the beginning of every review and have shorter, somehow even worse skits scattered throughout.
How should I review video games, Sup Forums?
just b urself
mite b cool
Because they are tired of game reviews and want to branch out into skits/movies, but nobody would watch them, so they just do it anyway and slap 3 minutes of talking about a game in there.
1) Because they think it'll add variety and keep some videos feeling different from the regular analysis videos they do
2) Because certain skits may develop into a running gag or narrative that keeps readers engaged through future videos
3) Because they have a ton of resources lying around (be it stupid dolls or video-editing software) that they want more practice with and want to justify using for their video, killing two birds
4) Because a lot of their viewers are infantile and like seeing the jumpy scream man and his screamy dumb dumb toys
For what it's worth it seems like Johnny has moved on from his prop-centric reviews
Just get to the point
This. The skits and jokes are all to appeal to an audience of children and teenagers who require comedy and dumb memes to even be entertained by the video. Notice how nobody talks about these kind of channel's reviews and just talk about their memes and skits, because nobody actually gives a fuck about their review.
>shitting on Johnny
But why though. He's one of the chillest motherfuckers on the planet. Probably a "lawful neutral" on the scale in comparison to every other Youtuber.
Make meme faces on all of your videos thumbnails
Show gameplay clips to illustrate your points. I didn't click a review to watch a neckbeard sit and talk into a camera. Also, annunciation is super important. It isn't vidya, but I saw this video a while back and can't believe how awful the voice was.
youtu.be
His skits are pretty shit but he stopped doing them at least
I JUST re-watched some of his Mega Man reviews, what the fuck, OP?
I wouldn't say shit but I find it funny how the others from Brainscratch try to stay relevant as if they're seeding from his popularity as if they matter. Do Ryan, Louis and Ted even do anything other than act like bored cunts on their own channel? They don't actually do reviews right? I can't figure any of them for actually having a critical bone in their body unlike Johnny.
Johnny was clearly just trying to copy AVGN in his earlier stuff. He's much better now and has developed into his own. He's one of the better video game reviewers out there.
I actually met him at MAGfest a couple of years ago, he's a pretty cool guy
AVGN never reviewed the game, it was all supposed to be pure entertainment, no one was watching his videos thinking "I wonder if I should play this game" They knew if he made a video on it was shit. That's the problem with today's youtube, they want to force entertainment and it just comes off as annoying
He did say on multiple occasions that his biggest inspiration was AVGN, so no surprise there.
