The problem with DEATH STRANDING is quite simple. The hype surrounding it is 100% because of Kojima and nothing else. If an unknown indie developer released the same trailer it would be bashed as retarded by many gamers. Kojima does it and everybody says how groundbreaking it is simply because he's famous.
The same double standard applies when a rich person does something a poor person would normally be looked down upon for, but because he is rich people react by saying "Wow, how bold!" or "He's so eccentric, truly his own man!".
The problem with the DS trailer is that it's too easy. That kind of writing is just too easy and lazy. You don't even need to smoke good dank to slap together a bunch of wild, nonsensical weird shit together and call it a story.
Creating a story that is believable and grounded in realism is much harder and requires the writer to not be a brainlet.
An unknown indie dev could never produce such a trailer, so that's where you're completely wrong. It would look like complete shit. Even Horizon Zero Dawn on the same engine looks fucking creepy as hell when anyone talks while Death Stranding looks natural.
Kevin Jones
>this abstract esoteric trailer wouldn't be lauded if it wasn't for Kojima, famed director of abstract and esoteric games What did you mean by this, OP? Literally the only answer someone could honestly give you is, "No shit".
Elijah Cox
Okay you just completely missed the entire point. If you weren't a brainlet you would see that the assumption would have to be made that an indie dev could release such a trailer.
Any non-brainlet would have already realized an indie dev obviously could not spend 2m dollars on a super face-body-baby mocapping for a cinematic with a duration of over 7 minutes.
But instead you've proven your brainlet status by not even addressing the fundamental points of the OP, you just focus on meaningless details.
John Miller
This thread is a direct response to those who worship Kojima and call him a visionary.
Lincoln Ross
but he is a visionary.
Adam Ward
Lmao, then why has his works been satirical heaps of garbage?
Chase Gonzalez
not an argument
Carson Howard
he's a fucking hack
Juan Torres
Post yfw you realised Kojima is older than Del Toro
Jackson Scott
>Death Stranding is shaping up to be a mix of Del Toro's love for Lovecraft and Kojima's love for mecha
This game is not going to make any sense
Josiah Jenkins
not enough buzzwords, add in some more brainlets, that'l sure show him
Isaiah Long
Eh, if it was a movie I'd totally watch it.
Eli Sullivan
Sci-Fi lovecraft is a dream it's a shame Del Toro will never ever get to make At the Mountains of Madness
Justin Myers
Holy shit he just showed a fucking cutscene, get over yourselves you whiny cunts
Anthony Jenkins
Del Toro never did a good movie. Not even Blade 2
Hudson Cook
Pan's Labyrinth is a good movie
Christian Rogers
Realism is the brainlet's excuse for having no imagination and often times is far less realistic than the absurd fantasies. It's typically a sign of a child pretending to be an adult by wearing their father's suit and shoes, smoking a chocolate stick pretending it's a cigar, and carrying a briefcase around filled with folder paper and candy.
Jacob Russell
i'll never understand why Kojima gets so much recognition. How much work does he actually do on one of "his games"? I feel like there are millions of dollars and hundreds/thousands of workers making this pretentious shit and he just decideds when to put DIRECTED BY KOJIMA SENSEI on screen and gets all the credit
but really what does kojima do?
Andrew Thompson
would love to see a >unknown indie developer release the same trailer, develop the same engine, recrut the same actors, hire the same musicians, etc... etc...
Fuck off Phil Fish, you already had your fame and you fucked it.
Grayson Nelson
...
Anthony Russell
Fuck off man. Kojima has been killing it since the 80's
Henry Richardson
Why do asians age like that? they look eternally young until one day they wake up and look like they're on the verge of death.
Leo Taylor
Sure it was, Guillermo, sure it was
Zachary Reed

Camden Edwards
the power of soy in everythin they eat, but in return they are very small
Grayson Brown
They are 5% plant.
Andrew Gutierrez
You're wrong.
Sup Forums lost its mind over The Phantom Pain when all we knew was that Moby Dick Studios was making it, the same would have happened here.
Kevin Morales
This is why you are a moron. Buckle up.
You're conclusion is embedded in your argument. You are creating a scenerio which can not be created or tested and presenting it as irrefutable proof of your being correct. Essentially we are meant to judge the quality of an actual trailer by comparing it with a theoretical trailer that you describe with negative adjectives. You mean to create a false equivalency, and this is a logical fallacy you repeat with your rich man vs poor man analogy.
The only variables you are working with are as follows.
1. Hideo Kojima is a famous name in the gaming industry. 2. Your critique of the trailer is that it is nothing special or easy to replicate or out preform.
The conclusion you come to is that the only special aspect is the name of the creator. This indicates to me that you are completely ignorant of visual storytelling and symbolisim. This is not much of a surprise because there is little crossover between film and video games and you are less interested in finding what people do value about the trailer and critiquing that.
Brainlet detected.
Tyler Mitchell
>Creating a story that is believable and grounded in realism is much harder oh, I almost thought you were serious with this shit
Luke Ramirez
>The hype surrounding it is 100% because of Kojima and nothing else true, because no one else would be able to put together something likes this.
Adrian Hall
Yeah i mean, why would anyone react positively to a game made by a consummate developer who made many masterpieces vs a random indie dev. Double standard indeed.
Angel Gray
They marketed the first MGS V trailers as some literally who indie game and people were still intrigued. Kojima's cinematography has a unique style. Whether it has any substance is a talk for another day but it's definitely the kind of thing that gets people's attention, his name or not.
Nolan Reyes
>Kojima does it and everybody says how groundbreaking it is simply because he's famous. No, its because he's a proven game director and I absolutely adore his other work. Why the fuck wouldn't I be interested, I trust in his ability to make something amazing.
Leo Powell
Does the title annoy anyone else?
It should be Death Stranded, or what the name seems to imply it is a nonsensical pun of: Death Standing
Stranding doesn't make any god damn sense, and just sounds cringe worthy.
Dominic Thompson
calm down autty it sounds fine
Julian Wright
I don't think you know what satirical means
Oliver Flores
I could do it with an eighth of Whisky & a few bong hits.
Cooper Long
All I know is, I am not looking forward to playing as a pregnant Norman Reedus. Can we just go back to Solid Snake? Why can't we keep things simple?
Brayden Perez
You are the brainlet here OP, the game literally seems to be too deep for you. I might say that you need at least 100 IQ to understand it, something you seem to lack.
The game is about the second big bang bringing the next wave of life and pretty much deleting the one before that. Humans are probably also going sterile based on the artificial fetus containers and them desperately trying to protect them. The grotesque lifeforms are legit, the baby in throat scene might be some hallucination/symbolism.
It's not that hard to put it together. The trailers try to stay mysterious, the game will also be like that with things gradually unfolding. It will be some post apocalyptic scifi-horror, probably with some action-survival gameplay. And sure, people wouldn't be nearly as excited for it if it was made by a shitty studio and a noname directior, but people know that they can expect at least some decent shit from Kojima.
Robert Thompson
The dude created the footage specifically to drum up speculation, not because he thought it was artsy.
Holy shit you are one dumb cunt
Caleb Perry
the difference between the people who say "I could do that" and the person who did it is that they actually did it but please drink an eighth of whisky and a couple of fat rips and tell us what you come up with
Landon Martinez
>"Mizuho Securities: The PS4 came out top for hardware in November 2017 (USA)"
Bad is this really a bad thing? Kojima has made excellent games for decades so the hype surrounding Death Stranding is justified.
>That kind of writing is just too easy and lazy. Then Silent Hill 1-4 is lazy shitty stories if you consider Death Stranding lazy. Writing with visuals/environments is a lot more difficult. It also respects that the viewer is smart enough to piece it together. I'd say this kind of writing is a lot more difficult. Basically what I'm saying is, you need a high IQ and a big cock to understand Kojima-san works.
Aiden Cruz
>How much work does he actually do on one of "his games"? It's clear that people have memed about EVERYTHING BY HIDEO KOJIMA so much that people don't even read the credits. Why do you think they list him as producer, writer, game designer and director? Because that's what he does for those games. He takes an enormous amount of the management aspects of the game upon himself because he's historically proven himself to have such a strong vision for how he wants the game to be that he scarcely trusts anybody other than himself to get it as he wants it.
Have you ever heard the story about how he taught himself to code during the development of Snatcher so he could undo all the unrequested changes his team was making to the game behind his back? People mock him but the amount of shit he does is evident in plain sight.
Matthew Cruz
You literally need a high IQ to understand the meta-narrative of MGSV
Jonathan Sanders
>it's hype is 100% because of Kojima
Right, it is not like he was the guy that literally created stealth in gaming in the first place and is not responsible for one of the greatest franchises up to date.
Yeah, it is totally because he is rich, nothing else.
Jayden Mitchell
Is this really a bad thing*
Anthony Martinez
Are you retarded or underage?
Kayden Nelson
B-BUT MUH INVISIBLE BEHIND THE SCENES CODERS ARTISTS ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE IN THE DELOPMENT WHO PUT HARD WORK TEARS AND SWEAT KOJIMA JUST PUTS HIS NAME ON OUR HARD WORK AND SAYS DID U RIKE IT ?!?!!! FUK U
Jacob Lopez
>Kojima invented stealth
You drones really are mindless cocksuckers aren't you?
Tyler Brown
He has carried a bunch of the people from KojiPro, we say Kojima but everyone knows the team as a whole is responsible for the game.
Tell me when it started them.
Wyatt Baker
>Brainlets who can’t understand that this is Lovecraft, mainly Dagon, as told by Kojimbo in a futuristic setting.
What’s it like never having read a book past the age of 10?
Dylan Barnes
>What’s it like never having read a book past the age of 10? It feels pretty good. They don't say "ignorance is bliss" for nothing.
Nolan Long
>Creating a story that is believable and grounded in realism How do you know it's not grounded in realism if you haven';t played it? Are all sci-fi writers brainlets now too?
Look I'm pissed that Kojima would rather show trailers rather than gameplay, but you aren't making any sense
Aaron Morris
tell me of a good stealth based video game prior to Metal Gear on MSX (1987)
Henry Reed
it started with castle wolfenstein in 1981 fucking nobody has played it though so you won't get a reliable account of whether it was good
Alexander Cox
RIP Ken-sama ;__;
Carter Brooks
MSX Metal Gear was shit, user.
The great Escape (1986) was good. Anyway, Thief defined modern stealth games.
Cameron Reyes
>You're conclusion Aaaand didn't read, better luck next time champ

>guy pulled flailing into the air by an unseen force as he stabs himself in the chest over and over desperately trying to commit suicide before he suffers some unimaginable worse fate fuck you, I don't give a fuck who came up with that, that shit is tight
Andrew Rodriguez
man this thread prove how this board is literally 99% brainlets and how videogames will never be considered art
Lucas Johnson
>reading Lovecraft >posing like you've got literary tastes
Juan Lewis
Lovecraft wankers are the biggest brainlets
Henry Murphy
The game is probably something where you wonder this big alien continent, made of rocks and has weird formations and structures and shit. Then you can see other players as "ghosts" just like DSouls but you can probably interact with them more. The area is similar to Afghanistan but it's probably way bigger. Also the trailer looks a lot like the indie game, with the bitch, Hellblade. I'm pretty sure Kojimbo's game is not any more involving than that but it's just not linear, it's "open wordo" as Japanese say. All in all it's going to be overrated shit. Just like MGSV was.
Nathan Smith
Because retards will eat up non-gameplay Inception tier cinema in a desire to please culture gatekeepers who are busting their gut laughing at your attempt to please their sensibilities by shitposting at anyone who points out that these trailers are missing the most fundamental aspect that connects this prattle to the video game medium at all?
Angel Powell
t. uphill skating motherfucker.
Grayson Fisher
not every trailer has to have gameplay dumbfuck have you ever followed the release of a video game before in your life
